  1. I notice the vignette effect is quite subtle and needs to be pushed quite hard to get the desired effect. I realise this makes it appear more natural but often you will want it darker for creative reasons. You can stack a couple of vignette adjustments to make it darker but it would be good if the effect was stronger to begin with as it seems the adjustment control has a lot of range to allow for this.

  2. Hi MEB.

I wanted to question the ability for Photos to send a PNG to a third party app.

I have three images I have saved in Photos as a PNG with a transparent background to use for watermarks. I use the workflow app as a way to batch process photos to a specific size and add one of these images as a watermark and the transparency is preserved.

I have also just tested this with the Pixelmator app as well and again, I can add multiple PNG files from Photos as layers and the transparency is still preserved, all the way to and including a final exported image back to Photos.

It appears to me that PNG files with transparency can be opened from Photos into a third party app with the transparency preserved.

  3. @Callum Thanks a lot for your fast response!

With bugs, I mean: At the moment I cannot import Photos from my Nikon D3300. The image is rendered horribly (RAW format). Might be another issue!

I understand the purpose of your applications, but it would be nice to address Photographers who want to switch from Lightroom and use it more like a “I shoot 500 pictures, edit them in Affinity and then show them to friends and family” workflow!

Anyway, good job with the app, looking forward to the updates!

This is why I would urge the developers to look at the likes of Photogene or even Polarr apps on the iPad. Photogene in particular nails it in how it lets you browse the camera roll and edit images without the need to import each image individually. This also lets you batch process files by selecting the images you have edited and export with some global settings such as image dimensions, file format and watermarks.

  4. I'm enjoying Photo for the most part but have the following wish. The ability to use the Photos app as a catalog i.e. from within AP, you can open the camera roll of the iPad and open images directly without the need to import first. Any changes made to the image are saved within AP but you then have the option of saving these changes back to the camera roll (photos app) or exporting as a new image. This also opens up the door for batch exporting.

    Consider the following example:

I import 200 wedding photos onto the iPad. Currently if I wanted to work on these images in AP, I would need to import each one individually, make any changes and then export each one individually.

With the feature I am requesting, you could browse through all 200 images without the need to individually import each one. This makes it much faster to work through all 200 images and make any edits. Now when complete, you can select all 200 images in AP and export as a single operation with some global settings such as resize, sharpen or adding a watermark.

A couple of apps I use today already offer this way of working and it is much quicker than importing individual images. The apps for reference are Photogene and Polarr - both available on the App Store although it appears Photogene has been abandoned as it hasn't been updated in a couple of years.

  5. Hey guys!

I am very new to graphic design so you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge. I recently purchased Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer for my Mac. I am trying to find the best solution to being able to draw basic sketches and diagrams. I don't need to be able to draw anything with great detail or very artistic.

I have an iPad 4th generation (so not a Pro) and I am wondering if there is an app I get use to be able to draw on my iPad to interact with Affinity Photo or Designer. Another option I have been exploring is buying a Wacom.

What advice can you give me as to whether I would be better off using my iPad with a specific stylus or purchasing a Wacom. What are my options? Thank you!

For iPad apps, look up Astropad or Duet Display. They work best with the Apple Pencil but you can still use a passive (cheap) stylus or your finger to draw on the iPad inside of the Affinity apps.
