Tormy reacted to Ash in Affinity Designer: any plan to export DXF / DWG?
Hi Guys,
We have just added DWG and DXF export to the latest beta version (2.4) of Affinity Designer. More detail here:

Tormy reacted to R C-R in Affinity Designer: any plan to export DXF / DWG?
For quite a few years now, it has been Serif's policy not to publicly comment on their plans so the first indications we get about such things usually is when they are implemented in the betas.

Tormy reacted to umami in DXF Export
After waiting for YEARS for DXF support with literally no response from anyone at Serif, this feels like a cruel joke to release half a feature. Very disappointing to say the least.
DXF import without export is, as tac0man said, pretty useless, so I can only assume there are other complicating factors that make this difficult for Serif to accomplish. Some clear and direct communication about it would go a LONG way toward building goodwill and managing expectations for the future of the Affinity suite. Right now, about 75% of my work in Adobe Illustrator involves both DXF import and export for product design and graphic design for things like labeling, packaging, etc.
I don't understand the purpose of building a house with knobs on only one side of the doors.

Tormy reacted to frank26080115 in [Affinity Designer] How to export a DXF file?
The purposed is to import a SVG into a SolidWorks sketch, which requires DXF or DWG. Luckily I actually own a copy of Adobe Illustrator and I already have the work around...
The dumb part is that my old copy of Adobe Illustrator CS6 causes problems with my monitor calibration, and my entire monitor starts to flicker as soon as I run it, so I really don't like running it.
Inkscape also works but that's a last resort.
I really just want Affinity Designer to add DXF and DWG. I work with lasers, water jet, and die cutters frequently. Come on, feature parity with Adobe pretty much requires DXF + DWG import and export.

Indeed, another omission by Affinity. Supported in Windows with PowerPoint, PaintShop Pro, and the very old Print Artist.
Us users are supposed to use tedious work-arounds.

Tormy reacted to Patrick Connor in [FAQ] 2.1 Release Notes (improvements and major fixes)
2.1.1 Bug Fixes
This post covers the bug fixes that are included in 2.1.1 The bug fixes are organised by operating system.
Bugs affecting all platforms
PDF imports with unsupported characters for the 'Subject' field, then fails to export out to PDF. Crash when enabling document Baseline Grid due to Running Headers on Master Pages. Crash applying a Paragraph Style to a Running Header within a small text frame. Non-breaking hyphens no longer draws, though does not affect ALL fonts. Crash adding pages into a facing page document with flowing text. Help updates Bugs affecting Desktop (Windows and macOS)
'Title' and 'Description' fields are not read from the XMP sidecar files. Batch Processing RAW files creates incredibly dark results. Data Merge sources stored on a Cloud drive can crash the app when deleting data source. Bugs affecting Windows
Export dialog correctly handling transparency again. Cropping in the develop persona does not visually apply crop. Changing the Opacity of an object via the Colour panel dropdown fails to visually update the object on the canvas. Fields Panel- changing the contents without pressing enter causes the fields to clear when enter is next pressed in a field. Bugs affecting macOS
NIK Collection: Crash when closing app after Colour Efex. Crash after deleting a template file. Bugs affecting iPad
Version number in iPad settings is full version number not just build. Stroke width cannot exceed 100 in any unit in Stroke Panel. -
Tormy reacted to David in Яuislip in Crop an one image/layer within a Photo document
I used to do that but it's a pain in the bum as you can't see under the shape so what I now do is create a marquee then add a fill layer and use that shape to clip the original. It's still positionable and sizeable like a quick shape

Found it.

Tormy reacted to peter in Invert Text
Try this:
Create a new layer.
Enter your text on that layer.
Change the all of your text from black to white (it is the background colour).
Then using the blend mode as mentioned by Alfred, keep your white text selected then use Contrast Negate.
Job done. B)

at the end it's what I'm doing .. never more installing any updates from Microsoft Store

Tormy reacted to PaulEC in I got 2 installations for each product when it should be one
If it was me (and I don't guarantee this is the best solution!) I would make a backup of the user files - just in case! (as per the location in DanC's linked post above,) then remove all the Affinity apps, then redownload and install the version I wanted from the Affinity store.

Tormy got a reaction from walt.farrell in I got 2 installations for each product when it should be one
yes I got this
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_201.0.1799.0_x64__844sdzfcmm7k0\App
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2_2.0.4.1701_x64__3cqzy0nppv2rt\App
but now how can clean uninstall the one is not wanted without removing all the optional packages I installed? Included the templates I created?

Tormy reacted to NathanC in help Affinity photo designer publisher 2.0: I lost the shortcuts
Hi @Tormy,
If the apps were installed via the .MSIX even if you don't have read permissions on your local user account to access the 'Windowsapps' folder you should still be able to create a desktop shortcut for the app by opening run command (Windows Key + R) and then enter in the following: Shell:AppsFolder and then press Enter. This should open up the 'Applications' folder in explorer where you'll find the Affinity apps, you can then right click and create a shortcut on the desktop for each app.
If you're having issues with this, could you possibly provide us with screenshots of any errors you recieve for running this command?

Tormy got a reaction from walt.farrell in How to stroke text in Affinity Photo
Movie Posters Music Posters Flyers Photo-Teasers etc ... It's often used on the contained writes. In several cases it's used. I see now more often in YT Thumbnails, it's something used quite frequently.

Tormy reacted to Murfee in How to stroke text in Affinity Photo
Try just selecting the layer then activate the pen tool, this should now enable the stroke in the context bar
-
Tormy reacted to Alfred in marquee selection with rounded corners
Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @nerdess.
Draw a round-cornered rectangle with the Rectangle Tool. With the shape still selected, switch to the Pen Tool and press the ‘Selection’ button on the Context toolbar (and then delete the shape layer if no longer required).

Tormy reacted to omiK in AMD Radeon RX Hardware Acceleration
Any update on this issue? New drivers came a couple of weeks ago and i think we really need some kind of clarification after a year whitout a valid solution.

Tormy reacted to kkoukos in AMD Radeon RX Hardware Acceleration
Hi,
+1 Suffering from the issue. I recently changed my GPU from an old RX 480 to the latest and greatest RX 6900 XT and i noticed that OpenCL acceleration stopped working on Affinity Photo. I tried different versions of the application and the AMD Driver but without much luck.
I had a look at the discussion and also had a look at the code you published at github. I understand that fixing performance of the OpenCL compiler within the driver would significantly improve the situation and i would certainly support you 100% that it needs to be fixed.
However, i believe that Serif developers could make a workaround to fix the performance issue by simply moving all the overhead outside the critical path and into the initialization phase (startup) of the application (if not already doing so). Yes, i agree, the application would take a couple more seconds to load, but when the kernel is already pre-compiled at startup, and only an enqueue of the arguments and the kernel is required to do the job when requested (when the user makes something that requests the OpenCL kernel to execute), the overall user experience should be totally unaffected by this issue. Furthermore, I believe this would significantly improve the overall performance on all OpenCL capable devices.
* My suggestion assumes that the execution performance of the OpenCL kernel is unaffected by the driver issue. I am also aware that this might sound trivial when looking at the "HelloWorld" example, but it might be way more complicated, time consuming and challenging when it comes to the real application.
Nevertheless, I hope you take this feedback into consideration and i would be really happy to see the full potential of the latest Radeon GPUs within affinity again.

Not even with the Pro (to me). I already tried it

This looks very much related to the issue I had with 'new from clipboard'. It would be nice if Serif could start addressing this as these DPI issues are prone to errors and unneeded confusion:

Tormy got a reaction from Old Bruce in [SOLVED] Affinity Designer: Objects disappear after subtraction
I created a transparent image.
I added a filled in rectangle, then I wrote a word that I wanted to delete from the background,.I wanted hollow letters.
Everything disappeared.
Then I converted the word into Curves, repeated the operation: after subtraction, everything disappeared.
I removed the transparent background, guessing it was caused by this, and I repeated the aforementioned operations.
No way.
I'm still struggling on this, and I don't find the way out 😕
EDIT: right after have posted this topic, I'm made an apparent mistake that in fact, solved the issue.
I had to put the layer with the filled in rectangle, underneath the letter I wanted to remove.

Tormy reacted to Old Bruce in Affinity Photo works very slow and unaccurate after update
You sure about that? Owning a license to install one piece of software doesn't mean you can break a law.
When I hear someone talk cavalierly about downloading and installing cracked software I always wonder "What else have they installed on their machine? Could that perhaps be the source of all the problems they are experiencing?"
-
Tormy reacted to VeganPete in Affinity Photo works very slow and unaccurate after update
No,downloading and installing a "cracked" copy of Affinity Photo isn't illegal. I own a license
Speaking of legality though - "Serif" took my money yet didn't provide the Professional service I paid for. There's an obvious irony and unfairness when cracked versions work perfectly, while the paid version kills my system (potentially causing hardware damage and loss of business). The legality of a software "contract" is mutually binding, it's not just a one-way clause.
Having said that, I know a lot of people frown upon cracking - especially when mentioning it on a forum - so you'll be happy to know I did download an older version and it's working perfectly - but why should I have to use an older version than the one I paid for?
All paid developers should fix their major bugs if they want to keep their existing customers, especially bugs which cause total system failure - completely unforgivable in a major full-price release and annoying when so-called forum guru's try to shame paying customers, while at the same time completely ignoring the software's shortcomings and genuine query.
Shame on you Serif, my money will be going to more passionate devs in the future. 😤
