  1. When word went from 2007 to 2010 (doc to docx) a similar situation occurred, you could not open docx with 2007 so after creating a fancy document with the full formatting tool of 2010 the only way to pass it on to 2007 users was to use the built in Save As .doc format. All your fancy formats went haywire and you had reform the doc in 2007. In Ver 2 you can copy & past layers over to Ver 1. What will happen with layers that contain the new features I don't know other than if you warp text in Ver 2 AD and copy the croup to Ver 1 AD it will remain warped but convert to curves.
  2. But isn't integration like that with programs from different software houses a bonus? I'm please the batch file worked.
  3. @Patrick Connorcan you post on how to install Affinity to a different drive? I'm sure I saw it somewhere but can't remember and I do not wish to uninstall just to try after customising my dams & tools etc. to work to my liking.
  4. You need to used a .bat file. Can Blender call .bat files? Faststone & Photo Supreme can. Batch file start /min cmd /c affinityphoto2.exe %1 exit
  5. What questions about updates. When there is an update it will be installed no matter what drive you elected it to be installed on. From what I understand updating the app is easier than updating a normally installed program and both the app & the 'program' are exactly the same except with apps you can't mess about with the program files.
  6. The comment I'm referring to allowed you to move to the same drive, different directory and change it from an app to a normal msi type install. I believe installing the app to another drive isn't a problem with the app but I could be wrong.
  7. Then it isn't the comment I was referring to. The one I meant was the one that involved unzipping and installing to a different directory. I can't see that comment.
  8. They are keeping compatibility as Ver 1 files can be opened in Ver 2 but how do you expect files that use a new feature that is not in Ver 1 to open that file & use it correctly. Are you saying you can create a complex file in PSCC, save it and open it in PS ver 1? I doubt that even adobe can do that. It didn't happen with MS word 2007 when they changes to word 2010 (doc to docx) and many other programs. You buy a 1600cc mark 1 car, You can run it till it falls apart but you can't keep it on the road with parts for the 1800cc mark 2 upgrade. The manufacturer won't keep repairing it forever or upgrade you to the mark 2 with a 40% discount. So what if PS had puppetwarp 8 years ago. Serif is not adobe. Their programs are not clones of photoshop, craproom etc. "you do the hard work" A good workman can (often) do a good with poor tools but can (often) do a better job faster with good tools. If you are happy with mspaint then why did you buy Ver 1? So you can push a button and have super graphics done for you? Serif may or may want you to buy Ver 2 but it is an offer you can refuse if you wish. Your Ver 2 FILES (not pictures) will not be compatible with Ver 1 but your ver 1 file will be with Ver 2. If you want you pictures to be compatible the export them as tiff, jpg, png or whatever. If you are happy with crossed square (rather than dots) then you will not be happy with Ver 1's ticked squares! I have not seen any program I am 100% happy with (even Affinity) but mspaint 2%, LR -2,367%, PS 80%, AP2 to early to say but a lot more than 80% up to now. PS I've supported Sefif for 18 months (AP) and 6 months (AD & APub), can I have a bigger discount and more say in future developments than you plaese?
  9. If @Patrick Connor is referring to the comment I think he is it involved a completely new install in another directory so come update time the Serif update routine would not update it. Even the poster accepted that future updates could mean having to redo the hack every update which would defeat the object.
  10. Isn't this the reason adobe keep buying out the competition, in an effort to get everyone to buy RENT their overpriced programs. I had adobe for 4 years and spent £480 or so (for one program (PS, I don't count LR as it was crap) to be left with nothing when I cancelled my subs. Both Ver 1 & Ver 2 of Affinity cost a lot less and they are mine till I pop my clogs up upgrade my computer to one that will not run them.
  11. Why would you expect an old version of a program to open the files of a new version with incompatible features and why would you want to? If you are 'trying out' a new program it make sense to duplicate the file and open the dup or open the file and SAVE AS giving it a similar name just in case till you are ready to commit fully to the new program. When I try things I'm not sure about I copy the files (have copied over 10 gig of files 'just in case') so I don't mess up. Commonsense really.
  12. While I would have preferred it to be a 'normal' installation I don't see a problem it being an app as it is still fully functioning. Yes I had to do a bit extra work so my my external programs can open AP and load the selected image. It was my choice to set up my dams that way rather than just the normal drag & drop which I still use sometime and still work perfectly. I can still add shortcuts to the desktop if I want to clutter it with shortcuts but I don't, some program installs don't ask, they just clutter the desktop and all I do is remove the shortcut. It isn't a big deal and certainly not a deal breaker.
  13. I would like to know how many of the wingers got Ver 1 on the half price offer when they weren't loyal customers!
  14. I normally don't use larger than A4 (if I do then A3 is normally the max) so O am pleased I now don't have to wade through loads of useless sizes. Creating you own custom presets is not a workround, it is a bonus that you can do it. What has been done makes it more usable for many people, obviously not for you but a few mins to set custom presets & templates ain't gonna kill you. Banner at the top of the forum tells you why they have not had the chance to reply.
  15. It can be done if you launch program can launch a .bat file. The 2 dam programs I use can launch .bat so I can use drag & drop (if AP open) or launch to open AP & the file.
  16. You can switch them to mono if that is what you prefer, personally I like the coloured ones and hate gameboy & stupid mario.
  17. I know that radio buttons are mutually exclusive, I also knew when I saw the first post mentioning them that it was about the look and not the action. I also knew that the image was of the check buttons at the ends of TWO layers which is clear to see by the line dividing them. Either a solid dot (ON) or a hollow dot (OFF) is just another version of a square with a tick or a square without a tick. It is simple to understand. I was unsure about the dots but a dot I can see compared to a dot I can barely see, the meaning is clear and the difference is night & day.
  18. I'm glad I spent the money to upgrade for all the extra features and improvements. I don't need the space yet so will just leave Ver 1 on the pc and not use it again unless I have a problem only Ver 1 can fix.
