  1. Reply from Topaz Labs....

    Jim,

Thank you for contacting Topaz Labs with your feedback on the webinar and Affinity Photo support.

We are indeed considering supporting Affinity Photo, but we are currently busy with other projects that are receiving a higher priority from our developers. If we decide that demand is strong enough for Affinity Photo support, then we will approach compatibility properly, and fix whatever bugs might exist to make sure our software is represented well. However, at the present time, it is not on our to-do list.

Each request like this one pushes us closer to actually making the updates!

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns, and I will be happy to assist!

  2. This is my third attempt to get some kind of response to the two issues I've outlined when using Affinity Designer with a Wacom Intuos 5 Touch. First, I get no pressure sensitivity for brush size using the vector brushes. And second I can't use the scroll bar to select the brushes using the pen. When the program first opens the scroll bar is present. Once I select a brush it goes away and only switching to a mouse will bring it back. If this is not the behavior others are seeing could someone suggest what I am doing wrong. The brushes are set to "pressure" but they do not change size. Pressure sensitivity works when using brushes in the pixel persona.

Could one of the developers please address this.

  3. Wow! That that is really news. I am very surprised. Pleased, but surprised.

Thank you for sharing what you heard.

Yes Mike I was pleasantly surprised too. The moderator did say that presently Affinity is not supported so I decided to send them an email letting them know that though there are clearly issues, some of the plugins do work. I verified tonight that I can open, use and return to Affinity with Adjust, Detail, and Simplify in both the MAS and newest beta versions and told them this in the email. I told them for me, Clarity quits before launching in the MAS version but opens and allows changes in the beta. But when I click "OK" to go back to Affinity I get a screen asking for a validation code. Strange because it accepted the code when I first loaded the plugins and tested them. I put in the code and then get a screen saying the validation failed because the code was invalid. I tried this multiple times and the code is valid and correct. I told them there is a growing community of Affinity users anxious to use their plugins. I will let you know if I get a response.

  4. I posted the following on 25 July but got no response...it still does not work for me in the latest beta...

I am also not getting any pressure sensitivity when using the vector brush tool. Pressure works fine when using the brushes in the Pixel Persona but not in Draw Persona. Wacom Intuos 5 Touch.

Also I can't scroll thru the brushes the using my pen.  When you first open the brush panel the scroll bar is there and I can use the pen to scroll. Once the scroll bar disappears, using the pen will not bring it back. I have to put the pen aside and scroll with the mouse to get to a brush down the list.

For what it is worth using either of the "velocity" settings to simulate pressure when using a mouse does not produce any variation in line width in Draw Persona while in Pixel Persona "velocity" does produce variations in line width when using a mouse.

  5. Below is a response from Serif Developer Dave Harris in regard to the ability to see a font missing from your computer as it should appear when opening a PSD file...

"I'm afraid we don't attempt to support embedded fonts at the moment, so you will need to have the fonts installed."

This seems like a significant problem to me. There is simply no way I can have every font installed on my system I may need to cover every file I may receive from clients in the future. At least I knew Could open a PDF in Photoshop and see what the layout is suppose to look like. See the font as it should be. I knew I could to open that PDF in Illustrator a choose to have it open with the fonts outlined so the customers layout remained unchanged by a substituted font.

Can Affinity Designer covert fonts to curves when opening a file with missing fonts?

Will Affinity Photo be able to display files with missing fonts accurately at some point in the future?

In a perfect world all clients would provide files with fonts outlined or would have access to the fonts that were used. Most of the time they don't. In a perfect world the missing font needed to fix a $30 job wouldn't cost $199.

If I need to have every font I may ever have to deal with installed on my computer in order to have files display with out substituting fonts, then Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer just got waaaay more expensive than any Adobe software.

  6. I am probably not qualified to frame this question in the best way but hope that others more experienced in vector design generally and Affinity Design specifically might comment on wether it would be useful for Affinity Designer to support plugins such as those offered by Astute Graphics. Or it may be more accurate to say wether it would be useful for Astute Graphics to support plugins for Affinity Designer. I am very new to Designer and not familiar enough with it's features but I get the feeling that at least some of the functionality of these kinds of plugins is already built in or planned for Designer, such as the corner tool for example. I asked Astute Graphics if their plugins might one day work with Affinity Designer. Here is their

    response...

    Hi James,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

I’m afraid our plug-ins are only compatible with Adobe Illustrator and we have no plans to develop plug-ins for Affinity Designer. However you are not the first person to ask this question.

We would be very interested to know your experience with Affinity Designer though and why you think our plug-ins may benefit?

    Best wishes,

    Georgie

  7. After doing some checking I realized that I had installed the stand alone version of Topaz Impressions. I was able to locate the plugin for Impressions and add that to the search window in Affinity Photo beta and Impressions launched and seems to work with no problem. As Mike was saying it's strange that some of them work and some of them don't. Then again I know nothing about the inner workings of these things so it may not be strange at all.

  8. It has been said several times that Topaz plugins work with Affinity Photo. I have followed the Help instructions multiple times and get the following results...I add the following to the "Plugin search folders" window.../Applications/PhotoshopCS6/plugins/TopazAdjust5/Topaz_adjust5.plugin. Instead what shows up in that window is this.../Library/Application support/TopazLabs/Adjust5/plugins/Topaz_adjust5.plugin. I add the "/" to the Plugin search folder window in the manor described by the help files and then close the preferences window and restart Affinity Photo. I open an image and then go to the filters menu/plugins and there is nothing there.

Does anyone know what if anything I am doing wrong?

  9. I am curious as to why having the On1 plugins work within Affinity Photo is necessary. I thought their apps worked independently of other software and you could integrate if you wanted to. Is it more a matter of convenience? I admit to having little familiarity with plugins and rarely am able to achieve the results with them I see others getting, so excuse my ignorance if this is a dumb question.

  10. Is it possible to combine layer effects and layer adjustments and save that combination as a style? I apply layer effects to text ad save that as a style without problem. But if I add, say a curves adjustment and try to save that as a style it doesn't work. I get just the word "user" in the styles panel without the "cog" thumbnail. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not. It seems ashame to spend time tweaking an adjustment and not be able to save it along with the other attributes as a style for use in the future when a similar effect is needed.
