Set the blend mode of your B&W line art layer to ‘Multiply’ and add a Pixel layer underneath. When you paint on the Pixel layer the colours will show through the white areas of the reference layer but they’ll be obscured by the black lines.

So you are saying that the line layer has become a reference layer and the color (pixel) layer beneath it will stay within the lines of the line layer when you fill with the fill tool.

So you end up with a  color layer and separate line layer.  Can you then remove the multiply from the line layer so you are left with a line layer and a color layer.

I can not check this right now because I am not on my iPad

I appreciate you answering and thank you for your time.

  2. I use Clip Studio Paint sometimes and to color my line art I put the line art on one layer and set that layer to reference layer the add a layer underneath .

‘now it fills in the color layer with the fill tool but inside the line reference layer thus keeping the line and color layers separate.

is there a way to do this in Affinity Photo on IOS 14+?

    thank you

  3. First This is an Mac Affinity Photo question not a vector stroke line using pressure setting.

Is there any way to make a brush that will taper at both ends automatically?

What I am hoping for is a brush that after I draw a line it automatically tapers both ends.

I see this kind of brush in other software.

I know this could be achieved with my tablet and size by pressure but that is not what I'm looking for.

    Thank you for all help.

  4. Using Affinity Photo on a Mac.

I realize you can paint a white stroke then use FX outline to outline the paint stroke. but what I am looking for is an outline brush like the "Line Brush" in Fire Alpaca.

as you paint,  the brush has a chosen color inside color and a chosen color as an out line. EX: red brush with Black outline.

Is there a way to make this kind of brush? Or find one somewhere? I have searched to no avail. This is one reason I like Fire Alpaca. paint software. but lacks so many things I use in Affinity Photo.

Thank you for reading and I appreciate any helpful suggestions.

FWIW - I don't know if there's a particular reason for using a closed and an open curve as a starting point, but you don't need to merge two curves, (at least for this particular drawing) you could just draw one continuous curve and fill it using winding mode. The fill will follow a line between the start and end nodes, so you just make sure the node where you want the "join" is directly over a line.

@PaulEC:  Thanks for the information and joining the thread all knowledge is welcome.

Just out of curiosity - what reason/advantage should it have?

The image I shared will eventually be a boot the line I want to join will be a line indicating a toe for the boot. As I change the appearance of the boot the toe line would follow the boot out line if it could be joined.
PS . This can be done in Moho 11. Joining lines to do what I have explained here.

    Thanks for inquiring.

  7. Well today I had a project to finish in Affinity Designer 1.8.4 for on my MacBook Pro OSX El Capitan Ver 10.11.6 and got to use it for about ten minutes before the pencil tool caused a crash... Yippee... I guess I won't be making any money using Designer. Please  don't explain this crash away by saying I should update the OS. My computer is too Old to run anything newer than OS 10.11.6. Unless you guys would like to buy me a newer model MacBook Pro.

I don't want to lose money already invested in your app and it is supposed to run on this system. So..

Here is the crash report, sorry if I come off as defensive but it is frustrating.

  8. I never know when it will happen.(when I'll need the pencil tool) and I can't screen shoot the entire work flow of an entire project.

So what you ask is a bit weird to me.  All I can say is that it has happen several times and slows down my workflow as the recovery of the project sometimes misses a few steps that have to be re-done and it also gives me a sense of foreboding about using the pencil tool.

I hope you can find this unstableness.

Please continue to look into it using your ability.

    Thanks

Are you wanting to clip the selected curve layer to the bottom one in the screenshot? If so you aren't clipping the group, you clipping layers within it, just click drag that layer onto the bottom layer. When a small line appears from the thumbnail to the right hand side release.

Are you speaking of masking the bottom layer? Because that is how you mask not clip. I could be wrong but I want to use a clipping to clip paint inside  layer to shade all layers in the group. not mask one layer. Thanks sorry if I'm not being clear.
