  1. I have an additional comment to make about why templates may not show up as expected: make sure they are templates i.e. they have the *.aftemplate file extension (as R C-R mentions above). I recently bought and downloaded Emblem Graphic & Logo Templates by TheVectorLab from the Affinity Store, followed the instructions on how to load them into Affinity Design but was baffled when I couldn't see them in my Templates tab – I could see the folder they were in, but not the actual templates inside. Then I noticed that, unlike the other templates I'd previously installed that I could see, they were all *.afdesign files (i.e. Design documents). I wasn't sure whether just changing the *.afdesign to *.aftemplate would work, so being a belt-and-braces sort of guy, I opened each one up and then saved them as a template back into the same folder – there were only 24 files, and it gave me a chance to give them a good eye ball to see which ones to consider for further use. Hey presto, they all appeared in my templates tab and work like templates (i.e. they ask me to rename when I save them).
  2. This issue has not been addressed in Publisher 1.9.0 so I'm adding my name to the growing list. It really is a major fail in Publisher that you can't limit find (and replace) in this fundamental way, especially since InDesign has always had it (you can limit your searches to Story – i.e. linked text boxes) and, if I remember the dim, distant days aright, so did Quark Express. Having to create a new document just so you can get rid of all the superfluous paragraph breaks in an imported PDF document strikes me as counter to the Affinity ethos. If, using Personas, I can tidy up a pic in Photo or create some simple artwork in Designer without leaving my Publisher document, why do I have to leave that document (and create another one) to do a simple find and replace in one article?
  3. Thanks Garry P and Walt. I didn't really explain well what I meant, but I can see now that actually my question was about unexpected behaviour in Publisher compared with ID, which I've used for many years. With Preview set to Off, I see all the picture and text frames, gutters in text boxes etc, as I would see in ID working in Normal mode. What threw me was that as soon as I started typing in a text box, all those other frames would disappear, which I wasn't expecting (since they all remain visible in ID Normal mode). They all reappear when I click out of the text box I've been amending. I can certainly live with that – like the past, Publisher is another country and they do things differently there! I'm trying to get all my ID vs Publisher queries cleared up before I cancel my Adobe subscription and stick with the Affinity programs for good.
  4. Quick question: How do I make Publisher always show all the text box frames on a page I'm working on, even if I'm not working in that particular text box? I'm used to always seeing these frames in ID and – back in the day – QuarkExpress (showing my age!). In Publisher, when I start working in a text frame (say, the body text frame), all the other text box frames I've set up (headline, pic captions etc) disappear (not the text, just the frames). I'd like to see them. Probably something I missed in the tutorial vids... Enlightenment greatly received.
  5. Seneca: Thanks for your quick reply. That was exactly what has happened. I'm doing the Lynda.com/LinkedIn tutorials on Publisher, and somewhere they must have told me to enable Highlight all fields – but not to turn them off (or more likely, I missed the instruction to turn them off!). It's all OK now – including the word page number 10 showing up as 1. It's now 10 as it should be. I can't see how that's related Tony yellow box problem, but it's OK now. Many thanks for your help.
  6. I have recently ported a magazine I used to publish in ID to Affinity Publisher via IDML. I thought I had successfully done so, but today when I open the afpub file, all the page numbers now appear with a translucent yellowy/orange box over them, including on the master pages. One page of the magazine – page 10 – refuses to recognises its place in the order of things, and now shows itself as page 1, even though I have detached it, deleted the master page items and dropped the master page on to it again. Oddly, despite Page 10 calling itself Page 1, the subsequent pages continue on as expected: page 11, page 12 etc. What I can't fathom is that everything was fine when I closed the afpub file last night. Only today, when I opened it, did these problems occur. Thanks for any advice.
