Patrick Connor got a reaction from SrPx in Upcoming Beta 1.6 over Customer Beta 1.5.2.69
As you probably realise, there is no 1.6 Windows beta yet, but once it exists the 1.6.0.xx installer will uninstall 1.5.2.69 automatically for you (I strongly expect), so yes install 1.6.0.nn beta over 1.5.2.69 beta. However you can uninstall the beta yourself if you want to.

Affinity Designer for Windows 1.6.0 is now live (this is an older thread).
We are pleased to announce the second update for Affinity Designer for Windows (version 1.5.3).
The update can be downloaded from here. Once downloaded, close Affinity Designer and run (double click) the downloaded EXE to install it.
A list of the fixes this release contains is being prepared and will be posted shortly.
To install this version you will need to have the Affinity Designer for Windows already installed OR you will need to type in your email address and a valid Product key when prompted. When installing on top of an existing version you will not be prompted for the product key. If you need it you can find your product key (and a download button) in your Affinity store account, where you will also find the email address used to generate the key when you ordered the software.
If you have installed any previous customer beta version of Affinity Designer 1.5.3, that beta can be safely uninstalled before or after installing this release update, they are independent installs. The beta will stop working soon anyway.
Please report any problems you have installing or using this new version in the Windows forum here

Patrick Connor got a reaction from Adam in Can I sell my windows copies here?
Steve,
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.
When you buy the Affinity Store version (Windows) it makes a product key that is associated with your email address (the install expects them as a pair).
We do not have a way to transfer the license to another person as such, as we cannot make the product key work with a different email address, as one is encoded in the other.
The License agreement is non-transferable and you cannot just pass the software on to someone else. If you wish to sell it on then you will need to contact us and ask permission to to sell your product key and email address pair to someone else.
Separately (for the sake of other readers) it is worth saying that we cannot transfer a license from PC to Mac either or vice-versa, sorry

Patrick Connor reacted to Sean P in [AP Beta 1.5.2.66] - Corrupted .afphoto file by Beta
Hi AiDon,
The file isn't corrupted. You have a very small selection in your file (which isn't visible when the file is opened on Windows due to another bug). When you duplicate a layer and you have a selection, it will duplicate that area of the layer (instead of a whole layer). This is 'By Design' - if you go Select > Deselect you will be able to duplicate layers without a problem.

Patrick Connor reacted to Roberto1972 in Running 32 bit plugins in Affinity Photo
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that AlphaPlugins LaunchBox successfully allows you to run your good old 32 bit plugins from within Affinity Photo, which is 64 bit.
This also applies to Serif PhotoPlus (at least X8 works - which was my initial concern). Very affordable tool seeming to be the only practical way to still let you benefit from your precious otherwise trash banned 32 bit plugins!
After installation issues (see below) were solved I successfully ran 32 bit plugins on backgrounds, layers as well as on selections. Majority of plugins should work (including AlienSkin ones, yeaii!)
Installation:
• Execute the installer.
• Destination program folder: any folder you like (AlphaPlugins folder will be created in there, including program files).
• Manual plugin folder installation: choose your 64 bit plugins folder (AlphaPluginsBridge.8bf will be added there during installation).
• If your 64 bit plugins folder only has the 8bf added and no ini file then create the ini file manually: create text document named AlphaPluginsBridge.txt; change .txt extension to .ini
• In the manually created AlphaPluginsBridge.ini file add a single line: the path to where LaunchBox is installed (e.g. C:\Program Files\AlphaPlugins\AlphaPluginsLaunchBox.exe ) and save the file.
• Run Affinity Photo (from here I assume Affinity Photo already knows what your 64 bit plugins folder is)
• Open image, go to plugins menu, run AlphaPlugins - AlphaPlugins 32bit Bridge...
• AlphaPlugins LaunchBox will start: enter registration info or remain in trial mode
• In 'Properties' menu (remove the default plugin folder and) add your plugin folder(s) containing 32bit plugins.
• Select a plugin folder in this list and click OK (plugins will be loaded and main UI is shown)
• Open 'Filters' menu; select (32bit) plugin and click OK: from here everything behaves like running normal plugins
• When running AlphaPlugins 32bit Bridge... again from the plugins menu in Affinity then just go straight to the 'Filters' menu and select the plugin to be run.
(only when you want the Filters menu to show plugins from an other plugins folder you need to go to the Properties menu and select an other plugin folder).
Works like a charm so had to let know here :-)
Cheers,
Roberto

Patrick Connor got a reaction from Leigh in Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer connect at startup to crashes.seriflabs.com
neville,
The name of the server was chosen during the beta phase when we were particularly using it to monitor crashes, which we still do with the customer beta builds. However we have another service on there which tells the program the latest version so that the program can decide whether to tell you that there is an update available. Yes the server name is a little odd, but it is actually a call to check for updates to the software. It only passes Program name (designer or photo) operating system (currently only windows) and application type (release or trial or beta) that is all. The call is http and looks like this
Designer Release call
GET /appversion.php?product=designer&os=windows&apptype=release HTTP/1.1 Host: crashes.seriflabs.com Reply
HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Wed, 03 May 2017 12:27:06 GMT Server: Apache/2.4.6 (Amazon) PHP/5.4.23 X-Powered-By: PHP/5.4.23 Content-Length: 134 Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: application/json { "schema": 1, "version": { "major": "1", "minor": "5", "build": "2", "revision": "58" } } Photo Release call GET /appversion.php?product=photo&os=windows&apptype=release HTTP/1.1 Host: crashes.seriflabs.com Reply
HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Wed, 03 May 2017 12:28:46 GMT Server: Apache/2.4.6 (Amazon) PHP/5.4.23 X-Powered-By: PHP/5.4.23 Content-Length: 134 Keep-Alive: timeout=5, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Content-Type: application/json { "schema": 1, "version": { "major": "1", "minor": "5", "build": "1", "revision": "54" } }
So when we release an updated version the software will compare it's version to the 'latest' returned by crashes.seriflabs.com/appversion.php and display the option to the user to update. If the version returned by the server is the same as the software it displays nothing. The Windows store and Mac App store take care or updates for you, but we have to do this ourselves.

Patrick Connor got a reaction from Wzsuzsi in Affinity Store Account Creation And Order/license Queries
The relevant section of the license agreement is précised here https://affinity.store/help. It basically says that for your own use you can install it on any number of computers (that you control) OR you can install it on one single computer for any number of people to use. This is for personal or commercial use. We hope you do sell the graphics made with it :)
We will shortly have the full (English) license agreement available online. I will edit the first post in this thread when we have that online.
