ADRs got a reaction from Grant Robertson in Why I like reading software manuals in .PDF form:
And fortunately, Serif have Affinity Publisher, so the PDF should be good if the software itself is good.
I agree with this, and by looking at the manual they published, i would know that if it is a really good "user manual", or only a developer "feature documentation".
sometimes i really hate it if i read some "user manual" that feel like it just a documentation that didn't help at all but labeled as user manual😞.
most of the open-source software i used have tendency to write like a developer documentation rather than aimed at user (and i can understand why). But if it is a paid product, a good user manual is a must IMO.
I remember the first time i try learn about electronic music gear, it is a steep learning curve but fortunately most of the gear i bought/used have a beautiful, detailed and well-structured (printed) user manual that i can refer to anytime i need it, and only ask/find someone more knowledgeable (internet is still rare back in the day) whenever i don't know about something that i can't find the answer on the manual.

+1 for this to, contrary to most of younger generation nowadays (especially my students), i like to read a PDF manual, whether it software or hardware.

ADRs got a reaction from MikeTO in Move data entry
Will do, thanks!
This is what i was using right now (or even using regular line tool instead of textbox), the only drawbacks is i cannot hide it quickly along with other guides, because it's an "actual objects". and in my case, I'm not using it for creating a lot (>105) guides, another drawbacks is i also have activate the snap to object when i want to use that "guides", so i usually create an actual guide and snap it to those textbox/line afterwards.
One of my usage is to create some horizontal gutter guides, as affinity doesn't have a separate gutter value for columns and rows.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions!

ADRs reacted to Ash in Update to OCIO v2.0
Hi - pleased to say we have now added OCIO v2 support in the latest beta (2.2). We'd really appreciate if you wanted to try it in the beta (sign up to beta program here), but if not this means it won't be too long before it's made available in the release version.

Hi @ADRs,
Thanks for reporting this.
We do already have this logged with the Dev team to resolve

ADRs got a reaction from Patrick Connor in Windows Unsandboxed and Sandboxed beta builds are now available (2.1.0.1709 onwards)
is this means that there are no in-app delta update for the MSIX in beta? so the MSI and MSIX both requires full download?

MSI installers (delivered as EXE downloads) will follow on shortly. They won't be released simultaneously, but I plan for them to be tested and released before we break for Christmas (on the 23rd).
They will be based on the exact same 2.0.3 software builds as is inside the MSIX install

ADRs reacted to Guillermo Espertino in Update to OCIO v2.0
For all the people wanting to use AgX on Affinity apps, I have somewhat good news:
MrLixm has forked AgX to work with OCIO v1:
https://github.com/MrLixm/AgXc
The fork works flawlessly for linear rec.709 CG, although it can't yet deal with potential negative values from RAW photos. AFAIK, the lack of clipping methods in OCIO v1 was what made Troy Sobotka use OCIO v2 for AgX.
So, it's not a perfect solution and it might present some issues when working with photographs, but for the people who want to edit their EXR renders in Affinity Photo with the AgX view or OCIO layer transforms, it will be a good temporary solution until Affinity are upgraded to OCIO v2.
Hope this helps!

ADRs reacted to Mark Ingram in Extremely disappointed that this installs as an "App" and not regular software program
Hi all. Thanks for your patience over the weekend when our offices were closed.
We've had a meeting this morning and decided to ALSO offer MSI installers to those people who would like them. I can't tell you when this will happen, as there is engineering work that will be required to allow this to happen, but we hope it won't be long.
Thanks for your feedback!

ADRs got a reaction from Arini R in Blender OCIO config not working
Hi,
Starting from v2.93, Blender used OCIO v2, which affinity haven't supported yet.
You could use ocio configuration from earlier version of blender, or download filmic from github repository, while waiting for affinity to supports OCIO v2.

Can we please get an update to the OCIO support in Affinity Photo? OCIO has been updated to OCIO v2 which supports a lot of cool new features including built-in transforms for ACES etc. Currently we cannot use OCIO v2 configs and this is rapidly becoming the standard as Nuke is beginning to integrate it, Maya 2022, Arnold Renderer, Redshift Renderer, both Photoshop/After Effects OCIO plugins and more. It would be great to have it upgraded to use OCIO v2 configs inside of Affinity Photo. Thanks!

Yes, it will be great if we could rotate canvas with a pen, will waiting for it 😃. maybe one of the solution is like rotation tool in PS, hold R(or some other key) and click drag to rotate.
And thx for the new beta!

Hi sandyadriadi,
This seems similar to a few reports we already have logged. I'm checking them and will update/bump accordingly. Thanks for letting us know.

Thanks. Yes, it does... It took me a while to find it though.

ADRs got a reaction from rawalanche in Impossible to set reliable keyboard shortcuts
You can activate the "Use Shift key to cycle tool group" in the Tools Preferences so that pressing the same key twice wont switches the tool, and still can assign different tool with the same key shortcut.
Hope that helps.

ADRs reacted to paolo.limoncelli in DAUB Pencils
Hi!
I want to share with you this small set of pencils.
Some of these tools feature Angle (Tilt) variance but you need a tablet that support it.
Don't have so much inspiration today to add some samples, but will do it for sure later
This set doesn't work on iPad because required settings are not yet there.
It will work with proper textures once the matching of iOS/Desktop version has been completed.
Hope you'll enjoy it!
Happy sketching!
UPDATE
Just uploaded a v1.1 with these two new pieces
Some things to know...
This new release works with MAS versions of Affinity range, but to have proper tilt dynamic latest Beta of AP or AD is needed.
Special thanks to Andy Somerfield for custom ramps...
