I too love the idea of the Astrophotography Remove Background filter but I am finding it struggles with some more complex gradients I experience at my location. Further tips in addition to James' tutorials would be great.

@stokerg I have unchecked Enable OpenCL and seems to run now. However I have also noticed that on opening a file (eg a large Tiff) it shows as "Loading one Document" in top right corner but never completes and when I try to quit Affinity I get a message to say wait for files to load before quitting . Then I have to go to Task Manager to End Task. (The tif file opens fine in GIMP but was previously created from within Affinity)

Similar issue. Updated to v1.9. I can open files (tif and jpg) but as soon as I start to do anything (eg layer adjustments) I get Not Responding and forced to close the app.
