  1. The state that AI is in is the worst it will ever be. We will never be able to escape it as there's too much money to be made off of it. Artists can boycott all they want, but they'll be back. They need to eat and compete somehow. There are artists who use the tools to their advantage and are winning.
  2. +1 On this. I've worked in the video game industry and versioning was something that I got used to and really really find it useful. Changing file names causes problems especially when linking/placing files within files within files etc. As for keeping different version we would use SVN for the artists in the video game studio. It seemed to work fine, but the repository got bloated fast. It wasn't a problem since we designed the servers to scale, but for a small guy like me, a solution like that be overkill or just too much to manage. I'll have to check out that Adobe one to see what it's like, but versioning really does come in handy.
  3. Fair enough. I'm not looking to do tracing in the grand scheme of things. I'm ok with leaving it as a raster image, just looking to get that "vector" look. Plus running it through a vector tracing app would probably have an easier time too if I chose to do it at a later date. I'm noticing that all these solutions are close but just doesn't nail the style as per the oil painting plug in photoshop. I'll keep tinkering though and glad I can get some of the way there. Maybe the cats at Serif will add that in in a future update.
  4. These are all great replies you guys thank! @Lagarto This is pretty close but I'm noticing that multiple oil painting instances give a specific vector line look. How would we solve that with the pictures you've posted above? ie The hair?
  5. I know I’m late to the party, but Here’s the link for convenience: https://www.filterforge.com/filters/7688.html
  6. Yeah was planning to find an auto tracer after doing this. Would be less tedious. I’ll check out the tutorials posted and do the stuff you suggested. Maybe I’ll start with something simple to understand the mechanics of it all.
  7. Hey all, I saw this great tutorial on how to turn your photos into a great vector looking piece. Unfortunately it's done in Photoshop. Is there an oil paint like filter in Affinity Photo to pull off this effect with such ease?
  8. The amount of crashing and file corruption that's happening to me right now would make me too nervous to try this. For now, I have each card in it's own afpub file so keep away from all the crashes. It's happening when linking a 3 or 4 level deep afdesigner file. Intermittent too so it's hard to replicate but it's definitely a linking issue. For now, I'll keep the design of each card out of any 8up within itself. Hopefully there will be a fix for this soon.
  9. That's not what I'm doing with these files. I'm not putting them in each other but rather treating them like levels in the final file. Using less documents but several masters doesn't work for my workflow. I could be missing something, but I'm laying out cards in as singles since I want to lay them 8up on sheets. I can't trust the printers where I'm from because usually they're lazy or want to charge me an exorbitant amount of money just to lay them up for me. As for the crashing, it usually happens when I'm dealing with linking. If I crash while trying to link a document, it corrupts my file and I can no longer open it past the app asking if I want to relink in the Resource Manager. I now have to rebuild the file. That's getting frustrating for me.
  10. I actually figured that out too. I was moving files and forgot to relink one of them.
  11. It seems that the crashes happen when it comes to files that have deeply imbedded linked files. When I click fix in preflight, the app crashes. Guess I'll have to practice working with less layers of linked files. I've also noticed that when I'm linking too deep, the file that was linked gets pixelated both in preview and export.
  12. Oh I see. Yeah that fixed the problem I was having. Thanks so much! I'm not an expert with Publisher just yet! As for the crashing, i guess those are known issues. Thanks for all your help.
  13. Yeah that's what I mentioned before but it seems there's no fix but to reimport it. Also, the bugs have been getting worse. I now have files that are linked and showing but preflight is telling me that the files are missing many many times. When I go to relink them it solves the problem but then another warning pops up and tells me it's missing. Then when I double click the warning in preflight, the app crashes. I have a feeling that this is due to files being linked a few levels down. For example: Icon/Logo -> Card Top -> Player Card -> Layout for 8up It seems that this many layers of linking makes Publisher crash? In the meantime, I'll create a clean and new file and see if the problem persists.
  14. Hey Thanks! In a new document yes. It also works NOW when I just place the file instead of replacing. Before that wasn't the case. I went opening the file, made a small change, save, undo, save. Sometimes that fixed the new import (place) sometimes it didn't. Now for some reason they all work. The only thing that doesn't work is replacing the designer file for the pub file so I just delete it and reimport. I've attached a zip file for you to check out. Just a heads up, I've solved the problem by doing work arounds but I hope these files help solve any bugs. Let me know if you need anything else. 6-7Test.zip
  15. Hey all, I made a video regarding the bug that I'm having with linking. Please have a look and let me know if there was something I did wrong! It seems that publisher will only import certain files that have problems and vice versa. It's kinda weird and long so I made a video to explain in more detail. Using Affinity Publisher and Designer 1.8.2. Mac OSX 10.14.6 https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CwMtI_Lljx9H798LAl5Ad6z6PFCj6l6C Thanks!
