  1. I did do a search, but purposely wanted to bump a new thread in hopes it would gain attention again. I wasn't aware though that the cause had been identified. It would be fixed by moving the verification process after the initial UI loads however, though I'm not sure if that's possible with App Store submitted MacOS apps. Could be right in that case, it's an Apple thing - though these Affinity apps are the only ones purchased from the App Store that have this poor loading speed on initial load. To me, it's annoying enough to warrant moving to something else as it's been a lingering issue and speaks to some degree to the quality of the software and/or update cycle in general. However, since the software is on sale I've now purchased a copy of both Photo and Designer directly vs the App Store. Solved the issue now, loads instantly. Re: the system specs ... I'm running dual XDR displays with the system as well, definitely a beast. Beautifully designed system. I'm a hardware and software engineer / developer; developed software that interconnects with custom developed hardware for NHL training centers etc. as well as many other integrated systems like shipping & tracking etc. I don't often max out the system at all, but it's there should I need it and it runs dead silent, and pushes these two 6K Apple XDR displays plus all of my attached external storage and other hardware I develop for / with, with ease
  2. Update: it seems there's a load-speed issue when the app is purchased from the Apple App Store. I downloaded the trial, and it loads almost instantaneously. The first load, it took longer as the application was being verified by Apple servers; but upon every reboot and first load, it loads instantly. It's something to do with Apple's verification process with these Affinity apps on load. I think Affinity needs to update their software, to run the licensing check after the UI loads for the application. That would solve all issues with load times.
  3. This has been an issue for as long as I've been using Affinity software, all the way back to Catalina and several revisions of both Photo and Designer. It's about time this is fixed but I'm not holding my breath ... the only thing keeping me using the software is as a developer, I don't often need to spend too much time in photo or vector editing applications. Otherwise, I'm about ready to try something else. There are also now weird crosshair / cursor issues in Designer since 1.9 I've not had before
  4. Interesting it loads quickly on your M1 chip MacBook Pro. Specifically, I've had an issue spanning multiple revisions with completely stock installs of Affinity Photo and Designer. No additional fonts, plugins or otherwise and fresh installs. Is your copy downloaded from the App Store, or standalone directly from Affinity? I wonder if that may be a difference, but regardless Affinity is quiet on this despite numerous complaints about performance issues. Part of their "1.9 release hype" was improved performance. Unfortunately, not so much. I'm sure there's a reason Affinity is quiet about the issue
  5. Affinity - I'm running version 1.9 of both Designer and Photo, and they are STILL painfully slow to launch. I'm running a 2019 MacPro with 96GB ECC ram, 16 core Xeon and the 32GB Radeon Pro Vega II, with 2TB SSD. In other words, a very expensive and high-powered Mac Pro. Affinity software loads like a pile of rubbish. For the cost, I get that it's more economical than Adobe and it's good design software in general but the performance is not worth any savings in value. Sadly to say, regardless of any cost of entry, being at a version 1.9 and still loading like a bag of bricks shows extremely poor attention to detail and coding. Will you guys actually fix this problem, or continue to pretend it doesn't exist?
  6. I'm running macOS 10.15.6 on a 2019 (7,1) Mac Pro - with 96GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, 12 Core Xeon and the W5700X. Quite a powerful machine, with a very quick SSD. All other apps load instantly, but these Affinity apps take upwards of 30+ seconds on first open which seems like forever by comparison. I've tried resetting the app by holding down ^Control while opening it, and clearing the user data but it makes 0 difference on the next reboot. This has spanned multiple versions. Currently running ver 1.8.4 I'm not the only one with the issue. It's not a configuration issue, it's a clean install of macOS, on a beast of a computer. The issue is the poor coding of the app. I've also gone to the point of removing all unused fonts down to the bare minimums of a fresh macOS Install. This needs to be fixed ASAP
  7. Hello, This has gotten to the point of ridiculousness unfortunately. These Affinity apps (Photo & Designer) are massive pigs in the performance area; especially compared to even the Adobe line of design applications.
