Robert Petras reacted to Wiredframe in import / export .sketch format support
Since I was begging for PSD text export since day one I'd really love to see Sketch support coming instead. This would fill the gap between Mac only and Windows only Designers and collaboration would be possible. It doesn't have to be perfect, but sharing my designs as Sketch files so that the devs can inspect them in Zeplin, Avocode or Sketch Preview would be just awesome.

    Thanks in advance!

I just found out that this might be a lot easier than supporting PSD files, they opened their file format to allow automation :

I've been working with affinity and sketch for some time and it would be great if i could import / open a .sketch file directly in affinity designer.

    Thanks for the great work.

I would love to see this too. The file format in the latest version of Sketch uses JSON and can be opened and read by anybody. This is a game changer as far as front end design / development is concerned. 3rd party programs or even task runners such as GULP and GRUNT can now read Sketch files and convert them to CSS.

I'll be totally honest here as a Front End Developer this could make me switch over not just to Sketch but it could keep me using a Mac.

Robert Petras reacted to Iulisvectordesign in Affinity Designer on iOS 12
Maybe it has something to do with placebo (which I don’t think it has), because I’ve expected to see improved performances on my iPad Pro 9.7, but it feels like affinity designer works much faster now, with iOS 12, than before. Opening a document is almost instantly, color picker (from color studio) works great with the apple pen, the eyeglass from node tool doesn’t stick every time I’m pressing the screen, enlarging a projects feels much more cursive, etc. Sure, I’m spending all my days using only Serif apps on mobile, and I’m getting more used to the way everything works here (even the peen tool which I hated at first, for its lack of instant responsiveness, is more than ok now), but my impressions are that Designer on iOS 12 is almost the perfect tool to work with! So thank you a bunch for it!

    Hi,
We are pleased to announce the App Store release of Affinity Photo for iPad, version 1.6.8
The small change-list is as follows and is essentially made to allow users of iOS 12 to be able to use the application again:
iOS 12 speed issues   HDR merge produces corrupted result on iOS 12 a few minor memory leaks and fixes. To avoid a potentially lengthy beta process that is all that is included in this release.

Robert Petras reacted to MEB in how to create selection from layer
    Hi maxmill,
To create a Luminosity Mask press and hold ⇧ (shift) + ⌘ (cmd) and click on the layer's thumbnail in the Layers panel. Currently this shortcut/command is only available in the desktop version. As suggested above you can create a macro there that performs that step and import it into Affinity Photo for iPad. I've attached the macro file below. Copy it to iCloud or other cloud service you may be using then on Affinity Photo for iPad go to the Macro Studio, click the small menu icon on the header of the Macro Studio panel and select Import Macros..., then select the file you have uploaded to the cloud service.

To use it select the layer you want to apply it to in the Layers Studio, open the Macros Studio, tap the button right below the Macro Studio header to change the category to Luminosity Mask (usually it says Default). You should now see a macro labeled create luminosity mask listed below that category. Tap on it to create a selection based on the luminance of the layer you have selected, then go to the Layers Studio, tap the Mask icon and select New Mask Layer. This will create a luminosity mask from the selection. You can now deselect the selection tapping the canvas with two fingers to display a pop-up menu then selecting Deselect.

    Hi bringmedown,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
To select multiple layers, tap and drag over the layers in the Layers Studio. Do this over all layers you want to select then change to the Move Tool (if not selected already) and drag the objects on canvas.

ah, got it!  you tap on the layer you want, then kind of "swipe" from left to right on top of the additional layer you want selected.   to unselect just one layer you reverse the swipe, from right to left  :-)

Decimal separators are now taken from the OS locale - not the app locale. Fixed an issue which prevented some TIFF files from loading properly. Fixed arrow key issues in curves tool. Fixed perspective tool crash when applied to an empty layer. Small performance improvements. When soloing a mask (or any node with a built in mask), 32bit preview exposure and gamma are ignored. Make the selection refinement preview more like the result of applying and hide the reference layers if the output is a new layer / new layer with mask. Fix selection refinement preview for when the reference image is an “Image Layer”. New layer output from refined transformed mask in a transformed group had wrong transform. The reference image for selection refinement of a mask is the parent node for an enclosure child mask and the previous siblings for a main child list mask. When refining a mask in a group with filter effects we don’t want to include the filter effects in the reference image. Refine Selection - undo doesn't work when used for a second time. Refine Selection - undo then brushing results in lag. Fixed some brush previews being invisible. Fixed some blurry text in the UI. Fixed issues where some images in a focus merge would be discarded. Resetting studio layout should reset the hide status as well. Support for properties in Affinity Photo from the stroke flyout. Fixed numerous Photos extension issues. Numerous vector import / export improvements. Implement OpenType MarkToLigature rule. Font handling improvements. Localised macro and tone mapping presets. Retain EXIF information when creating an image stack. Fixed rotation / tilt input when using brushes. Added new GPUs to Metal compute acceleration (Iris Pro devices). More controls now automatically hide the tool when in use. “Find in Layers” will now automatically make the layers panel visible. Macro library now remembers expanded / collapsed state. CMYK improvements when using Metal compute acceleration. Fixed “Magic Mouse” issues. Don’t prompt to save unmodified documents on exit. Pressing tab will now show / hide the left / right studios correctly. Fixed numerous adjustment in LAB mode when using Metal compute. Circular maximum / minimum filters obey the channels tab properly. Fixed 32bit ICC profile serialisation. Fixed brush scatter not being random enough. Upgraded EXIF parser database. Pen Tool tweaked so that clicking on the start/end node forces it to become a cusp. Develop fixes for rotated photos. Fixed colour picket reticule lingering on the screen. Background grey preference now applies when there are no documents loaded. Fixed camera response function estimation. All spline editors (including Curves) can now be nudged using arrow keys. Improved handling of vertical panoramas. Don’t crash when loading corrupt JPEG files. Fixed crash when using a brush tool after frequency separation. Scrubby zoom shortcut now works in freehand selection tool. “Add” to selection can now move the selection in freehand selection tool. HDR merge improvements. Improved hint line for patch tool. Warn when leaving tone mapping without committing / cancelling. Attempting to refine an existing mask after a crop leads to brush offset issues. Default language should honour the currently set decimal separator. Don’t create Live Perspective filter layers with degenerate transforms. Ability to parse colour profile from EXIF InteroperabilityIndex. Fixed Multiply blend in 32bit RGB. Always use minimum fitting in the crop tool. Enable “Edit in” from Photos app in High Sierra. Hi All,

We’re getting ready to launch the version 1.6 updates of Affinity Photo and Designer and we need your help!

To support all the marketing we do – web pages, videos, social media posts or in-app samples – it’s great to have photos and artwork which our users have created to show off the capability of our apps. So, we wanted to reach out to you to ask if you have any fantastic work you would be happy for us to use in this way.

In addition to forming part of the publicity campaign to promote the possibilities of our apps to new users, you’ll receive a fee of US$300 to license each piece we use.

For our Affinity Photo marketing we mostly need incredible photos of any subject matter - landscapes, model shots, nature, architecture, weddings, sports, automotive, etc. Also any work which utilises focus stacking, HDR, panorama stitching, 360 images or full multi-layered compositions would be great too.

For Affinity Designer we need any work created in the app – illustrations, web / app mock ups, icons, logos, print projects, paintings, etc.

To get an idea of what we have used before, check out our website (affinity.serif.com) or the latest product videos:

    AFFINITY PHOTO VIDEO

If you have created anything you think might be suitable, and as long as you are the copyright owner and hold all the rights to license the work to us, then please get in touch. You can send your photos or designs to consider to affinityart@serif.com.

A flattened PNG or JPG (or a link if you have a gallery on Behance, etc.) is fine at this stage, though if you’re successful we’ll ultimately need the full res image or Affinity file. Please keep your initial submission down to a maximum of five files but by all means let us know if have more. The closing date for submissions is 25th August 2017.

If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask us on affinityart@serif.com.

We look forward to checking out your work!

Although we have now moved to Release Candidate status, it should be assumed that until we have submitted to the App Store that this version should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

    Fixes/Improvements:
New samples (and sample layout) OpenGL and Metal tweaks Reintroduction of original OpenGL (described as OpenGL (Basic) in Preferences->Performance) for those with display issues Updated presets (including iPhone X) Fix for not being able to Cmd+Click inside Compound objects Miscellaneous other fixes and tweaks

This beta version represents a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use.

This one is for Steve …

It’s nice to see the light UI develop! Well, here is a basic observation regarding the main framework of the light UI. I have noticed that some of the background greys have changed since the last iteration. But I still have a problem with the visual hierarchies, and I hope you will see this as well. I believe the background of the main toolbar in standard mode is too dark. Have a look at my illustration below. It should make clear that it would be beneficial to brighten the main toolbar background in standard mode, up to the point, where it conforms to the grey value of the main toolbar in full screen mode.

Furthermore, I would suggest that you care for the inactive state of Affinity Photo as well. It looks a bit heterogenous at the moment, compared to the standard macOS interface.

    Hope that makes sense …
    Cheers, Alex
