Bobanian got a reaction from ambersand in Set default zoom to 100% instead of "fit windows size"
The point is, this behavior should be a preference in settings. You like it, great. Others don't, so cool, just make it so it can be turned off.

The way Pšenda describes how it should work is spot-on, and it's not just very small images that are problematic. I work on a 27" iMac, 5k retina, so virtually every web graphic gets zoomed in on opening, resized, or cropped. I'm constantly CMD-1ing. For the record, I love the software and advocate for it whenever I can. But to me, this particular behavior feels poorly considered.

This bug/feature was driving my nuts, so I'm back to using Photoshop at work. I'll keep Affinity Photo because of the fantastic integration with Designer and Affinity Publisher, but for web graphics I had to go back to Adobe Photoshop. Affinity team, if you read this, could you at least acknowledge the issue and explain the reasoning behind passing on what seems like an easy fix?

Hi All
I am new here, had been using adobe illustrator when i need it, but keen not to pay though the nose and still get something i can understand and do the odd drawing with. I think i have found it..! Also liking the look of the desktop publishing package too. I am sure i will be asking lots of questions from time to time. Thanks very much for producing such a great package.

Me too. Went straight to preferences thinking we'd finally find this fix. Ugh

Bobanian reacted to Nickfmc in Zoom Bug on load.
is this a feature request.... well 4 years ago when we thought hey maybe. Now in 2021 with 4k monitors all around us and wide screen monitors the norm, I would say this is a bug it is HORRIBLE for people dealing with small raster images on the web etc and can really trick your eye when you are just under screen size and maybe don't notice the zoom. I'm adding this here because this is still an active thread after more than 4 years so I do NOT think there have been any eyes on this topic so hopefully someone from the team can at least give this issue a read through to feel our pain.

I created a new ticket under product support. maybe we can get some fresh affinity eyes on this thread as it has clearly not on anyone's radar at Serif

I agree. It's weird that people haven't risen up in arms over this yet. 😂

I want to just add another request for this. This really shouldn't be an issue the users have to deal with.

I love Affinity Photo except for this one behavior. I work on a 27" iMac with web graphics and its the most annoying thing to have to constantly zoom out to see my work. Fit-to-screen is great for giant graphics, but please make it something users can turn off in preferences

Yeah, it's about time this get added.

I too work on a 32" screen and it's SO annoying that every single (small) image gets zoomed into my face. I work with web-related content and there are LOTS of low-resolution photos to work with.

I just found this feature request when searching for a setting I missed in Photo and Designer... But there is no setting.
This feature request is about 4,5 years old and still it isn't implemented. What a pity. 😲
Please implement a setting to stop Photo and Designer to zoom in when opening a file. I'm using a 32" monitor and it looks very ugly when a 100x100px icon is zooming in.

That would make sense too. Working with an image that keeps zooming in-and-out while opening/resizing is very very frustrating.

Or, at least, make this settable as s preference.

I work with Photo on a daily basis and too often I have to work with small images (200 pixels or less). When opening them in Photo the program automatically zooms them to fit the entire working area, which is useless because I actually don't need that zoom level when I work with small pictures. I think images should always be 100% zoomed (unless they're bigger than your working area). Is it something you're considering already? I know I can Ctrl/Cmd + 1 and set the zoom to 100% but it's one more (useless) action when working with lots of images at the same time. And if you resize the image it goes back to full screen zoom, once again.
Example:
If I load a 100x100 icon into Photo this is how it shows it. I think it should open it at 100% and not zoomed to (almost) fit the entire space.

I guess that's why it's posted in the feedback section?
But maybe you thought that I see it as a bug in the way I expressed myself?

agreed.. It is stupid how such simple things have not been addressed by Serif.

+1.
Not sure why this haven't been fixed yet. Saw people talking about this in 2018.
