jaizon got a reaction from Snapseed in Affinity Suite v2.0.4 on linux [ Wine ]
Thanks for clarifying. I actually found the exe downloads though and got it working. But, as of now, at least on my system, the installation in really unstable.

Yeah, I got that figured out later on Forums and could even install Photo V2, plus I got Photo V1 installed through Bottles and Now I'm making tests eand comparing both, to see which one performs the best.
Thank you for the reply!!!

First of all, thank you for all your effort to make it work. That said, I've been following your guide but I don't really have a .exe Affinty Photo file. The only thing I have is .msi. Would it still work?
Also, Bottle's version of Photo V1 works surprisingly well, it even recognizes my AMD GPU, although I can't really use hardware acceleration due the Windows 10 version being older than the recommended.
This is a screenshot of Photo V1 on Bottles

Blender is backed up by big companies, also, GIMP is a completely different story, it already has great tools and functionality but a really bad ui/ux.

Is there a way to update bottle's win version to the latest windows 10?

Sure, that's what most of us here are looking for, a good paid software to go to Linux so that we can get productive

It is not about being a missed market, going Linux just doesn't pay off, even though we keep saying that there's a lot of people using Linux, it can't even compare to MAC, for example.
On the other side, developing for Linux brings a lot of benefit, like stability and performance, but with some caveats, like Davinci Resolve not being able to use some codes, the most important ones tbh. But Resolve is another matter, as the company doesn't use it as a main source of income and more like an add-on for their gear!

That's probably your PC though. Usually installing latest Visual C++ packages solve those kind of errors.
You could try downloading and instilling x86 and x64 versions from here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

I didn't, I said we got it in the new update. I was listing the new features because someone said that there was nothing new in V2.
Also, Inkscape is one the best free software when it comes to open source stuff. But while in the vector space of the things we have Inkscape, and for photography we have RAW Therapee and Darktable, when it comes to image manipulation and high-end edits nothing comes close to the paid options. The only real option is GIMP, but it is a poorly-put-together swiss army knife, a literal mess.
And non-destructive RAW editing in AP is just a bonus, one of those nice things to have, especially because Serif doesn't have a LR alternative, so it is worth mentioning.

That's a strange statement. You are trying to "punish" a company for not doing something you wanted it to do but which it never said it would and that expressed in many situations it wouldn't? hum...

I don'y know hat you mean, we got build tool, linked assets, non-destructive raw edits, new live-filters, new masks based on color and luminosity, and the list goes on...
The fact that it is not installable on Linux sucks though, we were almost there. I hope there's a fix.

Same, though 40% off + Universal Licensing is already a great deal, though I won't be buying it lol
EDIT: it seems to be even cheaper if bought from MS Store

God bless your words my friend
Right now the only piece of software work focused missing on Linux is a graphic suit. We do have Inkscape that's in a good shape for vector but if I have to be honest, our raster editing is a mess.
Also, Scribus is not that good of a option for Publisher either.

Yeah, but Photoshop kinda works for years now, I guess versions before CC were already working, not sure though.
Affinity is pretty new to Linux overall, so it might still take a while for wine people get to it.
And the thread is salvageable, people just need to stop trying to tell the company what to do! I understand that you are buying their products but that gives you no right to meddle in high-risk decisions like this one. Sure we can ask and hope, but not diss them.

Right now, I don't even know what you are talking about! When was that, 2000?

Also, the only real issue we're having with Bottles right now is the flickering. As long as that's fixed, I'd consider it fully functional! A few hiccups, like window size and panels can't be dragged in (so if you drag out some of them, you're fu**ed)

Second that, the file should be pinned or something, if we can do that here, ofc.
Believe or not, until a few weeks ago this thread was fine, but all of a sudden all went to shit, and with just a few comments at that!

There's a talk of a way to run windows software with KVMs in a headless way but I'm to newb to mess with that. Also, that involves using a second graphics card for hardware passthrough

By the way, it does recognize my graphic card, but I can't enable computer acceleration, should I set it for WARP instead ? I can't enable hardware acceleration either way, but I remember seing someone in this thread talking aout it!
