  1. There's some styling from one of my paragraph styles that is not being applied to the text I select. I have tried setting both the paragraph style and character style to "[No Style]" and re-applying the desired paragraph style, but the style is still being overridden somehow. It says "Subhead+" in the top properties bar for some reason. (This style is working fine on all other areas. It's supposed to have paragraph spacing before.) In InDesign, I could option + click to apply only the formatting from the styles, and clear anything else. I can't find an option to do that. How can I apply my styles?
  2. Pinning! I've never seen this before. looks like it does more or less what I want to do. Thanks!
  3. Thank you. Is there a way for it to stay inline with the text? That's the most logical way to work with an image, given that the image is inline with the text that refers to it.
  4. I'm trying to control the text wrap on an image that is flowing within the text. (The text was imported from .docx format, which included the image.) Yet none of the space after paragraph settings nor text wrap settings are having any effect. What am I missing?
  5. Right – presumably if the software is designed to allow one to make this mistake, there is a good reason. That's what I can't figure out – why someone would want this behavior. Anyway, thank you for your help!
  6. Thanks. Is there a reason I might prefer .docx over .rtf?
  7. Okay, I struggled to imagine a situation where I would want that to happen, so good to know that it shouldn't be happening. It certainly was not the behavior I expected!
  8. Thanks for the idea. I see that if I import RTF via Google Docs those styles – along with their respective style names – do import. Is there a way to import so that existing styles that I have designed within Publisher will automatically be applied to what I import?
  9. Thank you! I hadn't considered that something could be included in a Master page yet not actually be in the original master page.
  10. Up until now I have been convinced that I would lay out my next book in Publisher instead of InDesign. But I can't imagine doing that without an XML import. After formatting an entire 60,000 word book in my word processing program, I'm supposed to go through it line by line to add the proper styles – essentially formatting the entire thing again? No way! Damn, that's disappointing – I was looking forward to making the switch.
  11. I placed an image, and cannot modify it. I can't replace it through the Resource Manager. I can't delete it from the Layer's palette. Once selected on the Layers palette, a message at the bottom of the window says "The selection is locked and cannot be moved. Unlock the selection to transform it." AFAIK it's not locked. Even if I choose "Unlock" or "Unlock all" from the menu, nothing changes. I'm out of ideas on what I might be getting wrong. Is this the expected behavior?
