I can't believe the number of posts requesting Import/Export of ID files. They obviously know this is an important feature for us. They acknowledge that it is being worked on and even gave us a pretty positive response in terms of when we can expect to see the import part of it. I am scratching my head at the number of people acting disappointed... If InDesign is a critical part of your daily work and you require these very specific capabilities this product may not be a smart move for you to consider as it is in the beta phase of development.
The bottom line is you are no worse off today than you were prior to this beta being released. Keep paying Adobe for now... I'm pretty sure they will still take your subscription money.
I am finding the beta amazing. I have not done any print testing as yet. If this program can print what I layout as I expect it to be printed I am all done with Adobe. The only reason I didn't switch from InDesign is because of printing issues. InDesign is an amazing and complicated program. It took many years to get to the level it is at. Let us enjoy the beta journey instead of coming up with unrealistic demands of what it must do for us today. If you require InDesign accept it... That doesn't mean you can't enjoy the process of getting a replacement in the future.

I am very serious. Carrying over attributes, especially from Microsoft, to any other application can cause issues with your files. I've seen it too many times and ask designers not to use imported or copy/paste text from MS Word. These issues also occur in digital design when copying text from Word and pasting it into an HTML document. In print, your provider may be charging you additional money for fixes in your files due to attributes and you wouldn't know because it's considered as a hidden production charge.

Yes, the two are the same.  Grey and Master.  The difference is that we allow you to create a full curve.  Photoshop only allows you to define a black and white min/max range, forming a fixed trapezoid curve to 0 and 255 extents.  We allow for full custom control over the blend with a fully user-defined curve.
 
This feature went in recently.  We have just added PSD import/export for this feature too, which will be in a coming Beta.

I was curious about what the difference might be between the Gray option in PS and the Master option in AP so I did a simple test.  I stress that this is a simple test and does not allow for the more complicated use case you are dealing with.  Nonetheless, I concluded that, within the parameters of my test, the two options are essentially the same.  I'd be interested to know how your needs differ to try to isolate what the differences are between PS and AP.
