In Illustrator, it can be also an FX !
    Effect > Distort & Transform > Transform
So, it's non destructive, you can change parameters all the time.

    Hi All,
Below is the list of all new feature and improvements which are included in the 2.3 beta (bug fix list is available here).
To learn more about these features please click on the link to go to each feature's dedicated post. To give feedback or report bugs against any of these features please reply to that same post (also check out bug reporting and feedback tips).
    • Move Data Entry improvements
    • New tags panel for adding Alt Text to images and objects
    • Spiral Tool
    • Ability to change Asset Panel background colour
    • Fields now available in Find and Replace
    • Pixel grid added
    • "Keep selected" preference now available in Pencil Tool
    • Create and place password protected PDFs
I should say in general we are now aiming to do slightly smaller updates more regularly than before so we can test and release in smaller chunks. This will allow us to get improvements and fixes out quicker, as well as having overall benefit to the stability of the apps.
The beta phase will now be shorter (4-6 weeks) for any update, and for that reason we will be avoiding any significant changes to functionality during beta as we focus on fixing bugs and correcting unintentional behaviour. This does mean that more of your improvement suggestions may need to wait until a future update (e.g. like some of the Move Data Entry suggestions you made during 2.2 beta which have now been added to 2.3), but please keep those suggestions coming!
    Getting the 2.3 beta
If you have not enrolled into the beta program yet and would like to take part, you can do so here. This will immediately give you access to the latest 2.3 beta builds to try for yourself.
If you are already enrolled in the beta program you have two options:
    1. If you still have the 2.2 beta installed, you can now run up those beta versions and you will be prompted to update them to the 2.3 beta.
    2. If you have uninstalled the 2.2 beta, you will need to go back to Your Account -> Downloads and product keys and find your previous order for the Affinity Beta Software Program, and you can download the 2.3 beta from there.
    Thanks,
    Ash

EricP got a reaction from Mariusz go in Show some love to the Styles feature
The style feature was done long time ago, and since then we got new features like (the great) style picker that render the style panel even less useful.
In addition to what was said in previous posts, I would love the option to combine styles when applying them, instead of fully replacing all attributes.
Imagine having styles for backgrounds (patterns, hash lines ....) and styles for borders. You could choose to apply a background style, then apply a stroke style instead of having to create as many styles as combinations. This can be done with the style picker.
But the real strength would be the ability to stack multiple backgrounds with blend modes (like in appearance panel). Apply successively a style for background color, then a png pattern, then a transparent gradient overlay. The style panel could keep a library organised and the style picker an effective way to "paint" style attributes

Which ones, other than VectorStyler (the only such app I seem to be able to find)?
CorelDraw - introduced in version 2 InkScape offers an extension with a similar capability but it is not "live" - that is, it does not update when you move one of the original objects - and it seems to have some bugs... Vectornator - no such tool Not sure when it was added to Illustrator, but it does not appear to have been in 1.0:

I take it that you mean the swooping, curved lines that form the background textures as in the example below. There are some ways to get that in AD. While it has some disadvantages, you could achieve something similar with the new Warp FX layers. I pasted a quick sample below. A Blend tool gives the advantage of being able to have a live connection at either end of the array and so, this is not the same thing. But I wouldn't agree with your statement that "NO-ONE is going take the risk of moving over to Affinity Designer."  But, still, a Blend tool would be very nice to have.

All of the above methods to place/add an asset still need a manual/custom size adjustments. - Though the double click placement might be the best here, in order to quickly adjust an asset to a desired size. Where the Ctrl/Cmd-Drag, which then in contrast gives a preview of an assets initial size and look here during a drag operation, can't be abandoned during that dragging state, in order to get just a preview without applying the drag.
The Assets Panel itself might be missing some sort of zoomed preview functionality here for a selected asset, in order to get a bigger quick look of an asset before dragging/placing it into the document. - Actually one always has to place/drag and remove it afterwards, if it is probably not one with the wanted look.

EricP reacted to Mario Gattone in Asset background and preview size
    Hello,
I use many sets of icons and logos that I save in the assets. Many are just black icons - with the dark mode, they are very very difficult to see. It would be very good to have the option to set the color background for the asset (at Sub-Category level).
It would be also useful to have the option to define the "preview" size. I have saved some "large" logos and I wish I can have a "full picture" preview rather than just looking at the left part.

    Thank you!

also, it would be great to have a similar option for "select same" functions. If you have several artboards, "select same fill colour" will select objects in all artboards, which is not what you always want.
Let's say you want to create colour variants of the same design, you'd want to select all objects with same colour within an artboard and change their colours without affecting objects in other artboards.
It would be great to have a way to apply the select same to the selected "layer", be it an artboard or a group of objects or multiple layer selection.

My primary use cases would be for creative algorithmic graphic design and processing of mostly vector art.
A good reference for me is Blender, with the ability to script (or node design) custom functions calling existing application features , implement minimal UI dialog using application standard UX components, callable from an icon or menu.
    some examples :
add "objects" to document with control of all their attributes (fills, strokes, opacity, blend mode, fx, position, scale, rotation ….) add adjustment layers and live filters with control of all their parameters  select document objects based on custom criteria (eg select vector objects with fill hue matching a given value +/-10%) randomizing select properties of existing objects (create small color/shape/position variations, randomize gradient orientation) generate custom parametric vector shape (eg grids, spirals, random polygons) with live preview, convert to curves ... recolouring vector art (applying custom palettes to group of hues of current design) applying effects on vector paths (eg merge nodes by distance, custom zig zag, variable stroke width patterns) custom tiling patterns of vector or pixel art (through symbols or other means) custom tool:  apply custom processing on existing canvas objects/paths/nodes selected with cursor+click/tap, add new shapes on canvas with cursor+click/tap place images from disk folder into a clipping mask on document, with control of scale and position within clipping mask

Completely agree that a proper stroke width tool would be very useful and more practical than current pressure curve.
Regarding the other point, have you tried the new scissor/knife tool ? I find it very well implemented

    Hi fde101,
Thanks for your suggestion. Custom brush engines is an interesting idea and we've added it to our list.

Pretty much how the existing brush engine works, unless I'm missing something?

This sounds like a general feature request for parametric brushes, which would be equally applicable to the existing vector brush engine and not really specific to scripting.

Looking good! Question, how will we be able to access the API for different operators inside of Affinity? One thing I always appreciated when using Blender and Maya is that every action taken is actually recorded as a coding command. I.e. changing the position of an object, using modifiers, etc. get recorded in a timeline and you can also right click any button, slider, etc. to copy the code to run that operator. Would really help open up the API to casual coders if we can very clearly see what code we need to do specific stuff.
Also, will switching modes be supported as well? For instance, let's say I am doing something in Designer/Designer Persona and I wish to access Photo/Photo Persona for specific operators, will I be able to program it so Affinity opens up what I need to access it if I own the necessary software?
Would be cool as well if we could create new operators that can be put into the current UI and even make shortcuts for them in all the accessible menus.
I happen to know a guy who wishes to get started on a basic animation timeline for Affinity once there is a scripting API established. Will that be possible too?

thank you. That is very useful.
One additional thing regarding stroke width shortcuts. When the stroke is 0 pt width (often by default), the right bracket shortcut doesn't seem to work. It starts working from 0.1 pt onward. Looks like the shortcut is multiplicative (adds/removes a percentage of current value), maybe it's the reason it doesn't work with 0 pt, just guessing
It would be great if this limitation could be removed, unless there is a good reason for it

I just tried the perspective filter on a large really drawing with a mixture of vector and raster elements. Works great initially!. I was impressed with the speed. but If I undo after applying the layout gets a bit broken...then corrects itself! will upload a video...
    So
    Process
    1. Select Artboard in PX Persona
    2. Activate Perspective Filter
    3. Apply results
    4. Undo
    6. Switch to Wireframe to correct!

Apart from the weird bit at around 50 seconds it is great!.. surprised me a bit as this file is well...complex!

The improvement to the application of dashed strokes is beyond brilliant, it may only be a small change but it is hugely welcome, definitely looking forward to the addition of non-integer value adjustments in a future release but even the simple drag action for setting dash and gap intervals makes this feature so much more intuitive and dramatically improves the workflow for dashed lines and finally allows us to create professional layouts using dashed lines where before, well, you really just couldn't, thank you... 👏
