  1. I'm with the people that want Publisher to have text format output options. I've created five books in Publisher and it's my go-to publishing tool, BUT for this project I want to do a Kindle reflowable edition and need a doc, docx or rtf file. I was actually shocked to find that NO CAN DO in Publisher. Would this be so hard? What's the problem? If I have to switch to another app -- meaning I have to export all my text via copy and paste -- then next time I won't bother with Publisher at all.
  2. Good to know that the problem was connected to the TOC. I found that after an initial crash, reopening the file and saving it again was usually successful. No idea why. I speculated that it had to do with the length of the file, > 2GB, but don't really know.
  3. In 1.8.5.703 running Win 10 x64, the Layers panel (View|Studio|Layers) will not expand downward. It will expand sideways but not down. As a result I can only see one item in the Layers list and that not completely, and some operations like attaching or detaching Master pages are out of reach. Generally the panel is useless in this condition.
  4. Ditto here. Publisher crashed on saves repeatedly. This occurred with large files (>1GB) where major portions had been deleted. Files were not corrupted but a salvage file was created, which was reassuring but not necessary. I would have preferred the program not to crash after a save, obviously.
  5. The "Go to Page" dialog under the Document menu item goes to the absolute page, disregarding page numbering by sections. So in my book the first two pages have no numbers on them, the next 8 pages have Roman numerals, and the book body pages have Arabic numerals beginning with 1. So if I want to use "Go to Page" in the Document menu to go to the numbered page 10 of my book, I have to tell "Go to Page" to go to page 20. That needs improvement. For example, "Go to Page" could have a dropdown showing the different sections.
  6. One more.
  7. In the final Index output, I can get rid of the bad line breaks at the hyphens by unchecking "Group page ranges" in the Index Panel Options dialog. But I can't seem to get rid of the bad line breaks in the middle of a three-digit number. And I can't prevent a page number listing from breaking across pages. The "Flow" options in the Paragraph panel for the Index Entry style doesn't have any effect that I can see on page number listings. This book is scheduled to go to press in ten days. It would be lovely to have a solution to these formatting issues for the final index output before then. The rest of the index bugs I've worked around as best as possible and can wait.
  8. Also note that the page listing inserts a line break at every hyphen, so that a page listing such as 612-614 which could very well run on the same line gets broken like 612-|614 where the vertical bar represents a line break. Sad.
  9. It's the parentheses! Asking Publisher Index Panel to Find in document the index topic "Works Progress Administration (WPA)" crashes Publisher even though there is no separate "WPA" index item, see bug reports above. Same result with brackets instead of parentheses. But "Works Progress Administration -- WPA" works. Index Panel Find in document can't handle parentheses in the topic string. That's pathetic. Sorry.
  10. And another one. The document contains the string "West Berkeley Neighborhood Development Corporation" at p. 243. It is marked as an index entry. The Index Panel shows "West Berkeley Neighborhood Development Corporation" as the index topic. But the listing underneath says "243 West Berkeley Neighborhood Development" -- leaving out the last word, "Corporation." And asking Publisher to find the index topic in the document crashes Publisher. What is going on???
  11. And another strange one. The document contains the text string "University Professional and Technical Employees Union" at p. 674. It is marked for index. The Index Panel correctly shows the topic, "University Professional and Technical Employees Union." But listed beneath that is "674 University Professional and Technical Employees" with the last word, "Union," missing. And a right click on the topic, followed by "Find in document," crashes Publisher. I've tried deleting the string, the index entry, and the topic, and rebuilding from scratch, always with the same result. Publisher won't write the word "Union" and crashes if asked to find the topic in the document. WTF???
  12. Another weird Index issue. The string "U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service" exists in the document at p. 283 and is marked as an index item. The Index Panel correctly shows the topic "U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service" with one instance at p. 283. See first screen clip below. But when asked to "Find in document," Publisher shows a blank, no instances of that string found, see second screen clip below. WTF??
