Colors are off on my second Screen.
cgidesign replied to Erichi's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
👍 good that it worked for you. -
You can ALT click on the mask icon to solo it. You then see the mask in solo mode = only the mask but not the other layers' content. By clicking on another layer you leave the solo mode. This ALT click works not only for masks but other layers as well. The issue with Affinity is, that there is no feature to show the mask and the content at the same time. This is only possible in mask refine mode but in that one you can't paint the mask. As far as I know this is one of the most requested features in the forum since the beginning of Affinity but unfortunately it did not make it into V2.

Colors are off on my second Screen.

In case you are using Windows: It is just a guess but you might ran into a combination of two issues here. Root cause is the way Windows handles the display's ICC profiles, the other one is how Affinity "finds" those ICC profiles. In general APhoto and I think the other apps as well, color correct their screen output according to the ICC profile set in Windows for the specific display. When you move the APP or its document window from one display to the other Affinity is switching to the ICC profiles accordingly. This happens when you release the mouse. So your rectangle changes its color as intended. First potential issue: If you don't have a proper ICC profile for each display Affinity gets wrong information and displays "wrong" color. Second potential issue: Even if you have correct profiles Windows might fool you. The issue is, that in some cases Windows does a wrong identification of the displays. It happens to me especially with two monitors attached to a notebook. In that case I have three displays. All of them have a correct ICC profile. But sometimes Windows reads my main display as the notebook display and assigns the ICC profile of that one. Affinity is then color correcting with the wrong profile. Solution: Open "Color Management" in Windows (just type "color" in the search field - it will then offer the color management console). And now the complicated part: Once you have set everthing, Affinity should work as expected. But even the system panel might get messed up by Windows. Whenever I feel something is wrong with my colors, I check those profiles settings. Affinity limitation: The developers of most graphic software I use, have identified this Windows issue and implemented a feature to directly assing the profiles instead of reading the Windows Registry. Example Firefox: Affinity does not have this feature so checking the Windows Color Management is the way to go then. On the other hand Affinity has the profile switching feature which alot of other software does not have. E.g. Firefox can only correct with one ICC profile / display. If its window is on my BenQ, I get correct colors, but if I move it to the Huion they are a bit off because Firefox still uses the BenQ profile. In my case this is not a big issue because both displays are calibrated to match sRGB quite accurately. So, the final corrections in the profiles are not to much appart. -
Pen pressure sensitivity messing up on low brush sizes

I can confirm this issue: Win 10, GPU RTX 2070 Max-Q, Open CL is on Tablet: Huion Kamvas 24 (4K) (Windows Ink is off in driver) APh Tablet mode: I tried High Precision and Low Precision It happens with 100% hardness. At 99% hardness the issue is gone. --------------------------- -
Thanks for replying: - creating a mask (not a quick mask) - painting on that mask while still be able to see the layers content (not refine mask, not one of the numerous workarounds, etc.) This has been discussed for years and requested by a lot of users. One example of the discussions is the thread below:

For me it is not an issue so far, because I don't reach the 8GB limit. But I can say that task manager is quite accurate regarding vram in my case. I can always predict that if it shows vram usage reaching 100% that my other software using the GPU will stop working correctly. Edit: I tested further and noticed that once I reach 7.8 GB APh stops consuming more vram. Seems so you have a working failsave in place there. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

APh V2 is now working with GPU for me. APh V1 never worked correctly with it. As many in the forum seem to have issues with GPU acceleration here is one hint about the GPU driver version: I am using 517.40 studio driver. All newer drivers have an Nvidia confirmed issue with some Open CL operations. I for example have a 3D software with Open CL driven cloth simulation. This simulation crashes with any driver newer than 517.40. Nvidia anounced to have a new fixed driver available in second half of November. Maybe you can try the 517.40 driver and see if that helps with issues. Notebook: Nvidia RTX 2070 Max-Q Intel Core i7 tenth generation 16 GB Ram

Please, please, can you finally allow to disable the brush visualization while painting? It is very distracting to see this circle or cross or brush preview when painting on a graphics display. The visualization should only be there if the size of the brush gets changed so that we get an idication about its set size, but hide it otherwise. EDIT: Requestet since early V1 version:

For me it is the opposite: APh V1 is not able to use GPU hardware for more than a few brush strokes. After that it always stalls and I need to kill the process. APh V2 is the opposite of yours. It uses GPU without issue so far and brushing is much faster than in V1. Notebook: Nvidia RTX 2070 Max-Q Intel Core i7 tenth generation 16 GB Ram Regarding GPU driver: I am using 517.40 studio driver. All newer drivers have an Nvidia confirmed issue with some Open CL operations. I use a 3D software with Open CL driven cloth simulation. This simulation crashes with any driver newer than 517.40. Nvidia anounced to have a new fixed driver available in second half of November. Maybe you like to try the 517.40 driver in case you use a newer one?

I wrote already about ALT click. It is not about how PS does it, as I don't have PS. There is a thread with 82 replies about this, where everybody is asking to get this function year after year. This is the only relevant answer from Serif within this thread: "Currently it's not possible to display the overlay to edit existing masks. This was requested a couple times already and hopefully will be considered by the dev team for a future update." I am just asking if it has changed accordingly in V2 or not. I am not asking to get educated about what I have to learn or not 😉

APh V2 on Windows desktop. Mask nested to pixel layer. Painting the mask. In V1 there was no easy way to see the mask as overlay to the pixel layer while painting it. Only ALT Clicking the mask to enable an isolated view of the mask was possible. But without seeing the pixel layer, painting is a blind guesswork. In V2 it seems to be still not possible to show the mask and the layer. Is it really true, that nothing has been done about this in V2 or am I missing something?

APh V2, Windows 10 64 bit. Brushes in 8 bit documents create banding artifacts. All this has already been documented in this thread about APh V1: Brush_Bug.afphoto

Seems so still wrong in APh version 2.

Seems so softproof is wrong in APh Version 2 as well. Absolute colorimetric should respect the paper color (white point) in the icc profile, but it does not.
