  1. My comments/questions were not meant to be a criticism of your feature request. I simply don't understand your explanations. If it is possible to make a tool like you describe it would truly be amazing.
  2. This functionality with the pencil would be great. It is not available in CS6 which is the version of Illustrator I have since Adobe priced me out of their current software with their ridiculous rental requirement. Though I believe Astute Graphics has this in one of their plugins.
  3. I find this very confusing. What difference does it make what shape the pixels take in the area you want to remove, or more accurately, fill in after removal? All of the information used to fill in those now missing pixels comes from the areas surrounding them. I don't understand how having a big library of all the things you might one day want to remove from an image has any impact on how well the inpainting tool works to fill in that shape with information from other parts of the image. You can make a precise selection of the offending object and still not get a completely satisfactory result because of the complexity of the surrounding pixels.
  4. JevoUK, Files created in Illustrator can be saved with an embedded pdf in the AI file. It is that embedded PDF that Designer imports, not the native AI file. If there is no embedded PDF as sometimes happens with older versions of Illustrator, or if someone has saved the AI file and deselected the option to save with PDF, then Designer cannot open those AI files.
  5. nickhughsart...While I completely sympathize with your wish to make the transition from Illustrator and to do it as painlessly as possible, you have to bare in mind that Illustrator has a monumental head start in development over Affinity Designer. The reason you only recently discovered Designer is because it is a very new program. It is amazingly advanced for it's age but is still in it's infancy. You can take a look at the road map for things that are currently being worked on and as these things are completed more requested features and improvements will be added to that list. This is a work in progress and the eye dropper is one area that I hope will see some improvement and redesign. It's there. It just doesn't work like what you are use to. At present Designer doesn't have the functionality of Illustrators pencil tool that you describe. It's a great feature and at some point may find it's way into Designer. I'm hoping for some compatibility with Astute Graphics plugins sometime in the future as well.
  6. aitte, thanks for the link to the flux. Very cool software.
  7. I really think implementing so many variations for the inpainting tool would be very complex. Unless I am completing misunderstanding it is the area of the photo surrounding the object to be removed that is important, not the object itself. Removing a post in a thicket of leaves is entirely different than removing one against a grassy field. There are other tools designed to be used in conjunction with inpainting to clean up difficult, complex areas. And sometimes you just have to use a paint brush and do it manually.
  8. barninga, I didn't mean to imply a deficiency in the inpainting tool. Like you I have been amazed at what is possible considering the task being performed. I just meant that there are certain kinds of things that can't be replaced with just that tool. And a lot has to do with the surrounding area as well as the portion being replaced. When you see what it can do in one circumstance it's easy to expect that level of "magic" all the time and that is probably not a realistic expectation.
  9. One of the devs can probably respond to this better than I but if you are using the inpainting brush on something like buildings I think you are expecting something from the tool it is not capable of doing. I don't think the tool is designed to replicate something with complex straight lines and angles.
  10. evontic3, If you have time would you mind posting what you did to correct the problem?
  11. I have not worked with panoramas but is it not possible to open a panorama you have already stitched in pixel persona and use the inpainting brush there as you would any other image?
  12. I think the tutorial on panoramas covers a couple ways to handle those transparent areas you describe. It's in section 8 of the tutorials for Affinity Photo.
  13. Dave, I appreciate the difficulty you face dealing with the complexities and deficiencies of the PSD format and applaud what you have achieved. But part of GulfMediaMan's inquiry was "How can I create new text on a curve?". Because AP can't do text on a curve he must use Designer. This is an issue you can deal with and would at least give photographers using Affinity Photo the ability to repair text that doesn't import from Photoshop correctly. Including text on a curve in Affinity Photo just seems like a no-brainer to me especially in light of the PSD format issue you describe.
  14. Sorry MBd but I couldn't disagree more. It was stated by one of the devs in a thread sometime ago in relation to this question, that keeping text on a curve out of Affinity Photo was a conscious decision in order keep the two applications separate. A decision that just doesn't make sense to me. If you're not going to have text on a curve in AP then why have text at all? This decision forces a photographer who has no need for a vector graphics application to purchase one so he can have more latitude when adding text to photos for what ever reason he may need. Leaving text on a curve out of AP seems a very arbitrary decision and one I don't understand. You are absolutely correct in saying the ability edit a file in each app is a great bonus but isn't it an equally great bonus that AD has pixel based tools to paint vector art so you can do those kinds of additions without going into Photo? Including that kind functionality in AD is a great idea that makes perfect sense. How does it make sense that you can paint with pixels in a vector program but you can't put text on a curve in a photo editing program? As I have said before I hope text on a curve for AP is something that will be reconsidered for a future update. Clearly photographers need this addition to the text functionality.
  15. 300 dpi is pretty standard for printed work. 1200 dpi I think is unnecessary.
  16. I am not able to find your other post about "control over printing". Perhaps if you post the link to it or re-post it someone can give you an answer. I did finally see your other post but I am not able to answer your question. Hopefully someone else can.
  17. Loong Chiao, keep in mind this is a holiday season in many parts of the world and a response may not be a quick as usual... Also as LoBu said there are several threads about plugins already in the forum so search for those. The short answer is some plugins work right now and some don't. If you are having trouble getting them to show up at all you probably do not have the path set correctly in the preferences panel. I believe this is covered in the help files with Affinity Photo.
  18. I am guessing here but I would be surprised if the .CDR file type is not owned exclusively by Corel or who ever it is that makes Corel. Affinity Designer cannot open native .ai files that do not have a pdf component and since .cdr files do not contain a .pdf file, Designer cannot open them either. Which is likely the reason "new vector graphic programs "ignore"" .cdr files.
  19. Alan9940... I have Topaz B&W Effects 2.0 and it seems to work for me with out crashing. I have not used it much but I can call it from AP, apply an effect and return to AP without issue.
  20. I suppose that is something open for debate. I do it both ways and sometimes, I agree, visually centered looks better than mathematically centered. But to me that is not really the issue. Graphic design software should be capable of centering text vertically and horizontally wether the designer chooses to use it or not.
  21. I really hope it is more than "likely" the ability to align text vertically and horizontally will be added to Designer. It's a graphic design software. Full control over text alignment is essential to graphic design. Please do not let this be one of the "features" that distinguish Publisher from Designer.
