Robert Petras reacted to carl123 in Changing background color in Text Frame
In Publisher select the Fill Tool and change the 2nd dropdown box in the Context Toolbar from Text to Frame, then change the colour.
In Designer you can try a recolour adjustment if your text is pure white, (black and other colours can be problematic)

Serif allow customers to test new builds of the software even before it is released to the public. These "beta" builds offer an opportunity to trial bug fixes, add support for new file formats and show off new features before they are launched. This post is designed to be an aid to knowing if you are trying the latest beta version of the Affinity software on your platform.

You either need to have the software installed on the same computer as the customer beta OR if you bought direct from the affinity store website you can provide the product key to activate the beta. If you would like to try the MacOS Customer Beta build look for the top (pinned) post in each of these forums:
Affinity Designer beta for Mac Affinity Photo beta for Mac Affinity Publisher beta for Mac Windows build numbers and Mac builds are technically independent. The third number increases each time a public release is made, the last number is generated by a build server and so not directly related to each other.
I will update/edit this post as new MacOS Beta releases are added by the developers.

If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update. For the macOS release, in the application main menu there is an option "Check for Updates". Alternatively, you can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Updates are installed automatically (or manually by installing the new version over the old) Previous builds do not need uninstalling first. New installations of paid software downloaded from the Affinity Store requires a product key and email pair to use.
Software downloaded from the Mac App Store, Microsoft Store and iPad store do not require a product key and are updated through the relevant store:
If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.
If you’ve purchased from the Pad Store— Your Affinity iPad apps should update automatically next time you run them. However, you do need to be logged in with the same Apple ID you used to buy them. If the automatic update does not happen for you, go to the iPad Store app and go to Updates. Once you’re there, tap near the top of the screen where it states 'Updates' and then hold, pull down and then release. This should manually refresh the updates page. However, don’t contact us if the updates are not available for you yet—Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world and this can take up to 24 hours.

Robert Petras got a reaction from Blende21 in Can you bring some prototyping competition for Adobe Xd?
1. Thanks @Blende21! I see now what DAM stands for.
2. As for PP. I consider it rather an office presentation tool than a professional prototyping software. I still consider developing new design/prototyping app to be beneficial for Serif. But who knows, this field turned to be quite saturated so it could be late for make this move.
We shall see what developers at Serif is cooking this year for us. An eBook export feature in Affinity Publisher would be welcome for lots of us for sure ;-')
Robert Petras reacted to ashf in Can you bring some prototyping competition for Adobe Xd?
New competitor in prototyping league showed up called Drama.
Mac only solution like Sketch though.

Currently Affinity is very incomplete in terms of typography especially for non-Latin language users.
So it's not useful for printing/publishing.
In order to make Affinity usable, there need to be additional use cases.
Such as alternative to Powerpoint, XD.
I know many people using Affinity for presentation or prototyping.
Or please make the typography feature complete first instead.
Robert Petras reacted to Cealcrest in Global Colors
I ran up against this issue a couple days ago. Thought I was just not seeing the global option in the swatches panel. Until this feature can be added, the in-app help documentation needs to state clearly that it's not possible to create global colors on the iPad version.
Robert Petras reacted to stokerg in Global Colors
It's not currently possible to set Global Colours on the iPad. It's been requested a number of times and i'd expect to see it in Designer before it's in Photo. If you set a Global Colour on the Desktop version and open that afdesign/afphoto file the Global colour should still be honoured, you just can't create/edit them on the iPad.
Robert Petras reacted to GrinningShark in macOS : Selecting .AFDESIGN file in Finder opens Photo?!?
I figured out how to resolve it. The fix is on the macOS side. It looks like information about the folders is cached and somewhere along the way Affinity probably misconfigured the folders (after looking through the forums, it looks like these folders at some point would both go to Affinity Photo, but that was resolved later by the developers). Since I have been using both Affinity programs since the day they were launched, I probably had some remnants of this somewhere that was hosing my iMac and MacBook.
Steps I followed (use at your own risk):
- Go into iCloud settings and turn off Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo in the iCloud Drive settings. This DOES NOT delete your files from iCloud.
- Go to ~/Application Support/CloudDocs/session and then delete these files and folders to the trash:
This DOES NOT delete your files from iCloud or impact the Affinity software or settings, it only gets rid of details related to icons and application references for the special App Library folder on your macOS.
- Go into iCloud settings and turn both Affinity Designer and Photo back on.
- Launch Designer and Photo.
- Check the iCloud Drive folder and the directories should be correctly setup.
Hope this helps anyone else who has this bizarre problem.
Robert Petras reacted to allaboutdolph in Infinite Canvas in Affinity Designer
One of the flagship features of Sketch would be a great one to implement into Designer, possibly also Photo, and carry over into the iPad versions—an infinite canvas for brainstorming and sketching out ideas using vector brushes, like a huge, digital whiteboard. This could be added as an option when creating a new document, all on its own, or part of a 'web' project. No artboard or document boundaries, just white to sketch out ideas and scroll to try something new, be able to copy an idea to another part of the canvas to create a modified version, things like that. Could see someone using this feature on an iPad Pro with Apple Pencil to sketch out ideas that can be fine-tuned later, either still on the iPad, or on a computer.
If this feature were a day one with the launch of Affinity products for iPad, I'd buy them all instantly.
Robert Petras reacted to Fixx in Affinity Animate
I do not think there is room for actual animation software, and also bettering AAE would take considerable effort and finances. Also there are some video animation/fx packages which are OK though not quite with AAE feature set.
That said, if Designer aims to compete in UX field it should offer some way to do prototyping, either with built in animation tools, or with connection/export to some other prototyping package.
Also, there really is no simple gif animation tool in he market at the moment that can take layered file and animate it.
Robert Petras reacted to Medical Officer Bones in Affinity Animate
Oh, I would love to see a proper modernized After Effects alternative. I am surprised no-one has developed it yet, because nothing really comparable to After Effects exists on the market; it would be a successful product if someone would.
Robert Petras reacted to Frozen Death Knight in Affinity Animate
Sure, but what I would want from a potential Affinity Animate is more akin to After Effects styled animations of vector art, which I think would be quite useful to have supported. It's just very useful when creating prototypes of websites, user interfaces, video banners, and more. The collaborative power between Illustrator and After Effects make it hard to find a good alternative in that department since After Effects has a lot of great tools for handling Illustrator files.
Also, just having a proper timeline that can be supported in both Designer and Photo would leave open opportunities to do things like animate pixel art, cleaning and colouring of unfinished animations, and just general animation stuff. It doesn't have to be anything revolutionary, just a solid system that provides animation capability with all the tools that Designer and Photo provide. It would fill a solid niche for UI/UX designers and artists who rely on Photoshop when working in the animation industry.
Robert Petras reacted to Alex Bridges in Affinity Animate
The Affinity programs are the best out there. This is not really a question but a comment. Can Affinity make and affinity animate program? This would be really helpful and would be great. They could add a timeline, frames, onion skin, and other parts of any animating software to the already created affinity designer.
Robert Petras reacted to John Mevis in Prototyping features - Serif
I use Affinity Designer for Ui/Ux and I am very pleased with my working process BUT I really miss the ability to prototyping my design.
As a solution, I see the following options:
- export from Affinity Designer to another app for prototyping like (ProtoPie, Figma, Invision)
- Prototypy Persona to have opportunity make animation and transition with artboard ( I think it's the best variant)
- another app in Serif line - Affinity Prototyper:)
Thank's for attention & wish a nice day
