HaroldBark reacted to harrym in [AP] 1.5.1.52 Export Inconsistency?
I've put this on the bugs forum as I suspect an issue with the original .affinity file if it's just a settings issue, mods please move to questions forum!

I have this weird thing happening with just one file

Original project file is set to inches, 300 dpi

    File - Export as jpg
Open new jpg back into AP
Document - Resize Document, the dialogue says 72dpi (wrong)

    Export Persona
Export entire file (same settings as the previous export)
    Open new jpg back into
Document - Resize Document, the dialogue says 300dpi (correct)

What's wrong? there is an inconsistency between the two exports

Another thing about the Export dialogue which is rather more an annoyance than a bug I think. I always work in inches so I think the Export dialogue should report the size in inches not default pixels.

Chatsworth House, Derbyshire, England. Two enormous carved lions, one sleeping, and one that looks as if you've just woken him up. I used Mesh Warp in AF to make all the different mouth shapes for speech and blinking eyes. The speech was poked and prodded in Audacity and GoldWave (it's a little creaky and a little sibilant -- but hey, who know what lion speech really sounds like?) I used Anime Studio (horrible software, but all I've got) to sync the mouth to the speech.

HaroldBark reacted to netsurfer912 in Linux. Seriously now.
Guys. Linux is the future. You may not see it at the moment, but you are trusting Apple way too much. What if your golden ecosystem breaks down?

The thing is that I know lots of people who would be willing to purchase this software for even more than the original price if it was available for Linux. The Linux community is not cheap. If there is a quality product that is worth it, we're gonna buy it. And I'm pretty convinced Affinity is. When I read about it, I was super excited because as a young alternative to Illustrator, Sketch and Vectormator, there would be a chance of Affinity being more modern and also supporting other Unices than only Mac OS. See, the world of Unix is so unbelievably huge, yet you are concentrating on such a tiny subset of it. The programming effort is tiny, many Unix programs are portable between systems without any modifications. Since Mac OS is practically a BSD-Rip-off, the programming effort of porting Affinity to Linux is tinytinytiny And you could be one of the first innovative companies offering a consumer-application for Linux, which would probably not only make huge waves in the Linux community itself, but also the whole industry, which will also gain you lots and lots of customers.

Unless you were dumb enough to use native Apple-APIs of course. Then you're f****d.

In that case I would advise switching as soon as possible, as painful as it might be. It will save you lots and lots of problems and lots of future pain. I can only advise you to look into Qt, which is by the way also cross-platform-compatible. Yes, I'm even talking about Windows.

    Hi,

I'm planning to buy Panasonic DMC-FZ2000 (DMC-FZ2500 in the US) but I can't see it on the supported cameras list.
Is there any ETA on when Affinity Photo will add RAW support for it? How long it may take?

    Thank you and kind regards,

HaroldBark reacted to TurboCooler in Designer Noob Question -- how to draw a straight line?
I want to draw a series of straight lines.

In other drawing programs you could often hold a key while using a pencil or pen tool and it would always give you a straight line.

    Is there a similar concept?

HaroldBark reacted to Jhsarts in Illustrator user new to Affinity designer, needs help with pen tool
    Hello everyone

I recently got Affinity designer after years of Illustrator. I love the program but am still getting the hang of it.

Can anyone tell me how I can get the curves I want whilst using the pen tool?
Just like on Illustrator, I click once with the pen to create a point. I click again to create the next point. The line path from point A to point B has a really wonky curve and is not at all what I want. This mainly happens when I'm drawing clouds or trees.
I can't seem to get the perfect line and curves that I want without using the node tool to edit my lines or just using smart mode. Dragging the mouse doesn't help me to get the curves or shape I want either.

Is this just the way Affinity works or is there some setting that I am unaware of?

i'd really appreciate any advise here!

    Thanks so much :)

HaroldBark reacted to 3drealism in Colour palette needs to change to B & W when editing masks
I don't know if this is a bug or a feature. Colour palette needs to automatically change to black & white when editing masks  - and change back to your previous colour palette when working on the pixel layer. This feature is very important when you are alternating between masks and pixel layers. Having to alter the palette every time you change from a pixel layer to a mask layer and back again can become very time consuming.

I'm not sure if this is a known bug or perhaps it is something odd that happened on my end? I was working on a file, an imported Illustrator file, and I made some changes in Designer Beta and when I tried to save the file I couldn't. When I tried to export, I couldn't. One of the messages asked me to "report it to Serif" and so I thought I would pass it along. Thanks for all the hard work, I'm looking forward to the 1.6!

HaroldBark reacted to paolo.limoncelli in DAUB LiquidInk Tools and Macros
    Hi Folks!

Here I am with a freebie.
This little project starts from the need to have a tool that mimics ink tension and viscosity.
In order to do this, and make it easy to use in AffinityPhoto I needed macros, and finally these are there!
You need AP 1.5.x in order to make it work!

    Download the package here

    How this combo works

The technique relies on Adjustment Curves and some special tools designed to keep anything non destructive.
Tools are simple stupid brushes that together with custom ramps deliver a viscosity effect on crossing lines, resulting in a credible feathering effect.
This happens only if used together with the layer stack generated by included macros.

To use them import both Macros (from Library Studio) and Tools available in the package, create a new document and click one of the effects (Ink and Wet Ink) form the Library Studio.
AP will create a layer stack composed of the adjustment, a fill layer (needed to make this adjustment work) and a pixel layer which is where you want to paint.

These tools are designed to work best for black inking.
If you want you can play with other colours too, just be aware of the clipped results you will obtain.
You can always re-colour your layer with further adjustments.

    Hope you'll enjoy!

I'm making a set of icons in SVG format, and have them all on their own artboard in 1 document.
Exporting an artboard to SVG (with no border or fill) includes a <rect> tag named like the artboard. I'd expect the artboard to just set the width/height & viewbox properties of the export, not to have its own rect path.
Maybe this could be just a checkbox in the export options?

    Hello everyone,

This is the third in a series of customer beta builds intended to improve the stability of the new 1.5.1 App Store version of Affinity Photo. We'll be doing these for a few weeks, then we will update the App Store version. This beta will sit alongside the App Store version and not interfere with it - although your settings will not be shared between the two versions.

As this is a stability beta, it is suitable for production work and should be used in preference to the App Store version if you need any of the fixes it contains.

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to do this photoshop process in Affinity?
    Thanks.

1.) Duplicate your background layer in Photoshop
2.) With the new layer selected, click Filter>Noise>Median and, when prompted by the dialogue box, select a radius somewhere in the 3 to 5 range.
3.) Set the blending mode of the duplicated layer to Pin Light.

Is it possible to BEG you to put how the transparent background is handled BACK the way it was?  We (at the tv station) save things with an alpha channel all the time, and the nebulous place the "switch" is placed to turn off the background is a great pain for the others in the building that are working on it.  (i get multiple complaints daily now).

IF there has to be a switch, could it not be placed in the export/png dialog box... please?!?!

Actually, we can open psd files, but we have to export, then select psd etc to save files.

What would be nice is a preference option so that save as psd is default (File/Save, Ctrl+S, Ctrl+Shift+S etc)

Is it something we can hope for ?
