hape13 reacted to Old Bruce in how to copy size and location of one layer to another?
From the beginning of my use of Photo and Designer and finally Publisher I have lamented the lack of a Paste Replace which would replace the selected item(s) or a Paste Here using the mouse's context menu click as a location. It is a huge time saver.

hape13 reacted to Pete123 in Search, find or filter layer name
I often need to work with documents that have an unhealthy amount of layers.
A fast way to search a certain layer by it's name would really help.
Now I need to review the complete layer list over and over again, sometimes missing the layer, starting over etc...
This is actually the only feature I miss from Photoshop.

I know there is a feature where you can click objects and have the layer selected, but that does not help me because most layers I need to find are not visible.

I'm not sure if this will explain it, @hape13, but perhaps it will.
Designer offers several View Modes, which you can access via View > View Mode in the Menu. Of most importance for this discussion are two of them, Vector and Pixel. Photo offers only the Pixel mode.
Try switching Designer from Vector to Pixel and see if it looks like Photo does. Or try the mixed mode to compare both directly.

You've to try, if inside the group then merging (aka merge to visable) the adjustment layers together with the image would possibly solve that problem.
    Happy Easter to you too!

    Hi Dan,
didn't have the chance to follow up yesterday.
Thanks so much for this awesome support. This helps a lot! Highly appreciated.
I'll work that out as you recommended as soon as I have the chance.

    Hi Dan,
thanks so much for your reply, your idea and your offer. I really appreciate it! Unfortunately I just started a one way business trip yesterday. I am not sure if and when I have the time to follow up with your idea or offer.
I just wanted to let you know in between. I'll definitely will come back to this topic at least the week after the next.
    Thanks again!
    Cheers,

Hi, Are there any plans to include an option to Place an EXCEL table in a Publisher document? If possible it should have an option to link to the EXCEL file so that if that file is modified in EXCEL the changes will also appear in the linked table in the Publisher document.

I have produced a pdf version of the Affinity Photo manual that you can read without starting the program. It can be interesting to put it on your phone or tablet to read when you have some time to spare. Since the file is too big to upload here, I have put it on Dropbox for you to download. It is current for the last version of Affinity Photo. Comments welcomed. Here is the link:

hape13 reacted to MEB in how to do transparent work in Affinity Photo?
    Hi hape13

    Regarding the transparent background:
In Affinity Designer, when you open a PDF, you can set its background to transparent going to the Colour section in the Document Setup... dialog (File ▹ Document Setup...) and checking Transparent background. You should then be able to see which objects are transparent and which are not. This option is not available in Affinity Photo.
The Erase White Paper is a filter to remove the white from raster layers. It doesn't work with vector objects.

Regarding selecting and deleting objects from a PDF:
If the elements on the PDF are vector objects (paths and shapes) you should be able to select and delete them directly with the Move tool. Simply click on them (or draw a selection marquee around them) and press delete. If they are overlapping other background shapes press and hold ⌥ (option/alt) before starting drawing a marquee. This will avoid to select the background shape.
If you are having trouble selecting a particular object/shape you can "force" select it, pressing and holding ⌘ (cmd) while clicking on it.

Sometimes, depending on how the file was structured originally, there may be various objects nested inside groups and layers. In that case it may be easier to select them directly in the Layers panel. If you press and hold ⌘ (cmd) while clicking on them in the Layers panel you can select several at once for deleting.

Without seeing a specific example it's difficult to be objective on what may be the best approach.
The Help documentation have a section just for selecting objects. You can find it in Affinity Designer Help ▹ Object Control ▹ Selecting objects.
    Hope this helps a little.

    Hi Alex,

this is really amazing. I didn't think about the layer clipping possibilities. It's so easy and looks great.

So thanks again for your kind and really quick answer and help.

    All the best,

Thanks again, Alex. Very good ideas. My problem was that I began the wrong way by mistake and spent lots of time painting single curves to match an existing pattern. This was also a good way practicing with bezier curves. So I don't wanted to start from zero.  ;) In this case your idea joining curves was my best choice and helped really a lot.

Here is a small preview, just for demo purposes.

Next time I'll start with pretty much better knowledge. Thanks for your time and the videos.

    Have a nice evening,

    You’re welcome, hp …  :)

Here’s another idea. Perhaps you should start with a mesh-like structure (to introduce some of these typical irregularities to be found in puzzle pieces) and apply the technique outlined in post #5. Please have a look at the video below. I am well aware that this method does not always result in beautiful curves, but you might give it a try … sorry for showing all the repetitive tasks in the video. (And perhaps some of the triangles should be flipped …)

    Cheers, Alex  :)
