Yes I think X-T2 support is already in the 1.5 Beta, I was going on the list in this post, which forgot to mention it.

I think these are the newly supported cameras over 1.4, but will have that other post checked.

    Hi all!

I've been using AD for 3 months now and all I could say is that it is amazing! One thing that made me fall in love with this app is the option to adjust the noise in an object; something that I always wanted to apply in my works (both personal and for work).

Here's one of that works that I've made recently for my niece's birthday. It's a vector trace of Tonari no Totoro's movie poster, and was printed as a cover of a birthday card.

I've just done some analysis on our startup time, and I can see some areas which could be improved. I might not have time to fix them before release, but I will do it at some point. In theory it should make it over twice as fast to start up...

Easier/faster means than cramping a lot of objects onto the art board in Illy, is to just use the art board tool in Illy to encompass your objects.

Perhaps, but in comparison to others who are reporting times of up to a minute, 12 seconds is not so long. If we can improve matters for them yours may reduce.

Personally I don't think that start-up time is the best way to judge software that's so good you don't want to stop using it ;)

Hey guys! So, up to this point I had been working within Affinity Photo. I originally did this because AP is advertised as the replacement for Photoshop. I made illustrations and concept art in Photoshop so AP seemed like the natural transition. Then after using AP and AD for sometime I started thinking to myself that I can do everything I do in AP in AD. I need the blend modes, brushes, layer nesting, layer effects and layer adjustments mostly. All these are in both AP and AD. My work does not need the photographic features for editing photos that are in AP. I also started thinking about what the intent by Serif for AP versus AD was. I concluded that they mostly intended for AD to be used for graphic design, UI/UX, and illustration and that AP was mainly for photography, photo editing and photo manipulation. So, I decided to try using AD for the same workflow I was doing in AP. I mostly work in the Pixel Persona for the type of work I do but I like having the option to pull in vector elements if I want to. The only thing in AP that I would use on occasion that is not in AD is some of the warping I can do in the Liquify Persona. Since it is easy to switch an open document between AD and AP I can use those features still. Once AP updates to 1.5 I'll have that ability back again. I hope this answers some of your questions :).

Why would the user want to see what he had selected rather than what he was trying to select?  That's too much like hunting for Apple's scroll bar which you can only see after you've found it.

Patrick Connor reacted to Mark Ingram in EXPORT TO does not work - freeze- please help (RC)
Hi, we've taken a look at the file, and the problem is caused by a dashed line style of 0.05 width which takes a long time to expand! If you change the offending line style, it will instantly export. We're going to add a fix which ignores small dashed styles like this, but in the mean time, just tweak the line style.

Did you import the file from somewhere else?

I have moved this post from the introduce yourself thread, which is less for questions like yours and more for statements of who you are, I hope this is ok.

We do not email the many thousands of users who signed up for the beta every time there is another patch for the Windows build. Instead we use another process. When you run the software it checks to see if you are running the latest version. If you aren't you are presented with a window like the one attached. Pressing "Download" actually always takes you to the beta forum. The top pinned post on the forum (currently this one) will have a statement that there is a new patch and contains a link to the download for the new build.

So now you know, you could come straight here instead, but the software is always monitoring on startup whether there is a new one or not.

You can't use an older beta version with a newer MAS version (nor is there any good reason to do so). If you want to test the current beta version, download & install it. It will replace the older beta & work along side the current MAS one.

The darker UI has been designed to be unobtrusive and allow designers to concentrate on the project itself. However there have been many passionate threads requesting a lighter UI particularly this one you are in.
As you have found, currently we don't have a light UI option but you can adjust the UI Gamma to make it a bit lighter. The option in preferences is really only there to correct for poor monitor black levels but it does work to a certain extent. You can tweak it going to Affinity Designer -> Preferences -> User Interface panel and adjusting the UI Gamma and the Background Gray Level sliders. [in the Mac version you can also change the size of user interface text in Preferences -> User Interface panel -> Font UI Size.]   The existing icons are designed to look good on a dark background. They all need reviewing and most need reworking for an alternate light interface. However the replacement of icons is not the majority of the work involved. Much time is taken reviewing and reprogramming all the bespoke UI for controls like sliders spin controls tabs indicators etc etc. It is all non-standard bespoke, not off the shelf from a third party. There is months of work unpicking each bit of our UI to redesign every one to look as good as it can.   Unfortunately the work to achieve this part of the process is completely independent on each operating system, so any control designed for Mac has an independent equivalent version on Windows. This also means that a lighter solution will most likely beta on one OS before the other.   We understand that it doesn't seem hard to make a light UI, but it is far from trivial or we would have done it already. Our stance is not stubbornness it's pragmatic about how long it takes to rework. We have not announced any date for this change. However, we are listening and working towards an optional lighter UI for our users.

Patrick Connor reacted to ms.fuentecilla in Affinity Designer is not Affinity Photo
It seems to me, from the way I have used DrawPlus and PhotoPlus for a few years that I must really wait until Affinity Photo arrives to fully enjoy Affinity Designer. It is and has for some time been a pleasure to combine those to create fascinating title graphics for videos and I really have no wish to transfer from Win10 to Mac. This comment is made with positive intent though it looks as though it will be some time yet before I can use these new programmes in that way. One reason is that it is now necessary to create textures in photo software to apply to graphics and text in Affinity Designer (which is normal for 3D software), whereas in DrawPlus they could often be manipulated within the software.

I do appreciate that this is a more sophisticated drawing programme but is way behind (extortionately expensive since losing academic status) Adobe products even so. Perhaps a bit negative.

It has been instructive and interesting to participate in the betas but I have found no serious difficulties on my PC other than slowness. However, my participation was limited because from July to October I was travelling extensively so was unable to really add much useful.

    ivanl,

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. :)
You are correct, 100% transparent objects cannot be selected with the move tool. This felt wrong to me particularly when it means that drag select and Cmd+A doesn't pick them up either.
I questioned this with the system architects and they confirmed that items that are not visible (check box in the layers panel) or 0% opaque (in the layers panel) will currently not select, though this wasn't fundamental, and was possible to change if a compelling reason was found. I couldn't think of one.
Although I think I agreed on the 'not visible' case, I was less convinced about the correct behaviour when transparent.
    What is your opinion please?

    Hi rebecca_school,
I'm having trouble replicating the crash with your file. I've downloaded the fonts you used and changed/edited all blocks of text but still no crash. I only have found a few redrawing issues which i'm reporting/logging. I will keep trying.

Meanwhile before uninstalling it you may want to try to reset it first, pressing and holding ctrl while launching the program then selecting all boxes and pressing Clear in the dialog that will open. Then try to open you document again and check if it still crashes.

No, you don't have to pay for the program again when you uninstall it. You can reinstall it from the Mac App Store whenever you want. Just make sure you are signed-in with the same Apple ID used to buy Affinity.
