  1. This is a must have as far as my work goes. I've been doing hacks to get around it - but at a cost of many hours, literally. I vote +1
  2. In addition, my strong need is that the fill is proportionally distorted as the object shape is manipulated. Wishlist for my ongoing project commitments.
  3. I didn't find that this worked. Editing in Photo then either copy/pasting to Designer or File>Edit in Designer - gave no change.
  4. I too was excited when I saw warp - especially when the HELP function showed the pattern/fill warped. (See below.) Sadly these examples are misleading as the fill is never warped - this distorting of the fill is what I was waiting for. I'm hoping and praying it will be in an update to 2.0 as a major project very much needs this.
  5. In hind sight I should have, but am wishing/ 'Tried this before and it's cumbersome - for me. Also - Unfortunately, this won't work for my work or customers. I need a real object pattern fill - especially one that I can distort with mesh/shaping. I'm hoping that with the new redesign release with the gee whizz items (Quite good ones, mind you!) that they can catch up with the basics that appear to be driving away some customers.
  6. There is distortion of vector objects that may meet my needs. It's clear that Affinity has been focusing energy on the V2 - which overall is great. I'm hopeful now that this new platform really will allow some of these asks to be more readily included. Thanks Affinity - a new V2 suite owner.
  7. Agreed - It's the silence (neglect?) that is frustrating. A reply such as "we hear you. We are currently focusing on other key improvements and priorities and will give you an update later. This feature IS on our planning list." That said - I love the product and do recommend it for most users. I've also said in surveys before - I'd be willing to pay more for the base product - It's more than worth it. The silence spurns roumours and loss of interest, unfortunately.
  8. I should point out that despite my frustration with this missing feature, I still come back to and recommend this product. I expect if upgraded to new version that, it's work a significant price increase for all the professionally designed features.
  9. I echo the comments. VS has some great and powerful features, but the learning curve - in absence of tutorials and good documentation - make it almost insurmountable to me. Recent VS Forum advice was to learn by searching the Forum... but that should be the last resort - not first. I love both but for different reasons. I like the idea of merging software/features.
  10. Trialed Adobe Illustrator - what a wast of time. Nowhere met the minimum of my needs. (Just my needs - I'm sure others benefit from the basics.) Staying with Affinity Designer. Hoping they will advance in next release. Message to Affinity - I would be willing to pay 2-3 times more for the features you have and advanced features like bitmap/vector fill, especially if I can distort the fill with the image. Looking froward to the new Affinity Designer!!!!
  11. Frustrated. Not sure if or when Affinity will include this basic feature. Just now trying Illustrator to see if it meets my immediate needs - for which I can't wait for Affinity any longer. Product due in 2 months!!! (Tried Inkscape and VectorStyler - not quite good enough.)
  12. Sorry - I know about and have tried this workaround. But with hundreds of figures to do (not counting rework from Customer feedback) - this is downright impractical. Odd that this basic feature has been requested for years and although Affinity Photo has such a feature, it remains unsolved for Designer. So, I will be using Serif Draw until I find a different product that fulfills my Production needs.
  13. I ended up with a picture/image with no fill. FINALLY - I've decided to revert to my old copy of SERIF DrawPlus 8. It does everything I want in vector fill. (Importing image into Designer does not work. You just get an image.) So for now, working on my book wholly outside of Designer and waiting for the someday when basic Vector fill function is included in Designer.
  14. I've had excellent luck with VexTractor. 've even loaded complex land use/property maps from web page screen shots and gotten excellent vector files with little noise. These were readily opened with Affinity Designer and edited there.
  15. Late response but importing an Inkscape object with pattern fill - whether saved as Inscape .SVG and as Plain .SVG - all appear without the bitmap fill. Copy paste - likewise.
  16. Argh. This is where I was typing and it would not take. I reopened Designer and now it works. I had something wrong, but works now. Thanks. Thanks, D
  17. Just tried. For some reason, it won't import from Inscape as a filled svg object. Still trying...
  18. Thanks - Fair point. I tried creating in Inkscape and then copying/pasting... wrong approach. I'll try the save as SVG. But I'll still need to do this for each version of my diagram that has a different shape and fill.
  19. I'm designing a graphic that needs to be quite precise - to .1 mm. So I need a 3.3 x 3.3 custom grid with snapping. So document is set up with mm. In GRID AND AXIS MANAGER, in advanced, uniform - it will not allow me to type in any entry and the dropdown slider only goes in specific increments. For example, I can do 3.19 mm and 2,8m but nothing in between. I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions? What am I doing wrong? Many Thanks
  20. I again sit frustrated needing a pattern fill and have no easy way to perform it. I have to create it in Inkscape, do a screen capture and then paste the needed work into my diagrams - which has to be done for each version of my diagrams. Grrrr. Can Affinity say yes or no that this feature is even being considered for a fix!?!?
  21. Can Affinity tell us if they really are working on a vector fill or not? A post in 2014 suggests that it was in the mix. (See below.) That's 7 years ago. Is it any closer, or should we plan to count on other resources/tools? > On 10/9/2014 at 1:33 PM, TonyB said: > We will add a vector fill tool but we want to do it right so it might take a while.
  22. Although great value for the money, I find more and more very annoying 'features' or lack thereof. This rasterizing does not work to meet my needs. I need to stitch many images together then to trace fro vector layer.
  23. I VERY STRONGLY SUPPORT ADDING THIS AS A DIRECT FEATURE - not a complicated workaround. I need custom vector fills and swatches for draweings/images MULTIPLE TIMES EVERY DAY and having to create fill assets, create object containers and subordinate the fill asset to the container layer is absolutely not practical. The complicated work-around above is not practical for every day, repeat needs. I have hundreds of drawings to apply this to. As well, the images copied do not accurately reflect the fill as needed. PLEASE, PLEASE fix / add this. I am currently looking for another app that has this ability. (other than going backto Serif Draw 8 legacy which does this pretty well.)
  24. G'Day, Excellent program BTW. I've hit a bump in trying to replicate creating custom SHAPE Presets in Affinity Designer (v1.8.5) in Windows 10. I've created a shape using the shape toolbar tool and modified the shape - e.g., rounding corners. After creating a new Preset Category, I go back to the shape settings COG, and click on the upper right menu. While the Manage Category "Manage Presets" option is still available, the "Create Presets" is not available (i.e., is greyed out). I've made sure the shape is still selected. I've followed along with the Affinity Designer video tutorial - but no luck. Am I missing something? Thanks for any help. Dennis
