The release of Designer for iPad could be the moment designers finally meet the post-PC era. There is an awkward situation for designers. If you want to do serious work you have to use a Mac, and if you need to use your hand to produce graphics then you grab an iPad and suffer from a lightweight version of a popular design app. Graphic tablets of Wacom was always far from being perfect to remedy the situation. I think Adobe is confused, they have a lot of apps, unnecessarily too many apps. Otherwise if you consider the A10 chip inside iPhone 7, it is desktop processing power enough to handle a full featured vector design software. The problem with Adobe apart from the strategical confusion, they never really optimised their software adequately, they are still slow and bulky, not really efficient in terms of both UI and backend code.
 
I am looking forward to the day Affinity Designer released for iPad. That is going to be an awesome day.

At first when I saw the vid of Ash and the big blank wall, I was like, yeah I get this whole negative space thing but... then a few seconds in I was like, that's very cool. Not seen a tutorial put across that way before. I love it...

Ash takes a quick look at two of the new features which will be coming to Affinity Designer in version 1.5: Constraints and Symbols.

If you pay attention to the first video you may also discover a highly requested feature/improvement.... :)

Thanks Affinity Folks for all of your hard work. I'm looking forward to the new version. But, I'm still hoping for one feature in particular. I'd love it if that when you select a layer on the artboard/document that it would display the same layer in the layers panel. So that means scroll to the right position and expand any groups to show me the layer I selected.
 
Sketch does this very well and it's such a time saver. Having to go and find a layer I'm working on slows work down. And if you don't want it to be the default behavior, perhaps adding it as a preference to make it the default? Any chance of this making into the 1.5 release? Thanks.
 
Note: the functionality exists in the context menu "Find in Layers Panel"... I just want it as the default behavior (or a way to make it the default behavior).

I am still trying my best to fathom the depths of symbols and constraints. These are immensely powerful tools that opened a world of new possibilities and new flexibility for quickly adjusting designs. And when you consider the parameters that have to be taken into account in order to make these tools work as they already do, I believe that was not quite a small achievement …  ;)
