  1. Ok. So I imported one photo that was lying around on my HD and that I haven't gotten around to burning on DVD yet and darktable creates an .xmp file which seems independent from the original file so I think it doesn't take hold of the photo itself. So according to my standards, it is safe for me to use as an image viewer/slideshow app :P The app seems to have image editing features but that will be handled by Affinity Photo and, when I needed something that AP can't do yet, I'll work on the file in Acorn. EDIT : Seems a bit clunky to use. I went to the « Slideshow » tab and since it's a full sized image (4752 × 3168 pixels) I only see a part of the photo in the window and can't see how I can shrink the image to fit... Guess I'll read up some more the user manual. Unbound was by far much more user-friendly to handle.
  2. Thanks for your reply. I read their user manual about the import thingy and they do not say if the files are duplicated or if they app only uses a kind of « alias » of the original file. I just might pick up the courage to try it out. ^_^
  3. Ooh ! I'm going to try this one! Evtonic3, can you tell me if it's a « container » type application of the same kind as Aperture or iPhoto once I import my photos in it ? It tells me when I launch it that I need to import my images... I'm not fond of container type applications, I'd rather keep control of my files.
  4. Yup. Got mine too and enjoying it so far. I'm still experimenting with it. Thank you again for your input. Cheers!
  5. I think the Mac App Store lets you reinstall an app after it was entirely deleted from your hard drive, yes? What I would do is use the freebie EasyFind from Devon Technologies (way better than Spotlight, AppZapper, etc. - you can find it in the Mac App Store here: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/easyfind/id411673888?mt=12)to get all the bits from Affinity, visible or not, into the trash and do a fresh reinstall of the app. The search criteria in EasyFind is pretty extensive so I think that manually you would be able to find hidden files and get rid of them. Of course, once the app is deleted, if the Mac App Store does NOT allow you to reinstall what you bought, there needs indeed to be another solution to this problem!... :) Edit: D'OH ! Once, again, MEB beats me to it! I'm really too slow on the reply button!
  6. Oh dear... They don't have a demo available anymore... Sorry about that :(
  7. Unbound for Mac? http://unboundformac.com I downloaded the demo a few months ago but didn't have the time to properly test it out. What I did see, I liked, but I don't know if you need something more hefty or if it suits your needs.
  8. No problem! Glad I can help! I'm just getting used to the applications myself, this was about the only question in the forums I can answer
  9. Yep, I simply double-clicked here: http://images57.fotki.com/v139/photos/5/2952655/12412563/cap2-vi.png and it opens the « Color Chooser » window.
  10. I did come across this article yesterday... :P http://www.informationweek.com/infrastructure/pc-and-servers/windows-10-upgrade-try-a-macbook/a/d-id/1321806
  11. Hello. Welcome to the forum. I get these values: http://images58.fotki.com/v132/photos/5/2952655/12412563/cap-vi.png I went into the colour palette, input at the bottom the hex code and clicked on « CMYK Sliders » in the dropdown menu. Are these the values you are looking for?
  12. You simply click on the Polygon Tool and at the top you'll see a box where you can input the number of sides you want in the shape you want to draw. Like so: http://images56.fotki.com/v362/photos/5/2952655/12412563/shape-vi.png Edit: Dang! MEB beat me to it! :D
  13. It sure did, ronnie! Thank you very much, I think I have clear picture now. As long as pressure sensitivity is fine, I guess that's all I need. I used to have many many MANY years ago a Wacom Intuos 2 tablet and the size of the thing made it very difficult to work with. If ever I buy the Huion, I will remember your advice about the drivers, for sure! Yeah, I know what you mean about buying hardware and seeing a newer product being introduced by the company days after the purchase. It makes you want to tear your hair out! Oh and by the way, I also want to thank you for your tutorials on your YouTube channel, it makes it so much easier to use AP and AD.
  14. Ok got it! Thanks so much once again, MattP! And you guys do fabulous stuff so keep up the awesome work! I am so totally thrilled about Affinity products. Ever since I've ditched Adobe products PS and Illustrator, I've been searching for replacements and I've finally found them!
  15. Thank you MattP for your input! Much appreciated. So, in your opinion, I would be ok with the Huion H610 Pro? Would I be getting the pressure and tilt features along with the sensitivity working well in AP and AD? I simply can't believe that for this difference in price, the Huion would give me the same thing as the Wacom that costs at least four times more: there has to be a trade-off somewhere, somehow.
  16. That's quite a difference in price, ronnie but that piece of hardware does look amazing! I've been meaning to ask you (or anyone else that has an opinion on this matter) about the Huion H610 Pro that you also have. How does it compare to the Wacom Intros Medium Pro (if you've tried it out)? There too there's quite a difference in price between the two graphics tablets and I've read here that the Wacom drivers are top notch but I'm not sure I'd be willing to shell out that amount of cash... unless the Huion has features that do not work properly. I think I read somewhere that the tilt and pressure is a bit wonky with the Huion? Anyway, I would be thankful for any input. Mind you, I am only a hobbyist, certainly not a professional, so I am not looking for the Best of the best but would like to have something that works well and does things as advertised. ^_^
  17. It can easily be done. Left-click once on an untouched original photo of yours to highlight it, then right-click it and from the drop-down that appears, select «Get info» from the list. A new window will open. In that window, select «Affinity Photo» from the drop-down menu in the «Open with:» section to change the application that will open files with the same file format in the future. That ought to do the trick. This is what the window looks like : http://images40.fotki.com/v1075/photos/5/2952655/12412563/example2-vi.png
  18. You shouldn't delete this topic, it might help someone else who has the same question, especially since you give pointers on how to solve the problem.
  19. As an aside to this ongoing conversation, I use Iridient Developer to convert my RAW files to .tif, then use another application to tweak them further and/or finalize them. I've been playing around in AP and loved it so much, I've bought it. From now on, I'm solely going to use AP to finalize my pictures but will keep using Iridient as the RAW converter.
  20. Salutations, Michel ! Tu serais gentil, merci !
  21. Oh my! That IS nice! Thank you evtonic3. But I realize I'll need some training to obtain the effect you got: even by importing your custom style, I am a billion light-years away from the same quality as your work. Mine looks like dull tin compared to your gorgeous result.
  22. YESSSSS ! I've just bought Affinity Photo in the App Store ! Thanks for all the great work, I love it ! :) *Big Thumbs UP*
