Delineated got a reaction from Trams in Batch Job - add folders/subfolders
The Batch Job feature in Affinity Photo is great, but one crucial feature that's missing is the ability to select multiple folders and subfolders and all the images inside automatically being added to the list.

The whole idea of the Batch Job is to save time from manual labour, and sometimes having to go through tens of folders and subfolders and manually selecting all image files to be batch processed is a very manual and time consuming process.

    Thanks

Delineated reacted to ETO in Affinity is not able to render correctly a standard SVG
Affinity is not able to open SVG files with a special syntax where some whitespaces are missing.
This syntax follows the standard SVG 1.1 so is expected that Affinity is able to read.
In the attached example an arc is wrote as:
    a.65.65 0 011.109-.459
The string 011.109 contains 3 values:
0 1 (a boolean is required here, it cannot be 11.109) 1.109 This syntax (with missing whitespaces) follows the SVG 1.1 standard: https://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/paths.html#PathDataBNF

The example is properly displayed on Chrome and Firefox.
This issue has been discovered using SVGO (https://github.com/svg/svgo/issues/1137)

    Hi ETO,

Thanks for letting us know - I've passed this onto development to be looked into.

I agree with this as a future upgrade.  Can't believe it is not already possible

Same issue here. Easier workaround though is to simply click the "Character" button in the toolbar directly above the document area (visible while in text editing mode) and use the font selector in that window.

I'm also on a MacBook Pro with a 4K external screen. This is indeed a pretty serious issue, how's the beta with the fix coming along?

I have the same problem, on Macbook Pro with a 4k external screen and the app freezes as soon as I try to select a font. The workaround suggested by @dublbutted works but this still need fixing.

got a way to stop font change crash!!!

its an odd fix but it works ,
open project and before you change font go to window tab at the top page menu bar and click separate windows tab, the screen will go in to separate window mode and you can then access your fonts and change them
you can even change back to joined window mode straight away and then open the font window and it does not crash...
I must say tho I am getting a lot of crashes at the mo
am also getting the same font fault in affinity photo as well as designer.
    any ideas affinity ?

Ok, Here are some videos to demonstrate all the snapping that I've added for handles.  Please note, I'm not talking about snapping to grid, I am talking about snapping to useful construction angles relative to the opposite curve point and handle.

So, the following snaps are shown:

    1) Snapping to smooth a cusped node - SnapToSmooth.mov
    2) Snapping to inline, and 90 degrees to inline - SnapToInlineAndNormal.mov
    3) Snapping to reflected angle - SnapToReflected.mov
    4) Snapping to parallel direction - SnapToParallel.mov
    5) Snapping to 90 degrees of parallel - SnapToParallelNormal.mov
    6) Snap to logical triangle (useful for square corners?) - SnapToTriangle.mov

The useful thing about these snaps is that they will enable you to perform common curve construction, completely independent of grid or set axis.  You can use them in tandem with a second action while holding Shift to snap the handle lengths to match the preceding or following handle (while maintaining the direction you already snapped).

    Hi,

I am using https://imageoptim.com/macto further compress images for the web without loss of quality. It would be nice to have the options of the tools used in this program in Affinity Designer, too - they are open source - I hope their license would allow this. ...

Otherwise I'd have to wait for scripting capabilities of AD ;)

    cheers

I would love to see an option when saving JPG, PNG and GIF files to losslessly compress them and remove unnecessary junk in order to achieve minimal file size :) ...
Something like ImageOptim does (with tools like PNGCrush, MozJPEG, Zopfli, AdvPNG, Jpegoptim, Gifsicle, SVGO and PNGOUT).

And bonus: Images that are used as Resources in Affinity Photo and Designer can be losslessly minified as well (in affinity photo there was saving 10MB from 51MB = 20% on my test run)

in my experience (comparing to a lot of open source jpeg libraries, irfanview, mozjpeg 2  / mozjpeg 3) Photoshop's jpeg export is actually shockingly good and you should not expect any other program to just blindly match it :). That's with CC 2014 / 2015 / 2017 though, but I doubt the jpeg engine changed over the years.

Mozjpeg3 is still the winner of them all, but I never use irfanview or imagemagick's jpeg save anymore because photoshop's is clearly better.

If it's possible for the Affinity team to incorporate the opensource mozjpeg3 library (a mod /fork of the 'normal' libjpeg as far as I know) it would be a winner :P, but I have no clue if this is possible license-wise and all.

    Hi,

I would love to see an option to optimise Affinity Designer’s files. What I have in mind is a way, once you have finished your composition to reduce the image size to match their use.

You would need a few options to reduce the file without losing actual useful data. Depending on what you need you can define that the file images need to be downsized to 1x or 2x, that the images should be cropped to their visible portion or left to their full size, etc.

I think this would be really helpful to avoid archiving huge files when you have a mostly vector file but with a few cropped images.

    Hi Delineated

There's obviously something in the optimisation we don't like, but it is odd that the gradient is shown in the fill dialog but not on the object so I shall get this passed over to the development team

    Cheers

Delineated got a reaction from anon1 in Accept shorthand hexadecimal colours like in CSS
    Hi,

I remember seeing this requested once or twice and I've even requested this myself 2 years ago and I thought it would've been simple to implement.

Can we please have support for shorthand 3 character "hex" colour values like in CSS that combine 2 duplicate characters into 1 - i.e white can be #FFF instead of the more verbose #FFFFFF, yellow – #FC0 instead of #FFCC00, #333 for dark grey instead of #333333 etc.

Currently, only #000 for black accidentally works, but none of the other shorthand values do.

    Thanks.

Delineated got a reaction from F_Kal in Colour Picker - problems and feasible solution
While we are at it, here's an idea for another usability improvement of the colour picker:

    - Accept the entry of 3 digit HEX values, I'm sure that web designers used to the shorthand CSS syntax would appreciate that.

For example, white (#FFFFFF) could be represented as #FFF, but Affinity would change the 3 digit value to #000FFF which is actually blue.

Delineated reacted to VIPStephan in Simplified HEX color value entry
Would you be so kind and implement a simplified HEX value entry? Usually, HEX color values are expressed as #RRGGBB; in CSS there is a shortcut to write #RGB if both sub values for either color are the same, e. g. #336699 can be written as #369. I wish to do the same when entering values manually in the various HEX input fields in Affinity Designer (currently it converts this to #000369, for example).
