[Slow startup (all Affinity apps)]

I am using Affinity Photo on Windows, and TBH, and I am still using v1 because of the sluggishness, even at work where I have access to v2.
Early on I was looking to use v2 for its RAW enhancements, but it was so slow I have given up on it and switched entirely to another RAW developer.

For the rest of photo and image processing, I found I am usually starting v1, not because it's better, but because it's faster and still "good enough" most of the time.

But this is really a pity... I'm writing this because after updating to 2.3, that pain point still hasn't been addressed.

On an older intel i5 the slowdown is not as drastic (twice as slow), but turning OpenCL on or off has no effect.

Intel i5 here, Affinity v2 is about half as slow as Affinity v1 (loading, user interface, RAW processing).

Not sure why.

Turning OpenCL hardware acceleration on/off has no noticeable effect.

affinity 2 = 25 sec
affinity 1 = almost instantaneous

Yes, not as drastic, but v2 is about twice slower than v1 when dealing with RAW, not just opening but also HDR merge or tone map.
(older PC with 8 GB RAM here)

Hi,

Currently testing v2 like everyone, and the first thing I noticed is that it was about twice as slow as v1 when processing Raw (under old destructive workflow). This is both when loading (delay for preview when adding the raws in the first dialog) or during processing (align, hdr merge, tone mapping...).

I have tested for instance an HDR merge, starting from five 20 Mpx RAW image, in Affinity v1, it takes just under 1 minute on my i5 CPU, while with Affinity v2, it takes slightly more than 2 minutes.

Also, I don't know if it's related, but the Affinity v2 user interface has a general "sluggish" feel here: there is a minor delay when opening dialogs, clicking buttons or even dragging panels that I do not have when using v1.

I have tried turning on/off OpenCL hardware acceleration, it has no measurable impact.

Anything I could try ?

I'll admit I never tried drag-dropping the eye-dropper in the colors panel, I had tried click and double-clicking it, then dismissed it as a simple decoration, but it's closer to the color picking feature I was after than the color picker tool.

Is there a way to have the color picker provide live feedback on the hovered color ? Somewhere in the status bar or some other area.

Ideally it would report RGB & HTML values without having to click (and lose the current color selection)
This is something that I'm missing in Affinity.

Exact same issue on a new laptop with an 1165G7 + Iris XE and latest Intel drivers.

OpenGL & OpenCL compatibility pack is not installed.

With 1.9.2 the UI becomes unresponsive almost immediately when OpenCL is active, CPU usage shots up to 100% and stays there (GPU usage stays at zero, according to task manager)

Merely activating or dragging tabs in the studio can trigger the issue, even with no image open.
This was not the case with 1.9.1, and turning off OpenCL appears to avoid it.

This is on an i5-8265U, UHD Graphics 620, latest Intel drivers (27.20.100.9316), Windows 10 20H2 19042.867

[Alignment error for text in PDF import]

My purpose was just save ink and paper when printing, ie. mask some tidbits, move stuff around to make room for a copy-paste from another PDF so more could be printed on the same sheet of paper.

It is a PDF I stumbled on a website (not mine) for a DIY advent calendar, and when having a look at editing I discovered Affinity Photo supported editing PDFs, before stumbling on the glitch, and thought it could be worth reporting.

So it is not mission critical or anything, but it was a very cool surprise to discover that Affinity Photo can edit PDF at all.

The more I use Affinity Photo, the more I like it!

The "correct" screenshot was generated on the same machine (I just opened the PDF in Chrome)

It is true that when opening, Affinity complains about three missing fonts (NaiveLineSansRegular, OpenSans-Light & Quicksand)-Regular, but according to Acrobat Reader they are embedded in the PDF (as a subset, and indeed when extracting the fonts from the, only very few characters are available)
