  1. Before I report this as a bug, I want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong or haven't selected some setting without knowing. In Designer 2.3.0, when I use the box selection tool in pixel persona it adds a huge amount of feathering. The corners become rounded and it fades from opaque to transparency. This is before refining the selection. It didn't used to do this, and it's not doing it in Photo either. I tried restarting the app and my machine. Below you can see what it looks like when I simply open an image, click and drag with the box selection tool, and then use the cut command. Anyone know how to resolve this?
  2. True, in certain scenarios it would probably be too complex to get accurate values, and maybe in those scenarios the option is not available, but for many scenarios where adjustment layers would be used on vector art it doesn't seem like it should be and it would be a huge efficiency... where there could be a simple change of value. If they're flat colors, for example, it's the equivalent of using the eye dropper tool on each object and then applying the color. If they are gradients, it could grab the colors as the eye dropper would from the coordinates of each stop and apply those values to the stops. The only time I have needed this is when I'm working with simple color adjustments like HSL and Recolor. I don't really use complex curves on vector art. Use case: I paste a vector illustration into a larger piece and decide, hmmm, I need to up the saturation on this to better match the piece. So my option is to increase the saturation on every color separately by using select same> fill which could take forever depending on the complexity of the piece, or I apply an adjustment to the group, in which case it's rasterized on export, which is not ideal. Another use case: I want to adapt a vector piece that has various orange tones so that those tones become various purple tones to better match a client's brand. I apply the HSL adjustment layer to achieve this effect, but now, again, I can't export as vector. So if the artwork contains adjustment layers where this is impossible, the option could just be greyed out on right click. If it is possible, it could be available. Heck, it doesn't even have to technically be adjustment layers. It could just be the ability to use sliders for the same values that are in the color chooser window like hue, saturation, lightness (although recolor would be nice to have too) but it would apply them to each item in the group independently relative to their original value, and where there are gradients, to each stop independently. That would still be an enormous efficiency for making adjustments to the whole piece that provide accurate color values and retain vector objects on export. I'm guessing this would be less problematic to implement as well.
  3. It would be amazing if there was a quick way to convert adjustment layers to actual colors on vector objects. For example, say I apply a recolor adjustment to a vector group. The function would apply the actual color values I’m seeing (as if they were all simultaneously grabbed and applied with the eye dropper) to each vector object within the group while removing the adjustment layer. This would allow the use of adjustment layers for group adjustments while still maintaining the ability to retain vectors on export. It would also make the numerical color values accurate so they could be used elsewhere without having to use the eye dropper tool on every color. I have needed this feature on multiple occasions.
  4. Each of those squares you see highlighted is a raster image. If you zoom in, they are pixelated. The only vectors are squares applied as masks to slice the image up. If this were opened in Illustrator, everything would be vector and correctly separated into layers. I am in vector mode and this is V 2.1. Loads of people have this issue in the Affinity groups I'm in on Facebook. It does not seem to occur on super simple vectors. I'd usually be safe downloading something like icons. But if there are certain effects applied it will open like this, which is usually the case with anything of complexity that contains gradients, transparency, blending, etc.
  5. Many stock vector images made in Illustrator and found on stock image sites like Shutterstock do not open correctly in Designer. It could be as high as 50% of them so purchasing is always a risk. They load as masked square slices and are rasterized. This is usually due to various Illustrator effects and methods applied that Affinity can’t read. I saw that this topic had been raised before and the reply was basically that nothing could be done about this. However, Photopea, an online tool, can open them fine, and then you can download as SVG, which will then open correctly in Designer. So they seemed to have figured it out. While I am super happy to have found this workaround, I think a lot of professionals see this as a significant hindrance to adopting Affinity because they haven’t found a solution, and it seems like if Photopea can do it, Serif should be able to also. And for anyone who thinks a real designer wouldn’t use stock, it can really help keep client projects on budget. It’s a matter of efficiency in certain scenarios to borrow from and alter stock designs. Therefore, I hope fixing this is made a priority. In the meantime, I will rely on Photopea, and hopefully this post will help others who have been frustrated with this issue for years.
  6. It would be great if you could add fonts to the select>same menu. This would allow global changes to font styles. Thanks!
  7. Both of my credit cards and my debit card are in perfectly good standing but they're all being declined (or so your site says) in your store on both Safari and Chrome. Seems like a bug. I even did the two-step verification with a number sent to my phone. I was finally able to use Paypal to purchase. I'm in the US and tried both Safari and Chrome on Mac OS Big Sur.
  8. It would be nice if when you quit the app or close the main app window and the option to save pops up for each file, the associated tab comes forward so you can see what it is you're actually choosing to save or not. Currently this does not happen. It's a really nice and efficient way to clean up all of the garbage after a long day instead of trying to remember what each file is by the file name or clicking through one by one before closing.
  9. I just told them the layered file I had on hand wasn't 100% true vector. I didn't turn down the job, and when I said in my comment I couldn't provide the icons in vector, I meant at that moment because I was busy with other tasks and they needed it in a time sensitive manner. To do so I would have to take it into another app and recreate and though that's not a big job by any means, my time is incredibly compressed and I'm up against very aggressive deadlines. It would have been nice to say, "Yes, here you go," with quick turnaround that required only export. I also didn't know when I posted that comment that someone would be eager to make all manner of assumptions and dissect it for argument and character attacks. Silly me. See how off-topic we've gotten now that you continue your tirade against me? Your behavior is the very definition of a troll. Time to stop feeding, for real this time. I'm sure observers are shaking their heads.
  10. I didn't turn down the job. I ultimately ended up providing the vector icons undistorted to the video producer so he could use them as he willed, and I could have recreated them in another app in distorted form. It just would have been faster and more convenient to actually have the feature so I could give him the original layered file and be done with it since I have heavy work load at the moment. I've been designing for middle market to major brands for almost 20 years and my clients value me and are dependent on my services so I have no insecurities about whether I'm a professional. You brought the incendiary tone. Affinity needs to know why this feature is important. That includes providing scenarios for when it would have been nice or critical to have. Yes, there are workarounds, but if they want to improve their applications they need to include features that are commonly used. I'm a member of several Affinity groups and this has been one of the most requested features FOR YEARS. So far, we've received radio silence from Serif so it makes sense to keep making noise considering there are companies and open source projects with less development capability who are able to perspective distort vectors. No idea why you took this so personally or felt the need to attack me. I think I've made my point, but I'm doubtful you're willing to grasp it. You just want to find ways to argue or someone to demean. Does that make you feel more professional? Now I need to get back to work. Thankful I don't have to deal with you in any other capacity, professional or otherwise. *SMH* Good grief!
  11. I think it’s clear who is a troll and degrading the discussion here. We’re providing examples for why this feature is important. Why don’t you go take your personal attacks to the dumpster fire of public social media comment threads. I’m done replying to this nonsense.
  12. I think it totally depends on what it’s being used for. I use it mostly for web page layout and creating simple corporate vector graphics. I’d imagine more features are missing for people who do more complex vector illustrations, for example.
  13. I prefer Affinity because it is faster and more intuitive. I find Adobe apps clunky, overpriced, and painful to use by comparison. In this case, I would have distorted the vectors in another app but a) I didn’t anticipate this graphic being requested for another use where vectors would be required. It was a simple landing page graphic. And b) going into vectorstyler, which I do use occasionally, is an awkward workflow that adds time to the task. Vectorstyler and Inkscape also have clunky interfaces by comparison. Affinity suits all of my needs 98% of the time, but that missing 2% is irritating because it shouldn’t be that difficult to add the missing key features. I do use alternative apps for other features too like auto trace. Still, it would be better to have these at the ready within the app. I handle incredibly high volume for multiple agencies. They value my efficiency, part of which is made possible by Affinity’s intuitive interface, which is reminiscent of Fireworks, a tool Adobe acquired and then killed, not realizing its efficiency advantages.
  14. I needed this feature just yesterday. I use Affinity Designer professionally and a video producer was asking for icons that I had distorted for perspective in vector format. I couldn't provide that, nor could I provide any explanation for why that wouldn't make them wonder why I wasn't using Adobe Illustrator. Please fix. The usability of Adobe is abysmal but the lacking features of Affinity result in very awkward professional situations. Other beta and open source vector programs have this. What's the hold up?
  15. There are some perspective and distort tools in Affinity Photo that might offer what you’re looking for but they rasterize vector images. There’s currently no distort/warp tools that can preserve curves.
  16. Though Vectorstyler is feature rich, I find that the usability still needs some work. It also depends on what people are using the software for. Last I checked, you can copy vectors straight out of VectorStyler and paste into Designer so they work well together. I do more layout work than illustration. I use vector tools mostly for logos, icons, and more basic shapes. I like the workflow of Affinity better for this but I do sometimes need vector perspective/warp and it is a blaring omission! And though I don’t do much illustration it seems obvious to me that the lack of real vector brushes is a problem for those who do. Auto-trace is another missing feature that needs to be implemented. Everyone is just really hoping Affinity surprises us in 2.0 by filling these gaps. It would allow many to leave the Adobe environment forever. Serif, are you listening?
  17. The document was created in Affinity. I opened the working file, edited the links, and then exported again. It appears that maybe the new links are not overwriting the old. It was also exported with a different file name so it's not a refresh issue in the PDF viewer.
  18. I just updated to 1.9.3. My client wanted to update links in a PDF document. After I edited these, they were incorrect after export. A few issues arose. 1. The link I inputted with a subdomain Amark.com/gar worked correctly for me in Apple Preview but only the main website Amarki.com opened for him (not sure what PDF viewer he was using). 2. The Zoom link I updated for a webinar register link was completely wrong and went to a broken page for both of us. I suspect this may have been an old link but not sure if that's it or if it was altered by Publisher somehow on export. 3. Another oddity is that when I hover over the links in Apple Preview, what displays is inconsistent. Sometimes it shows the correct links and sometimes it displays the incorrect links. This is with keeping the document open and not changing anything. I double checked the links in the working file and they are correct. Problem persists after re-exporting.
  19. I would say this is only true from a feature perspective, and Affinity is only a few features away from being a true competitor with respect to the most desirables, image/perspective warp being one of them along with image trace (bitmap to vector). Keeping warped elements vector is important as well for logos and the like. I follow several Affinity social media groups and it's always these two features people are looking for workarounds for. The intuitiveness of the UX and workflow in Affinity are superb, and I think that's why most of us use it. I was off and running almost immediately when I transitioned from Fireworks years ago, which, though it temporarily wore the Adobe name was created by Macromedia. It takes me at least 30% longer to achieve the same results in Adobe and how to accomplish tasks is not nearly as self-discoverable as Affinity.
  20. When I make multiple artboards in a document, in this case for a set of display ads, and the artboards are sized to a spec like 300x250px, whether I use Export Persona or export individually, a single pixel is often added to the X or Y axis of the artboard and the positioning is off. This results in a 1 px gap on one or both of the axises. This was occurring before and after the 1.9 update. The fix then involves going into export persona and resizing the artboard slices but then some of them are still out of position by a pixel so I have to move the slice as well by comparing to the first export before re-exporting. I thought it might have to do with a single pixel stroke on a transparent rectangle I was making the same size as the artboard to add as a border but hiding this stroke before export does not solve the problem.
  21. +1 on what everyone in this thread has been asking for. We need vector perspective distort badly (and other warp tools would be nice too) to use this software professionally without frustrating workarounds. I love Affinity. I was a Fireworks user years ago and was so annoyed when Adobe bought it and just let it die not realizing the value it brought in ease of use and layout for screen. For a while I lost about 30% efficiency. Affinity has that intuitive ease of use but is missing this most important feature. I'm tired of trying to evangelize this software but having to say for years now, "It's great, but.... there's no vector perspective distort / warp tools or auto-trace." I want to be able to tell people hands down that Affinity can suit all the needs of most professional graphic designers. We're not there yet, but soooo close. Maybe Serif should get a round of funding and purchase VectorStyler to incorporate their features with some improvements for usability? Or maybe you're on the cusp of great things including this feature for version 2.0? Sure would be nice to have some idea when or even if this is going to be released.
