Thanks for the response @DM1. This was enough to push me over the line. They are still half-price, or 2 for 1, and at $15 isn't breaking the bank to satisfy my curiosity.

I'm looking for some suggestions on what tools and workflows would suit what I'm trying to achieve and my interests. What I'm most interested in is tracing old works, sketching and colouring and am thinking that Designer may be the application that would best suit my interests. I'm keen to take a draft sketch to a final paint and then be able to play around with the layers. A big part of my motivation is that I've recently purchased a new iPad Pro with Pencil and I'd like to get the most out of it. I have purchased Photo iPad version thinking that it would be the most versatile tool but after reading about Designers Pencil tool I think it may be the tool I'm most interested in. Firstly because it creates editable paths and second because it may allow me to show off the Apple Pencil tool versatality to the kids 😁 But then I'm not sure if Designers painting and colouring tools are as diverse as Photo. It's been a few years since I was doing design work and it's going to take me some time to familiarise myself with the tools and am feeling a bit overwhelmed with choice.
