  1. Mac mini M1

    macOS Ventura 13.5.2

    Affinity Designer and Photo 2.2.0

While dragging the mouse in either colour wheel on the guides panel, the guides and borders become invisible. After chosing a colour and releasing the left mouse button, the guides and borders reappear with the changed colour(s).

In Affinity Publisher 2.2.0, the colour change is visible while dragging the colour wheel.

The exported PDF is exactly 10cm by 10cm in size.

While I intuitively prefer to use SVG files for import into Trotec JobControl, a test today showed that PDF files get messed up in that software: All text labels – exported from AD as font-independent curves – were virtually misplaced all over the graphic (and beyond).

Let's hope that it also works in Trotec JobControl.

It works perfectly. Just make sure that

    • you make a selection of your design and note the width and height
    • you export only the selection to SVG
    • you change the width and height values from "100%" to their absolute values in the SVG file before you import it in Trotec JobControl

I use red (RGB 255,0,0) lines with width 0.2pt to cut, e.g., wood sheets.

The best option is to edit the file in a text editor after export.

Yep, I'm glad I checked my exported SVG in Inkscape (both on Linux and on Mac) and noticed the scaling factor of about 1.4 to 1.6 (I'm using different resolutions on the same WQHD monitor). After replacing width=100% with width=100mm (and height as well), my SVG looks fine in Inkscape. Let's hope that it also works in Trotec JobControl.

Too bad that SVG export from AD is broken. The exported PDF is exactly 10cm by 10cm in size.

    • Affinity V1 still doesn't open projects the usual way, only with "File/Open..."

Minor correction: I still wasn't able to configure this particular Mac Mini with macOS 12.6.5 Monterey so that Affinity V1 opens project files in the "Downloads" directory either from the Dock or from the Finder by double-clicking or via "Open with...".

However, there seems to be some problem in the communication between Affinity and macOS: In the context menue of the AD icon in Dock all recently opened projects are (correctly) listed. Inside AD, only projects outside of "Downloads" (and maybe other system-specific directories) are listed in the "Recently opened..." list. Also, projects outside of "Downloads" can be opened in AD V1 by double-click.

Also AD V2.0.4 adds only those projects in the "Recently opened..." panel that reside outside of "Downloads".

At home I have Affinity 2.0.4 and 2.1beta installed

Uninstalling all nine apps and deleting ''~/Library/Application Support/Affinity*'' and re-installing Affinity 1.10.6 and 2.0.4 changed things only slightly:

    • Affinity V1 still doesn't open projects the usual way, only with "File/Open..."
    • Affinity V2 adds opened projects to the "Recent..." panel again.

Question: What else must I delete to purge Affinity completely? After the re-installation

    • the "Light" theme was on, icon size was large, etc.
    • all "Assets" were gone, but APub templates still existed
    • V1 did not ask for License credentials (yet)

so I did not restart afresh.

I use a complement of apps to do what I want

very slowly adding new features, such as cross reference in publisher

I use Rawtherapee for my photography needs (without DAM). And TeX simply is the non-plus-ultra for technical texts (including long-time archival format in plain text), although I would be hard pressed to suggest TeX for desktop (i.e., console) publishing. 🤓
