Combining Designer, Photo and Publisher makes as much sense as Lamborghini building a sports car/SUV/minivan/pickup truck combination in an effort to satisfy every single potential use for an automobile all in one vehicle.

MrDoodlezz, could tell me where you got the color palette that shows in your tutorial, which is nicely done by the way.

For those who want to use Affinity Photo as a digital painting application being able to rotate the canvas is a must have feature.

    Mike,

I can launch and use several Topaz plugins through Affinity, which is obviously sold through the App Store. Clearly all of them do not work and that means that they do not "work properly" as you say. But some of them do work. That was the basis of my comment about not understanding the Topaz response that "their software won't work" with Affinity because of App Store restrictions. If it "won't work" then none of them should work. And if some of them work then clearly it is possible to adjust the code so that all of them work. I understand they don't work as they should but is it a coding issue or some arbitrary guideline put in place by the APP Store?

Yes Mike I was pleasantly surprised too. The moderator did say that presently Affinity is not supported so I decided to send them an email letting them know that though there are clearly issues, some of the plugins do work. I verified tonight that I can open, use and return to Affinity with Adjust, Detail, and Simplify in both the MAS and newest beta versions and told them this in the email. I told them for me, Clarity quits before launching in the MAS version but opens and allows changes in the beta. But when I click "OK" to go back to Affinity I get a screen asking for a validation code. Strange because it accepted the code when I first loaded the plugins and tested them. I put in the code and then get a screen saying the validation failed because the code was invalid. I tried this multiple times and the code is valid and correct. I told them there is a growing community of Affinity users anxious to use their plugins. I will let you know if I get a response.

First I will say that I am very happy to see this software and impressed with what I have seen so far...with one exception. The lack of a complete user manual. I don't understand the idea among developers that their job begins and ends with the software and users will fumble and stumble and guess their way to a working knowledge of the program. Video tutorials are great and helpful. So is knowing I have a reference, provided by the developer, that explains what every tool, panel, and menu option is and what it does, as though the person reading it has never worked with this software before. This is especially true for a new software that hasn't been around long enough for authors to fill the void with How To books. From what I can see the information available under Affinity Photo Help is bare bones at best and some of the bones are missing. I spent a lot of time learning Illustrator and enough of Photoshop to do what I need and I am disgusted with Adobe's switch to subscription based software availability. So the discovery of Affinity Design and Photo is very exciting to me. Stumbling through video's and searching YouTube and Google for additional information to understand how to use your products...that is not so exciting.

I attended a webinar for one of the Topaz plugins the other day and some one asked If Topaz planned on making their plugins work with Affinity Photo. The moderators response was " We are considering it."

bodobe...I think you underestimate the interest there would be in a tutorial on the kind of work you have done here.  It is elegantly simple and beautifully complex at the same time. I have never done a tutorial and can only imagine the amount of time it would take, but should you be so inclined I would be very interested in how you approached this and carried it out in Affinity Design. Either way thanks for showing what can be done.

acapstick- Thank you for your reply and update on the additional documentation you have planned. It sounds great. My reference to missing items in the Help came mostly out of frustration at not being able to search for a specific topic. Everything I search for resulted in no response. I mistakenly assumed this meant the topic wasn't covered. I learned later this was something that was being fixed.

After reading many of the posts and responses I am beginning to better understand the complexity of nurturing a fledgling software like Designer and Photo and the daunting task of maintaining reference material for programs that are changing rapidly. Thanks to the development team for their continuing efforts and for trying very hard to keep users informed.
