  1. I really appreciate your help! I am very grateful for that. Now the file is 41 MB and I will look if I can take off images here and there or things that are not essential...I think I am coming closer to the solution....Thanks a million
  2. Oh thanks, yes, in Designer, when clicking on an image, it showed the Image top left as Image DPI 300 Scale 133% , I suppose I can lower that, but I will have to apply it on all images individually......there is no tool where I can select all images....or?
  3. Thanks, I did what you suggested and indeed, in the layers panels are some (images) together with thousands of curves and ellipses etc. I am sorry I am a bit blond so I don't know what you mean by the NNN x NNN On the top left of the workspace do you mean Document Setup? I think in the Document setup I might to rearrange things. I see that the Dimentions are 6120 pt and 7920pt and the dpi 400....dpi should be 300 I guess. I also see that flattening is not the best thing to do..... I will try once again........I wasn't really up to rework all the files......thanks
  4. I think they are rasterised but not sure...to export "flattened" seems the only solutions so far but quality is lost.
  5. Hi guys, I once again need your assistance. I created a children’s book in Affinity designer, (34 pages), using many many layers of vectors and little highlights and shadows and clouds here and there in pixel persona in a full 21.59 x 27.94 cm) page. It looks all nice in the end, but when I export the document with the option: PDF for printing, one single page is as large as 626 MB. One page alone. Amazon KDP’s maximum upload is 650 MB for the entire book. So I have tried everything I could: to export it as JPEG, then to replace the JPEG on a new AD page and redo a PDF, but then the size is only reduced to 317 MB. Still far too big. I have then tried to flatten the PDF, but sometimes it doesn’t show the sky’s or clouds anymore and a sky without a sky and a cloud without a cloud is just not the same so yes it does loose quality but it seems to be the best solution I have tried so far. I first export it as flattened PDF (now 13.1 MB per page). Then I re-save the PDF as PDF /X printable file, as required by KDP. (13.6 MB) Is there another option I could choose from, to keep the quality, yet to get a smaller sized PDF? For Amazon KDP, it seems I am more or less okay with the size now with the flattened verisions. But for Ingram sparks Maximum upload size is 100 MB and I can’t figure it out, how I possibly could fit my heavily illustrated Childrens book into 100 MB…..any ideas? In this specific case, what can I do in order to get it print ready for Amazon KDP (650 MB) and especially for Ingram sparks (100 MB.) Is there anything to click or unclick in Affinity before exporting??? Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Bugiardini
  6. Thanks Medical Officer Bones, you are so right and I came to the same conclusion. To get a new iMac now, to invest so, so much and next year it’s surpassed by a new strong, powerful and innovative newcomer-miracle machine…is somehow a bizarre feeling. And for sure, upgrades and transition-protocols would spoil my day. You pay the price of a Mercedes, turn around once, and find out that now it’s worth a Tata Nano….. There will also be a new surface studio from Microsoft but also, only by the end of the year 2020. So I think that for my current needs, this “bridging solution” with the Envy 32, with i7, 16 or 32 GB, is just fine and now the summer sales are starting, so maybe I even can get it for a good deal. And then in 2021, if the world is still standing, I can see if the new IMac is still worth a try. Or if by then, an ultra-new Mac-mini 2021 can do the job… Thanks so much, your advice is highly appreciated! That really helped me a lot to make a choice. Fantastic Cheers
  7. Hi, thanks for your inspiring messages Slowly things unfold and my blurred vision gets clearer and clearer. Thanks Blende21, I was impressed and even touched reading your story. “Does it spark joy” will be my guiding light from now on, while searching for the right and for my needs adapted Instrument. I will definitely wait for the WWDC and also check out again all options and variations exposed here. The possibilities are endless. The real-life experiences of this creative and inspiring group here really helped me to forge an opinion of what could suit me best. Yes, 2ddpainter, I got the HP Pavilion 1 for more boringly and purely administrative purposes (Windows 8, Intel Core i5 CPU, 1.90 GHz). So when in the Affinity Designer I go to Personas and start to draw, the ventilation starts like a Boeing taking off to Paris and everything freezes and crashes down. But unfortunately I don’t land in Paris, but in front of the coffee machine, a little frustrated. I will keep the Pavilion for what I bought it for, but I will definitely go and fetch a new Creative Engine that gives me satisfaction and with which I am in sync. I don’t care about brand and labels but I care very much about sparkling joy. Thanks for all the helpful comments. Thanks to everyone.
  8. Thanks 2ddpainter, well that is what most people say....that it works smoothly on Mac.... I am working on an old HP Pavilion with Windows 8.1 and when I go into the Personas to draw, everything is crashing down but I also know that my present Computer is not made for graphic design. That is why I need a new Machine. I appreciate your comment and all comments here, as it really helped me to forge new ideas and understanding.
  9. Thanks Oval, I am thinking very green in everything I do in my daily life,....that is why, I often feel blue...but I don't think that I am so much greener if I am going to purchase a green Apple rather than a Pear, we still talk about manmade machines where profit making is number one, marketing and selling it with green arguments, number two....but I know what you mean and appreciate your comment, thanks really I appreciate
  10. I am so grateful for your answer. I forgot that Serif is working on the Windows version and that at some point, it may catch up the discrepancy, eventually. You look things from very different perspectives, which I hadn’t considered before and this gives me plenty of new material and new angles, for a good reflection. You definitely convinced me to wait until the WWDC 2020 announces their ground-breaking innovations. And then see from there. Yes, it doesn’t make it any easier and you keep the stimulation going, so just in that precise moment, I am unable to decide, but I have learned a whole lot more and things are getting clearer, thanks to the shared experiences in this forum. I also will check to see if I can test Affinity on a new IMac 27 somewhere, there is nothing like a real-life experience…. If I could, I would get both machines, but life is made of choices and at some point, with what I have learned now, I will be able to make the right decision, with surely a combination of gut feeling and upgraded technical knowledge from the great Affinity Forum....but first, for sure, I will need to sleep on it…. Thanks a million times Doc
  11. So true, but to work well with the Affinity Designer, a Wacom tablet and Publisher, if you were in my shoes, you would go for the IMac right?
  12. Thanks again and I admit, it gives me a little headache as I need to work well with Affinity and it seems, they work better on a Mac. I have worked on a Mac Book Pro from 2010 and it never quite convinced me, it heated up like a stove while simply using Skype ……I also did not like that my Iphone got slower after an update and their re-indexing just in order to whip and speed me up to run right to the Apple store to get their new device.…so I have a little problem with this mentality, It’s like a friend who plays tricks on you and always asks you for money, after a while you get tired. But I agree, the design of the IMac is sexy, attractive and it has certain technical advantages. And now we are in 2020 and like you say, a new Apple machine is coming out soon and things change, like people, sometimes for the good… On the other hand the Envy 32 is more generous with its technical components, but the Affinity Programs may freeze there too a little….I suppose…I guess...I imagine....I don't know... Hmmm I haven’t decided yet. Thanks guys
  13. Hi guys, thanks’ a million for the time you took, to narrow down my choice. Your answers are very helpful indeed and you cannot imagine how helpful this is, in this jungle of information and technical specifications out there. The conclusion so far: the IMac works very well with Affinity, thanks blende21 and affinitymakesmesmile but I would have to buy the 3 Affinity licences again, thanks Walt. And thanks to Medical Officer Bones, your answer definitely has flesh on the bones…this is great, so cool I will get through your answers carefully, once again, your arguments are very convincing and soon I will make a choice. Thanks from my heart Giuliano
  14. Hi there, I need a new Desktop Computer. Currently I work on a HP Pavilion with Windows 8.1, (not ideal I know) and of course the poor Computer designed to work well for typing letters and a little googling, is crashing down each time I start drawing. Working with the Vectors is fine. So things are getting urgent and I mainly work with Affinity Designer, a Wacom tablet (cintiq 16), Publisher and Photo (Children’s Books). Also a little bit with Clip Studio Paint. I hesitate between the new HP Envy 32 all in one and the IMac 27 5K retina. Their price is more or less similar. But what I would like to know is: 1) Are the Affinity Programs working better on an IMac? 2) Are the Affinity Programs working similar on Windows 10 pro, and an IMac? 3) Has anyone had the chance to work on both, the HP and the IMac? Some feedback would be great. What attracts me more by the HP Envy 32 is the blue light filter for my tired eyes and the media display by bang and olufsen as I always work with classical music. I know that does not sound very substantial, but little things like that can seduce me… So I would appreciate a feedback from someone who has the experience with both, not only in theory but also in practice. All I need is a good Machine who works well with all three Affinity Programs. With thanks in advance, cheers Giuliano
