affinity designer not responding im a newbie help please

hi all im a novice with affinity designer I've just done the 1.9 update and I cant even do anything on it no matter what I click on its coming up NOT RESPONDING so I have to either close the programme or wait for programme to respond... what do I do????? apologies if this has been posted before or im posting in the wrong place im new to all this if anyone can help or point me in the right location for an answer it would be greatly appreciated thank you
