David in Яuislip reacted to Arviddw in Corrupt file Publisher
Hi David,
Thank you so much, it works. So this must be a MacOS problem.
Hope affinity checks this bug out.

David in Яuislip got a reaction from Joewild in Export multiple slices with "central" pixel layer/background color that is not included in the slice
You can change the transparent areas to any colour by defining a matte

David in Яuislip got a reaction from waterworks in Rotate/newly align/change direction of text WITHIN a form
I did this in Publisher V1, hope it's useful

David in Яuislip got a reaction from tallonius in Why is it so difficult to copy and paste and do simple things in this software?
I've always admired Bill Gates 🙂

David in Яuislip got a reaction from All Media Lab in Affinity dev team showing very disappointing development skills! Looking at Photoshop now!
Harsh but justified, I gave up after the msi/msix debacle
As someone who spent a working life in heavy engineering where document revision control can be the difference between life and death I found this amusing
https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/191874-220-prompt-still-appearing/
Now no one will die because of a few wobbly pixels but it reflects the company's attitude. Good luck to you

David in Яuislip got a reaction from _Tomasz_ in Why when I export the slice the resolution decreases?
Check the dpi, if it's 144 or 192 the slices will be reduced to 50% per the table below
Exported slice dimensions and DPI
When exporting slices via the Export Persona, the slice export size (1x, 2x, 3x, etc.) is linked with your document's DPI. The table below shows how DPI and export size affect export dimensions, using a 64x64 px document as an example.
DPI setting for a 64x64 document Export dimensions (in pixels); Exported DPI 1x 2x 3x 72 64x64; 72 128x128; 144 192x192; 216 96 64x64; 96 128x128; 192 192x192; 288 144 32x32; 72 64x64; 144 96x96; 216 192 32x32; 96 64x64; 192 96x96; 288 216 21x21; 72 42x42; 144 64x64; 216 288 21x21; 96 42x42; 192 64x64; 288 -
David in Яuislip got a reaction from HobbyFan in [Windows 11, 2.1.1] Table cell width will not go higher than 400 px when using cell width option
Yep, same in V1 however all is not lost providing you have a sense of humour
If I need a column width of 497px, change the units to mm, dig out Excel, calculate 42.07933333mm @300dpi and enter that
Change the units back to pixels and confirm, don't touch the cell widths when units are pixels
Hard to believe that this is, "By Design"

David in Яuislip reacted to kenmcd in (Beginner): what are good and free fonts to use for body text? Tips for licensing? Where to buy, etc.?
There are a number of high quality "free" OFL-licensed font families which are good for text.
Crimson Pro - (probably the closest to Minion)
Google Fonts has been updating this family, and not keeping the public sources up-to-date.
This Pro version has more features, and more styles available than the Text family.
And it has a variable font which you could use to make your own custom weight if you desire.
Download here: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Crimson+Pro
Source Serif 4
I use this daily for long documents.
Many OpenType features, and optical size - this is a professional font for free.
Created by Adobe employees.
And it has a variable font which you could use to make your own custom weight if you desire.
Download here: https://github.com/adobe-fonts/source-serif
Use the release download from the repo, not from Google Fonts.
STIX Two Text - (described as "a fresh take on Times Roman")
High quality text fonts made by experts. Again, professional grade.
And it has a variable font which you could use to make your own custom weight if you desire.
Download here: https://github.com/stipub/stixfonts
Libre Baskerville - is rather limited
Just Regular, Italic, and Bold.
Not much in the way of OpenType features.
It is in the Google Fonts pipeline to be upgraded in the future.
Download here: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Libre+Baskerville
There is also an update to Libre Caslon in the works, but that is way off.
Times New Roman is not a modern font - compared to the first three above.
It has a lot of really odd stuff in it.
Recommend you avoid it and use a modern font.
Another high quality text font...little different style...
Literata - A contemporary serif typeface family for long-form reading
Was originally created as the brand typeface for Google Play Books.
Since has been expanded and improved.
Lots of OpenType features, lots of languages - and optical size.
And it has a variable font which you could use to make your own custom weight if you desire.
Download here: https://github.com/googlefonts/literata
That will have v3.103 for download.
There is a v3.200 available from another repo with a few updates/fixes.
If you decide to use that one I can attach the updated version.
Test these font families with your text and see how they look.
Print at least a chapter and read it completely.
Note: all of these include multiple static fonts that you can use in APub.
Not sure if I made that clear.

David in Яuislip got a reaction from Shawnn in Support for Canon RF 24-70mm lens
If you download Adobe DNG Converter you will have access to many .lcp files which should work with Photo by placing them in the Lens Profile folder
eg
RF 24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM - RAW.lcp
RF 50mm F1.2 L USM - RAW.lcp
CanonRF.txt

David in Яuislip got a reaction from walt.farrell in Insert Field
Path should be available under Document Statistics, it is in V1

David in Яuislip got a reaction from User78 in Batch mode, Layer blend ranges, Open image
You can batch paste an image as the lowest layer in the stack by opening the image and recording
Copy
Paste
Arrange/Move to back
Now when you run the batch
An image from the list will be loaded
The background will be loaded on top then moved to the bottom of the stack
I don't understand "BLEND OPTIONS -> Underlying Composition Ranges in a specific location" so can't help with that
-
David in Яuislip got a reaction from frozenjazz in I would like to paste where my selection is, but found no way...
You can set the snapping rules to Snap to pixel selection bounds so you can set guides at say the top & left of the selection marquee then use those to paste the revised work back
There is no equivalent of Photoshop Paste Into

David in Яuislip got a reaction from chriscaldwell in Compositing question

David in Яuislip got a reaction from Holgi666 in suche eine Automation um aus rechteckigen Bildern ein Quadrat zu machen
You can use a macro in a batch job - see attached
The macro will square the image then the batch job parameters can be set to resize the image as required
Be aware that resizing images usually requires sharpening afterwards so you could use a second batch job to apply a sharpening macro
Personally I'd use Imagemagick to do everything in one pass
SquareImage.afmacro

David in Яuislip got a reaction from v_kyr in GIMP file exported to Photoshop's PSD format won't import into AD
It's Indexed color which I suspect is stuffing Photo
If you convert it to rgb with Imagemagick
magick Plus42.psd -colorspace rgb Plus42IM.psd
then it opens in Photo
Plus42IM.zip

David in Яuislip got a reaction from Oufti in Can I have dual spelling/character languages?
Then all text in this frame is set to English - Correct
Do you see an advantage … or why do you try / mention this? - Yes, it applies both Dutch and English dictionaries. I originally thought I'd have to clear the C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Common\1.0\Dictionaries\en_GB folder, add the Dutch files and rename to en-GB but then I tried what I've described and it works as shown
I assume this way spell-checking gets more or less useless, for instance for misspelled words in a sentence of one language that exist in another language / the added dictionary (with same or different meaning), for instance | mine - mijn - mein | mon - moon - mond - monde - mohn | etc. - Correct. If an English word is misspelled but is valid in Dutch then no error will show. But since my English speeling is impeccible I don't see a problem....

David in Яuislip got a reaction from Jane P in Exporting graphics into a PDF loses resolution
I copy the graphic in Excel then Paste Special/EMF in Publisher. It stays vector and remains as sharp as a sharp thing

David in Яuislip got a reaction from R C-R in How to stroke text and retain sharp corners?
If you are using Photo, select the pen, node or shape tool to get access to the stroke panel, no need to convert to curves
