Ami_M reacted to MEB in Selection to Mask - Image Retains Border
    Hi @Ami_M,
These issues are caused by masks edges. You can either clip the whole images inside a bit smaller rectangle (than the image) with no fill to hide/clip the edges (where applicable) or fix the mask's edges directly as shown in the clip below:

    Hi there,
It would be great to have an option to hide the artboard names (temporarily). Currently I'm in the process of designing some icons. To evaluate the design properly, I need to see them at 100%. But if I do, the artboard names clutter the view, see screenshot.
I've also posted this in the forum.
One of the staff suggested to post it as a feature request also.
    Thanks!

You can let the app do the mathematics for you! For the 14 segments shown in the OP you could specify the number of degrees as 360/14 to keep everything as precise as possible.

Or you can do this on PDF export under "More" >> "Embed fonts" >> "Text as Curves". Advantage is, that the document is still editable, but not inside the PDF.

Draw your curve. Duplicate it a number of times. Select all the copies. Layer > Geometry > Merge Curves. Add text to path. Use the handles to limit the text to the top of the path. The attached file has history saved, so you can step through what I did.

Worth noting that the curves remain editable, so you can add / remove lines as needed, and reshape.

Oops. Forgot I was testing the 1.9 beta.
Here is a version for 1.8
However, this version seems to leave one letter on the preceding line, no matter where I put the handles...?
A bug that has been fixed in 1.9 perhaps.

Ami_M reacted to GarryP in Affinity designer lacks key tools for logo design
It’s worth noting – in case it’s not apparent – that I do not work for Serif and have no affiliation with them; I’m just a user of their software.
I understand that these tools you have requested are used by many people for many reasons in other software but I am trying to push the discussion in a direction which might be more interesting than merely a request to make the Affinity applications more like other software that already exists.
The tools that exist in other software have evolved over time – sometimes decades – from their original forms and may not now be the best way to do what users want to do. While the tools in other software have changed over time they have had to change in ways that the existing user base could adapt to without too much difficulty. By doing this the other software may have necessarily grown in ways that may not be as beneficial to the user as it could otherwise be. For example, how many tools have loads of different modifier key combinations, each of which does something a little differently, just to add functionality piece-by-piece?
When Serif started developing the Affinity range from scratch it gave them a chance to look at everything afresh and choose to do things differently if doing so allowed more/better functionality than existed previously.
For instance, take the idea of creating logos. What would it be like if you could hold your logo in your hands? What sort of things would you like to be able to do with it? What if you could stretch it like it was on a rubber sheet? What if you could fold it up in different ways? What if you could remove parts according to geometry rather than appearance? Try to think about what tools you would need to do the things you want to do rather than what tools you were used to using.
Just because other software has specific tools that do specific things doesn’t mean that the Affinity applications should also have them and make them do the same things simply because that’s what some users are used to. While the Affinity applications are still young there is still a chance to give users better functionality by breaking away from the old ways of doing things.
If you want to use the tools available in other software then you are quite welcome to use that other software; the tools are there and they do what they do. However, the Affinity applications can do things differently, and better, if we give the developers time to work out how to give us better ways to do things.

Your multi PDF request sounds so weird that I checked mixam's site – and it appears to be possibly a misunderstanding of yours.
Here it literally says "You can supply your files in a way that suits you" ... "as a single combined file":

I assume "single" + "combined" means: All pages included in /combined into only 1 single PDF.

Hi @Ami_M, if you have Designer you could export the PDF from Publisher, then open that PDF in Designer, go to the Export Persona, set your PDF export settings, select all the layers and then create slice, move to the slices tab and then export. I have just done a very quick test and it seemed to work fine but I am not sending to a printer 😀

Are you on MacOS or Windows @Ami_M? If MacOS, it's possible (and fast, and relatively easy) to split multi-page pdfs into singles using Automator. Post back if you're interested.
(I've worked on single-page upload systems and they work brilliantly for the printer, but not always for the publisher...)
    Cheers,

Because I'm a horrible person using a non-local independent printer! 😂 Work stipulates I have to use Mixam for the books we produce and they have an upload system which wants single-page PDFs, and also when I send the print files to other companies they prefer having the single pages too. It's a boring job, but at least I get to design every day!

I'm not a part of the 'Adobe Family' in any way haha!
I think I will have to talk to my printer (company) about files going forward as exporting single pages is taking ages!
    Thank you 😄

@Ami_M Maybe you are "lucky" to own Adobe Acrobat Pro (or similar application). With Acrobat Pro you can extract the multipage PDF to single page PDFs. If "my printer" is not a physical device, but a company, you could ask them to do this for you.

I don’t think there is a way to do this as you would need some method of specifying the different file names for each separate PDF.
(I also did a quick check to see if I could use the Designer Export Persona - rather than Publisher - to do something similar but I couldn’t get what I wanted.)
I may be wrong though so keep checking back in case anyone has better knowledge.

This might help you out a bit, I cropped out the white space in the frame (from the image) and placed it in a couple of Master Pages so it is centred.
There are two linked Text Frames on the Master Page 'Border and Text' and just the Border in the 'Border Only' Master page. You can apply them to what ever pages you want to apply them to, I included 8 pages.

It would work if you reset the bounding box's rotation, wouldn't it? Just select it and Add it to itself (I'm away from my computer, but that might be Layer > Geometry > Add, or the Add icon on the Toolbar.)
