just updated to latest V2 2.03 update on MAC M1 running montery... I have restarted, re installed.... but it crashes instantly when I open resources manager... Practically unuable now.... wish I had not updated as it was working fine. Also it has not been playing nice with linked .psd files.... I have to convert to affdesigner files or export as .png/.jpg.... .psd not turning up in exports... seems very buggy right now.

While I REALLY LOVE the work flow of affinity with publisher, I have run into a BIG problem that might force me back to Adobe.
I produce children's books, and I need print and ebook versions. The print is a dream, no problem, but I need to output each page as a jpeg (or png), and assemble as a word file for ebook conversion.
This worked well in indesign. I could take my 300dpi print lay up, and export it EASILY as individual page lower dpi, mid resolution jpegs to make the ebook mockup in word....BUT in publisher, there appears to be NO WAY to easily do this,... every page requires major fiddly selections like current page, pixel resolution, (unlike indesign that remembers my last settings each time I export), and I have to go an physically select each page in the page menu as well as selecting current page in export mode (indesign export you can just type in the page number)... I have not figured out how it works with the document setting to get the resolution I want, or if I need to do each page individually in the export panel... It is a bit of a nightmare scenario.
BUT BY FAR THE BIGGEST ISSUE is the FILE SIZE!!!! What is going on with this??? Even if I could easily export each page, at the required resolution... (which would be a 150 dpi jpeg or png file 1500 x 1200), it comes out anywhere from 4 to 10 times the file size. THIS IS A DEAL BREAKER.... Amazon charges 12cents a meg for ebook downloads, so that is just not going to fly. Files that indesign exports at 130-300k, end up being 800k-3meg out of publisher. I have read the forums, and tried linking instead of embedding, but it makes no difference. Given the cost per meg, over thousands of downloads, you can see that this is not something I can ignore.I LOVE AFFINITY, so if anyone can help me, please, please I don't want to go back.... I love doing all the colour grading and tweaks in one document switching between programs... but it is all for nothing if it takes me ten times longer to export the ebooks and the files I end up with are so large they kill my business model.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

The selection tool, and specifically the lack of this feature drives me insane, and keeps me wedded to photoshop. For my specific workflow the selection tool is just USLESS, and really totally awful... I love affinity, and have bought 3 copies for other people, BUT the selection brush is serious issue.... I often need to spot edit colours, and it just takes an insanely long time to select a region..... I am talking like up to 10mins of faffing around that only takes one click in photoshop.... When you need to do this 20 times in one day, well you can see the problem,... it is just not viable to use affinity.......

I publish and design kids books and the integrated suite is AMAZING, ad I LOVE designer ... BUT the selection tool is just nuts.... I often have to select and adjust a single colour in an illustration, but there is no way to refine the selection tool easily... and CHANGING THE BRUSH SIZE doesn't work, the refine edges feature is insanely fiddly and time consuming... (and it doesn't always work properly) but the selection brush NEVER snaps to the edge properly without using it.... every so often I think I must be missing something and go searching for videos on how to do it easily.... but in the end I have just wasted and hour and go back to do it in photoshop....
I am begging for this feature... and I would happily move all my illustrators, lay up and editing onto affinity, but at the moment it would simply cost me 20 times the cost of an Adobe subscription in wasted time.... If you wan't professionals to use you, you cannot be wasting that much of our time.
You just cannot select a colour range region without a lot of stuffing about... with photoshop I can do it in 1 or 2 clicks... yesterday I was trying to select a graduated area of a green in a plant... it had a thin white line from another element through it... I tried to select the just green in AP for about 20 mins, and I just couldn't do it, no matter how hard I tried... it kept including the white line, and spilling over into the brown around it..... I could fix the spill into the brown with a fair bit of stuffing about, but short of ruducing the brush down to almost single pixel by pixel I could not get it not select the white....I so wanted to do this AP, but it would have taken me maybe 45 mins to just make the selection I wanted in AP. AS always I ended up in PS and did it in 2 clicks.....I keep adobe for this one feature, and it annoys me as I have to jump out of the most beautiful streamlined workflow I have ever had to do this one task.... I would make you a screenshot video, to show you how useless the selection tool is for the task I need, and how easy photoshop it..... but please I am begging you... a tolerance or sensitivity feature and I will buy more copies...., and champion your world domination.
Also as an aside, does your software work in Chinese??? I would love my print house to have you on site...

Some files open OK, but as soon as I try to do anything they crash. I have already recreated files in designer, but I am loath to recreate a 26 page doc... Anyone got any ideas. It is not all my files, just some of them.
To be honest I have had this in Designer too since the update.
I had a misalignment on the text... I can move it with drag, but as soon as I use the arrow keys, it's curtains... this is typical of the type of problem I have been having.. sometimes they programs crash the first thing I try to do, sometimes I can do one or two things then the spinning rainbow ball of death!!

small stuff, but seriously how many people export spreads... no one who is printing?
or at least make it so it remembers your preference, like it remembers your PDF preferences.I keep forgetting and have to export multiple times.

Thank you, that is definitely more helpful, however I have tried that... I have enlarged the art board to a ridiculous size, and it still keeps happening.... even with new object created on the actual art board with no overlap. It is happening with every item in the layers panel. It feels like once you have moved one item off the art board, you will never be able to get anything to stay in order ever again.

I started this thread because the answer is NOT there.... and I don't know if you monitor such old posts....
So... to be clear, Nothing is off the art board. I even created a whole lot new items and they did it too.. -
Affinity Designer is great BUT I want to batter my head against a wall... The forum says it should not do this, unless you have stuff from outside the art board that you are dragging onto the art board.
BUT IT IS DOING IT! It doesn't matter what or where I try to move something it is doing it. How do I stop this? It makes it impossible to use this software. No matter what I do, every time I move something it moves to the front. I am on Mac,,,, and I can't stop it... I am desperate for help. ...

How do you actually use the magic wand, or brush selector... I have hollow text that I have converted to curves, and I am trying to select the white bits to infill... the brush selector in photoshop would just select the white and the whole task would take less than a minute.... THIS IS A NIGHTMARE.... the brush keeps falling over into the black outlines, and it won't just select the whole white part, I have to keep scrolling around with it..... I have been at for 15 mins and still can't make it work... If there is no way to just select a colour and specify a tolerance then affinity is bust as far as I am concerned... Please help

I ended up deleting all the linked psd files and "placing" them back as .png's bit of a pain in the butt, as the image files are still being worked on so linked files that are editable would be the preferred workflow, but at least I can actually move forward without redoing the entire document.... I suspect the .psd files were crashing the resource manager, and they were on an external drive... these were also the files not turning up on the pdf export.
