Patrick Connor reacted to sorin.jurcut in My first AD/AP painting
I've gotta say I bought Paolo Limoncelli's DAUB brushes, and they were worth it. Love them to bits, love AP too, though it still feels sluggish with large images on a 16 GB Macbook pro, which isn't that awesome. But nevertheless, pretty cool !
Somehow though I feel as if AD's pixel persona is better at digital painting than AP's. Probably because AP has no eyedropper tool. Also, the alt-click colorpicker doesn't feel great at all... needs some polishing.

Anyways, bickering aside, here's what I managed to create. :) It's not really great, but I did learn some stuff doing it, since I didn't skip the initial "construction" phase of drawing lines and marking proportions. I'm trying to learn digital paiting for some time now, and somehow I've got problems because I always end up comparing myself with people who've been at it for years. It's stupid, but It's the only way I know how to scale, and because I think it helps me get better faster. The downside is that I always feel bad about what I do.

Great. Assuming you used two or more text boxes, add three lines of text in one text frame.

Um... I may be misunderstanding you, but we didn't use Designer to create the book. We used a dtp app PagePlus to make the book.
<Edit>Sorry, yes I understand what you meant now, that example is from the Designer book, my mistake </Edit>

I know Affinity Publisher needs multi-column, optical margin alignment and linked text frames, but I personally feel it's beyond the scope of Affinity Designer. Besides which it's not my call, I'm expressing informed opinion, like you.

I don't shoot many panoramas so perhaps this is the same problem I saw almost a year ago, but APB is failing to resolve some of my pano sequences. The MAS version has the same problem (for the same photos) although my normal pano software (Panorama Studio 2) has no problem with the photos.

In case any of the developed are interested the photos, both raw and tiff, can be found here.

Make sure you are clicking on the text of the panel's name & drag that laterally out of the Studio & it should work.

Thanks everyone!  Problem solved.  All one has to do is simply press the \ key to toggle between the views.

US keyboards do not have an Alt Gr key.  I've been using Windows keyboards since the days of DOS and have never seen one.

It looks like the Cmd key and the CTRL key are for the same functions for most things.   The Fn (function) key is to access special features on the very top row of keys (F1 through F12). . The basic Function keys are the same on all keyboards but for the special features on those keys, you have to press and hold the Fn key .

For example, the F5 key on all US keyboards will refresh a browser window. But the second feature, accessed by the FN key is different. On one keyboard, FN + F5 = Search. The FN + F5 = keys on my other keyboard is to increase my speaker sound and and on the laptop, it is to increase the brightness of the screen.

I did look at the View menu and tried several of the options right down to the split screen but somehow, did not try the last one. I simply didn't know what I was looking for so it was hard to find.  You can bet, I won't forget this one!

It is not being sold on Amazon.co.uk as we would prefer to sell it directly. Amazon can set their own prices and obviously take a big cut too.

Serif do NOT save your credit card details. We save the last 4 digits of the 16 you entered, and your name, but not the security number, and a tokenized version of the transaction. This is standard practice and it is not enough to do anything further with.

To give some background, all responsible merchants shouldn’t be storing credit card information for over half a decade now…instead they swapped to credit card tokenization where a token is stored but the credit card information no longer exists. Our order gateway is Stripe, who are fully PCI compliant. For PCI-DSS compliance since June (summer of 2010), most Merchants started the journey of not storing credit cards natively in their database, some store the last 4 digits and then may store a token that links to the accompanying payment information to the gateway processor. As the token is only undecipherable using a private Serif owned Stripe key, that token would be useless to anyone but Serif.

We have to store this token to show you the card that was used to place the order and for legal tax reasons. However we do not have to use offer that token for your next purchase. At the moment you can replace a card when placing your next order but not remove the used one from being offered again (i.e. "delete the key" outside of an order). I think it is a very sensible suggestion to add the option to remove that token from being available future purchases by you. Being a new shop we have had a few useful suggestions like this that we will implement.

I'm not personally bothered about money but I would like you to enjoy owning a copy of the book. Unfortunately this comment is probably pertinent to you too, as we have delivered to all the countries we are currently set up for with Amazon, our fulfilment centre.

The Guides Manager also accepts simple arithmetic operators & can be switched to display in percent. So you can do things like entering 100/3 & 200/3 in percent mode to divide the page into 3 sections.

Sorry but this is important to me. I know this feature has been requested before. But I have a reason to repeat this:

I love Affinity Designer. Except for its lack of brush smoothing that drives me crazy. Meaning: when drawing w/ a Wacom tablet, the strokes are all wiggly and wobbly. Can we fix this? I'm willing to do whatever it takes, so that people around the world using your product can have this feature. Hire me for $10/month to do this.

Autodesk Graphic (formerly iDraw) has it. Illustrator has it. Functioning brush tool is quite basic feature of a vector drawing program.

I know you have priorities. I know you can't do everything at once. I know you have an existing feature roadmap. But this feature has been requested time after time, starting from 2014. Please get it done. Again, if I need to work on it for free or for a coffee, I'm ready to do it. Let's get this done.

I'm 100% serious. Contact me anytime, and I'll jump working on this on a 24 hours notice. You have help. You have demand for this feature – guys, it's time. Let's get this feature on Affinity Designer.

    Waiting for your reply.

Patrick Connor reacted to Butler To Cats in Fill only works in Pixel Persona if you've drawn something first
    Hi Chris

Even though you are in Pixel Persona, you are still on a vector canvas, so no pixel operations.
However, you can add a pixel layer to the canvas without drawing anything, then your flood fill works as expected.

Patrick Connor reacted to Bri-Toon in Layer meaning
A curve is single path or shape. Anytime you draw a single line from the start, you create a curve.

A layer is what you can organize curves into. By default, only curves are shown. If you add a new layer, you can click and drag curves into them to keep them organized. The layer can then be collapsed and expanded. (You can also add layers inside layers.)

A clip is when curves are organized inside another curve (not a layer). This creates the ability to put objects inside another creating a window-like structure. Moving the window will move the objects along with it.

A mask is the done when cropping an object (as shown in your attachment with double thumbnails). It works similar to clipped objects because it also creates a window structure, but the window is what is movable. Anything inside does not leave position.

Well, it was the first of many things for my son:
first shot he sold. The artist saw it on our website and called in first poster project commissioned by the artist and first time he worked with Designer. For a 17 yo, not bad at all! … my only contribution is to post it here.

I agree entirely, but because they deliver it, it is in their system and therefore they "know about it" - and they link their book lists with libraries so that information and cover pictures can be shared, so I think it's just how it works. You disclose to Amazon that a book exists and they log it, in effect.

Patrick Connor reacted to Butler To Cats in Multiple Layers for each stroke using Affinity Designer's drawing tools
Hi Fahad, if you create a layer first before drawing, all new drawing objects are created within this layer until you add or select another layer. This also enables easy selection, control, and modifications of all objects in a layer.
Is this what you are looking for?
