    Hi Reeno,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
There's quite a few users reporting this but it doesn't crash in all systems. Do you mind trying this for me: go to Affinity Photo Preferences, Performance section and disable/untick Enable Metal compute acceleration checkbox. Can you still reproduce the crash with Metal disabled?
What's your system specs (namely the built-in and dedicated graphic card if you Mac have one)?
    Thanks.

Thank you!!! Version 1.8 fixes the problem ... at least that is what my first test shows. I can switch to "Metal" and all is well.

In my case, I cannot disable it, it is blurred out, it says there is no compatible GPU.

hello from my macbook it crashes when applying fsplit frequency manually (all values by default or not) where can I find logs to send and help to fix this issue?

When it crashes on a Mac it usually opens a windows with a lot of information about the crash. This includes not only a call stack, but a lot of other information that might b helpful to the developer. You can look at the rtf file in the first entry here which is my crash report.

  4. When I use layer blend modes, I can chose from a list of modes ... that is nothing new.

Is there a description available, of what those modes actually do??? And I do not mean this mode lightens up etc. I want a more mathematical view like:

For the sake of explaining lets assume we are talking about RGB colors, so rgba values. The function F_Mx is the function for blend mode Mx, it takes the pixels color values

C_b(P)=(r_b, g_b, b_b, a_b) which is the color value of the pixel below the current layer and

C_c(P)=(r_c, g_c, b_c, a_c) which is the color value of the pixel in the current layer, i.e.

    F_Mx(C_b(P),C_c(P)) = <insert formula here>

This would help me very very very much, to wrap my mind around it, the blend mode names are in itself not explanatory enough (and yes, I am in the Asperger spectrum).

    Cheers, Frank

  5. Wait! The Update from 1.6 to 1.7 was available via the Apple App Store and - I assume this - is free?!?! I bought it yesterday via the Serif page, because I was notified that the update was available. I also purchased the update for Designer. Does that mean I just threw 90€ out of the window or was this legit.

UPDATE: I reported this to Serif and they will refund my direct purchase. You guys are the best! Thank you very much!!!

  6. I kept the old plugins folder from Google that was in the Default Folder, but replaced the NIK Collection by the new one. Now the old plugins start the new tools, works fine on my Mac. The new tools did not seem to be able to be installed into a directory of my liking, but only as plugins for specific apps (none of which I have).

Edit: No, sorry, you are completely correct. I have the same effect ... now looking into it.

  7. Hi all,

I am really annoyed by this. I am using a standard blurry brush for painting in mask layers for instance, but when I try to apply the effects at the edges of areas this effect is really getting in my way.

The attached image shows the effect of painting with a soft circular brush on a white layer. The brush itself is seen as the circle in the image which lies inside of the effect it produces. I cannot imagine that it is really intended to be this way.

Is there any way of limiting the effect to the inside of the brush cursor, so that one can anticipate the actual brush effect?

    Cheers

  8. I evaluated Pixelmator when it first came out and I still have it on my iMac but I barely use it. It is - I must admit - a software that is quite beautiful. It also offers a lot of functionalities and is as a editing software certainly good, but IMHO it bring you only 90% of the way and is lacking some of the more important features that I usually need like frequency separation or wavelet transformations. Last time I checked it, the liquify capabilities did not convince me, but it could be, that they have gotten better with some of the updates.

I was looking for a replacement of GIMP and did not find it in Pixelmator and I only used it to tweak the colors in my pictures, because it has some nice tools for that. Now I completely switched from GIMP to Affinity Photo and there is no need for either of them anymore.

    Cheers, Frank

  9. I bought Pixelmatr myself. It is a very beautifully designed piece of software, no doubt, and it works fine, but I never really switched to Pixelmator and kept using GIMP simply because there were some really important things that I could only do with GIMP and not with Pixelmator (like wavelet transformation or the less sophisticated frequency separation). Once I tried and then very quickly bought AP, I never went back to GIMP again and do not really feel the need to open Pixelmator.

  10. Installing the latest Affinity Photo Beta will add the Affinity Retouching Extension to Photos :)

I am using Affinity Photo since it was available (yes, I bought it and I am very pleased with it ;-) ), I just updated to El Capitan, but I do not have the extension in Photos. Well, it makes sense since I did not run any installer after El Capitan installation, but is there a way to bring the Affinity Photo extension to Photos without re-installing it?

It is not the most important things, but it would be nice to have it there as well.

    Cheers

  11. Maybe I am experiencing the same effect.

When I am editing a photo, then after some time the RBBoD (Rotating Beach Ball of Death) appears and AP is obviously starting file IO as far as I can see, because everything else on the Mac is still running smoothly. This occurs even when I haven't done much. Sometimes it is annoying, when I simply want to change a little thing in an image. After some time AP comes back and reacts normally.

... so, I am interested in more information as well.

    Cheers

  12. I imagine many of us have seen the short video of Designer running on an iPad, and yesterday's iPad Pro announcement seems to be begging for an affordable Adobe alternative. I know development resources are limited, but are there plans to bring Designer (and Photo?) to the iPad?

    Thanks!

    Jim

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the presentation...

    Cheers
