  1. I also think that it is better to buy the software from source - such support is more appreciated and the authors get better income because they do not pay intermediaries. Besides, although I mainly use Affinity Photo, I will not fail to enrich my projects using the other two applications. On the example of the last version of V1 - I often put the so-called "compound layers" (vector only) with Affinity Designer, and thanks to Affinity Publisher I insert tables into the same project - from the suite from Adobe I could dream about it. I switched to Affinity, basically because Adobe revoked my license for CS6 Suite, and because I have poor English speaking skills (needed to deal with the complaint) - I have problems switching to a different language during the conversation than my native one. Besides, I believe Affinity has wider support, also through the forum. It should also be taken into account that in Photo we do not have the possibility to create workspaces (I mean "Artboards"), hence the need to use a Designer - At first I didn't know that the functions between Affinity apps complement each other, but over time I started to regret that they didn't appear in one app and not three separate ones. Unfortunately, the applications in version 2.0 are so buggy and slow that despite buying them, I decided to stay with version 1.0 (relatively stable).
  2. I am most disappointed with the fact that Affinity's second suite is not compatible with the earlier version, despite some minor differences. For example, by editing an old .afphoto project in Photo 2 by simply hiding the layer (without using the new features), we will prevent this file from being opened in the old version. Moreover - as it happened in my case - more complicated layers (Compound) could not be displayed properly in the new version. When the developers mentioned something about version 2 a few years ago, I expected that after its premiere we would actually get a new product with a lot of additional tools that were demanded by users on the forum, but in the meantime we get practically the same product, with the number "2" added, changed icons (the UI is basically the same, with little and unnecessary changes) and with a lot of bugs. The 40% promotion for the entire Suite (which includes both OS licenses) is tempting, but I got used to the current version, which at least is stable and runs smoother.
  3. evtonic3, there is another way to apply wave effect on layer(s) by using different distort filter called "Shear" in Affinity Photo. It has good use, because you can control it manually and knowledge about linear equations is no needed. Unfortunately... this option requires some time, because we need to set the curved lines properly by "trial and error" method. If you will want to give the same wave effect on another layer, which has a different dimension, then the line will go differently. You can see these differences on attached image - I made it on a darker background to not strain my eyes. Best Regards, Michael
  4. Hi there, Sorry for refreshing this old thread, but I don't want create new and also I couldn't find a more suitable one. I am a new user here and I'm just starting the adventure with Affinity (especially with Designer and Photo), so I look forward to your understanding. Today I was practicing more on warping layer to visualize it on complex object using the photo of the bottle and the label design from the author's post (Maxxxworld). I found that Affinity Photo (v. 1.8.2.620) allows to distort/warp selected layer (or group of layers) in 4 different ways. So far I have used such as: - Equations Filter using Macro from John Rostron - it's not perfect, but it saves a lot of time. - Warp Mesh Tool - with minimum effort I got similiar label projection as in the reference photo, so it allows to keep the most precisely result. - Shear Filter - using "curved line" in grid on the right I got similiar result to John's method. It's also good for create/visualize waving flag. - Push Forward Tool in Liquify Persona - I managed to get the desired, though so-so result, but I have used this method for fun purposes. Also, it works on the raster layer only (you call it "Pixel"). All results you can see in attached image. However, each of these methods is destructive, because it applies a final, pernament change to layer(s), so then it's no editable anymore. Would be great if Affinity Photo could has such options like "Shear/Equations Live Filter Layer" or something like "Mesh Warp Tool", which will work on curve/embedded/pixel layer or even group of layers while maintaining the possibility of further editing. It should be added that so far, the program is not suitable for creating editable mock-up templates (except for boxes, posters or banners). The Serif Team should keep this in mind to change that. Less advanced users often use ready-made templates, where just a few clicks is enough to replace the graphics - hence the great popularity of Photoshop. If such templates appeared for Affinity Photo, then more people would reach for it. PS. Also sorry for my not very best English. I use Google Translate (very often), then I make a corrections. Best Regards and Good Health, Michael
