  1. I have a similar issue. On my iMac it boots Publisher automatically. There is nothing under advanced options that I can see for Affinity. Given the iMac's noxious approach to intuition it just does what it wants and provides no answers. In any case this really down to Affinity as the program should easily allow me to change the setting.
  2. Yes that is understood BUT 1) This was not necessary in Adobe InDesign, Pagemaker, etc unless I move it! 2) When I save a file in AFFINITY PUBLISHER I have reopened and found items like text columns and images moved quite noticeably from where I placed them. As a result I lock them which should be unnecessary since no worthy layout and design program should have things moving after saving and reopening. For instance I am working on a book using two columns with plenty of images. In most cases I tend to line up pictures and columns in guides either within a column, spread across like say a half page etc., as the images vary in aspect and/or shape. 3) The results are that I will reopen the file and they will shift away from where they were saved. 4) Locking adds a what should be unnecessary step when changes need to made but even that is not successful. 5) to fully exacerbate the project the images unlike themselves after saving and reopening and what remains is a blurry version of same. This then requires deleting the unlinked blurred version and replacing the image as attempts to relink do not work. And the need for relinking is a flaw and should not be necessary.
  3. I don't know what it's supposed to do!! I assumed once something is locked you cannot change it until it is unlocked. The problem is it while the image seems unchanged except when it goes blurry (see below) now it moves after a save to somewhere else on the page. This makes the idea of layout ridiculous. Back in the days when I use to do physical layout and I pasted something in place to be sent to the printer it stayed where I put it. (Yeah I am an old guy!). One can't use I have layouts with combinations of text and images. I save the document open it up and things have moved. First of all this should not happen under any circumstances with any program!! I should have to anything more than place an item in the document and it should stay where it was placed. I have used a number of programs and done layout for small newsletters for galleries and music programs as well as posters. I have used several graphic programs over the years including Corel Draw, Pagemaker, Indesign, etc. and this never happened with them. This is a regular occurrence and I am working on a project with mostly images and some text and I am constantly moving things back into place even after "locking" whatever that means. Noe in addition images go blurry. Usually over time, several minutes they appear normal but some seem to stay that way.
  4. I am on Mac, thanks for the prompt reply.
  5. Looking at the thread I am wondering if the way I described my problem lacked clarity. I am working on a large document, a book which combines images with text. The images and text blocks vary in size on each page. There are guidelines set up to show where text and images can be placed as in any standard illustrated book. That is, you have a common white space and all text and images should not move outside this area into the white space. also there are page headers (with title and section) and page numbers, in this case centred below the bottom of the text/image block. This all should be straight forward with these elements set on master pages as they would be in Indesign or Pagemaker or Word. The problem then is that everything seems fine when I work on the page or print it and so I save it. The next time I open the same document it is not as saved! Text blocks have moved and are not centred on the page and/or have shifted above or below my guides foe top and bottom white space. So if I was doing a book, a magazine or a newspaper the layout would not be centred upon printing. Even when I "lock" items they still move when re-opened. So I have redo the same work of aligning images over and over again with no hope of a final stable product.
  6. Thank you for your attempts to help me. In the past when I was more active in graphic design I used Corel Draw and then latter Adobe products and some other software. I have never had this problem with any other software!! I cannot see how this is anything other than a serious flaw. It would be like a word processor that took a verb and stuck it at the end of a sentence after you saved it.
  7. So! How to do you really lock a layer which you do not want to be moved or changed until you decided it needs to be changed?????
  8. I have absolutely no luck with locking layer. It makes me wonder if my understanding of what it is supposed to accomplish is what I think. Let's go back to the beginning. First I used Adobe programs. This became too expensive as a rental for a non-professional like myself, especially after I closed my main business. At the time the cost was incurred when you bought it, not a rental fee. The small projects I do are not money makers. I switched to Affinity because the cost was more reasonable. Now to the problem: If I save a document and reopen in Designer items will move from where I placed them. I am working on a large document and this is infuriating. Now there is this locking function but it seems useless. If a page element is locked I cannot edit it. My only option is to unlock all. When I do that what appears to happen is that everything in this rather long document is unlocked. There is no other option here. Do I really have to go though the whole document some 100 pages and re-lock every element? Every time I want to make a minot change? First of all it seems inane that if I leave elements unlocked and reopen the document a day later many items are now shifted from where I placed them. Pardon me but this seems unless. Almost every page of my 160 page document now needs adjusting. Going back to Pagemaker I have never encountered such an annoying flaw. As it stands it seems like every time I want make a change on one page I am now required to go over may whole document of 154 pages seeing what was unlocked and now moved. If you place something in Word and save it and come back things are where they were when you save it and this was certainly the case when I used Pagemaker and Adobe.
  9. Every time I save my book project and then reopen text frames move. They move so the text box does not align with the text frame. This is very frustrating.
  10. OK I will see if I can get you a screen shot. I am not certain on the answers to your specific questions. So far it seems likely overnight because I usually work on the project in spurts and leave it open while I do other things. This is not a commercial project, it's a personal one. In the past I used Indesign to design catalogues and updates for a music business I had as well as designing some books and the various printed parts of CDs I sell. The last of these were done with Indesign so I am pretty much a novice with Affinity and somewhat rusty overall as projects these days are few and far between as I am retired.
  11. I have placed guides where text boxes and images are placed. Everyday when I open the document i saved yesterday, text boxes and images are shifted all over my document. What's goiing on?
  12. Oh lovely its now in full screen and I cannot escape, is there a command to get out of full screen, ESC does not work though it should.
  13. I will post on this when I can reproduce the problem.
  14. Publisher As I work on a document I am experiencing random changes in font size. I set the size to 14 point. Its hard to pinpoint when this will happen but it occurs suddenly when I delete a space or add one the font which is 14 pt. Suddenly the next or previous paragraph will become either 1.4 point or 140 point. It is happening with a fair amount of consistency. The text I am using is imported from Mac Pages. It happens from cutting and pasting text and on new text written into the document. One thing that does trigger it though not consistently is when i delete a space or insert one.
