That's because PDF tries to honour gradients without being rasterised, whereas jpeg is a raster format.
Thanks for your explanation, for me still stranger, as PDF common use in offset printing, if PDF change the color I could not imagine to many complain will be received the designer. I have attached the afpub file with change the color and still implement the gradient @same spot with Color Cast was Occurred, and now the color didn't missed it.

I'm planning on buying this desktop for affinity photo editing. Is the specs of this desktop good enough to operate Affinity Photo and is it fast enough?
Dell Optiplex 9020 Desktop
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit
CPU: 64 bit
Intel Core i5 4570 3.2GHz 64bit CPU
4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB SATA HDD
My current laptop right now works perfectly with affinity photo with no problems. The specs of my current netbook are:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4300 CPU @ 1.90Ghz 2.49Ghz
8GB
Just to revise for the RAM, it its better for at least 16 Gb

Check the fonts
If in Your Adove ID font is different, so it can not open file with the sameYes correct, the font original from Adobe ID cannot use to another program, therefore when open it by Affinity Publisher will be subtitute.

I have opened an IDML file, from an Adobe InDesign CS5 original, in Affinity Publisher but some of the pdf files within the job are opening with substitute fonts. Is there any way I can overcome this problem?
If the IDML file was created from the different computer you have a Affinity Publisher you must to install the same font which a IDML file created, otherwise Affinity Publisher will subtitute the font when open it in your computer unless you install the same font.

If you wish the gradient color will tranform from Top to Bottom, you can do it another way:
1. Select the object you wish to gradient,
2. then select Gradient Tool, put the node from the top of object to bottom of object, now you have a gradient color from top to the bottom as you wish.

Now being beta testing, I think soon will be release.
If you wish you can participate in Beta Tester for version 1.9, you can download via this forum.
However this beta version not recommended for common use as just for testing purpose, please read on Beta Topic.

@HANDJOJO if that happens it will be a really neat, if not essential, feature. Thanks for letting me know. Do you know when 1.9 is scheduled for release? I agree it would be more valuable in Designer. Thanks.

@h_dthanks. @Callum thanks too. I tried it again and it’s working now. The slice export wasn’t the right size yesterday. Weird but I’m so relieved it works. Phew that saves me a ton of work.
@h_d yes, I’m printing playing cards and they want png or jpg format. I think bigger manufacturers want pdf as you suggest. By the way, is there a way to set the color of the bleed area? Mine comes out white which isn’t what I want.
Hello Marlin,
The Bleed Color cannot customize with the existing version (ver 1.8.5), however with upcoming version (says 1.9) if I’m not wrong the bleed & margin color can customized in upcoming version of the Publisher, I hope also in the Designer.

I'm giving affinity a try, so i downloaded affinity photo first and scanned it due to my habit of being on the safe side. When i scanned the software, it gave a red flag. Now normally i know there are false positives, but this one has the name of a remote administration Trojan, which is too specific. I want to know if it's just a false positive due to similarities in some code, packaging method or was the software compromised due to some developer's infected PC (It happened to OSU Official Game before). I really want to give affinity a try as i want to ditch adobe, but i need a confirmation before i proceed to install it.
Scan Results:
Downloaded from official serif site, Which gave me a signed file by Serif (Europe) Ltd
https://store.serif.com/en-us/account/downloads/
Meanwhile someone please report it to the virus scanning company if it is indeed a false positive and not a backdoor.
Thanks, Sorry if i sound rude.
Probably false positive, I have a virus protection in my computer and didn't gave a warning so far, I downloaded a Affinity trial direct from Serif website. Please check with another AV if you wish.

Dear All,
Today I got a phenomenon a Color Cast when export a document created by Affinity Publisher (1.8.5) to PDF for both color profile CMYK & RGB (both were set to PDF Print Ready) as per sample attached, however when export to JPG no color cast.
Please advise how to solve this cast accordingly.
Thanks & B/regards,

What I mean for concern to no.2, is the default setting for the default Unit for a document for i.e every I create a documents the Unit in Centimeter, I just sett the unit in Centimeter in Preference as a default, so I don't need every time create a document I should setting a unit on every create the document, this setting to practice it. As per sample attached.

Did you know you can change the size of the dot handle? It is "Tool Handle Size" in the Tools section of the preferences. It is hard to balance the tool handle size to be big enough to grab easily while small enough to not get in the way when you want to grab something else, but it is nice that Serif has given us the choice about where that balance is for each individual.
Yes let us see...for the coming update.

I find them too thick also for the text frame, difficult to select the word in the left corner of the top text frame and intefered with the dot handle, and look like a overlape text frame due too thick line.

As per Alfred suggestion you wish to ask the person who made a file to convert in PDF, so you can edit it latter by you.

Use the Baseline setting on the context toolbar to move the text above and below the curve, use the red and green handles to position text and also the reverse text path control again on the context toolbar to correct upside down text etc
EDIT: Screen recording added
Thanks Paul for your advise, very usefull screen recording. 👍

You’re welcome, @HANDJOJO.
As @Joachim_L indicated, this is determined by the baseline value. That’s why I included the words ‘Negative baseline’ in the filename: when you open the file, you’ll find that the bottom line of text has a small positive baseline value (to move it up slightly so that there’s a gap between the circle and the text) but the top line of text has a large negative value to bring it inside the circle.
Thanks for your clear explanation, for above text set to negatife baseline so the text move to inside the circle, oposite for the bellow text set to positive baselline. 👍

Type the first line, press the Enter key on your keyboard and then type the second line. This will give you two pieces of text which can be adjusted independently.
I’ve attached a *.afdesign file for you to play with.
Text-on-a-circle_Negative-baseline.afdesign 17.25 kB · 0 downloads
Thanks Alfred for yor sample, by the way how put the text both inside the circle, even I have hit the enter both texts cannot in the same line (opposite, out & inside a circle) as per attached.

Color Cast Export to PDF in Affinity Publisher 1.8.5
in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Posted
Dear All/Gabe,
Here I send again a sample two sample of PDF:
1. Export as a PDF File
2. Direct Print as a PDF File
I send a long with the Screenshot of each setting during export and direct print
the document preset :
* Color Format: CMYK/8
* Color Profile: U.S Web Coated (SWOP)V2
I also attached the *afpub file for investigation.
As see the Direct Print as a PDF the color more bright (similar to RGB Color) compare to Export as PDF (PDF/X-4), both color profile same as the document color format: CMYK/8.
Please help & Advise.
Look forward to receiving the reply.
