TOB reacted to nPoika in Path operation 'Divide' should work with open curves
    Hi there,
The divide path operation should allow you to use open curves so that you can split complex geometry easily. (Though a separate tool specific to this would be fine!). The workaround videos suggesting selecting two points and then breaking the geometry is a terrible work around, and would not allow for curved cutting paths).
If avoidable it also shouldn't explode previously made compound shapes (with nested paths forming holes).
I appreciate there's a wishlist a mile long but this seems fundamental to a tool that is specifically for the composition of advanced geometries.

    Thanks,
    Nathan

This is a known issue that is already with development.

    Hi guys!
I tried the Contour Tool but unfortunately holding down the ALT-Button does not clone the object.

    Good morning everybody,
I am finding another thing that seems to be missing from Designer which I use an awful lot in CorelDRAW and which is kind worrying to me unless maybe I'm missing something. In Corel I have a blend tool. I believe Illustrator has the same thing though I don't use Illustrator. It allows me to create two objects and blend them together. This is particularly useful for creating interesting drop shadows and so on. Is there really no way to do this in Designer? I'm attaching a screenshot to show you what I mean. Corel allows me to choose which aspects of each object interact with one another.
Hopefully there is some way of doing this or it will be added as it seems like a very important tool to me.
Thanks very much and let me know!
    Phil

I'm really hoping Affinity updates to allow true 100% vector brushes to be more editable and relevant in future releases. What are currently labeled "vector brushes" are not 100% vector and cannot be expanded as vectors. They have their uses and I appreciate them - but in my line of work, I need to be able to export 100% vector - no raster in the final output.
Right now we can only modify the 100% vector brush to a simple taper on each end - As I have attached to this post, there are many other types of tapers and such I'd love to be able to do with a 100% vector brush.
Going a little further - I'm hoping for a blob-tool that can allow for any shape to be made and used -

    I'm a Mac user.
I love Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher. Is there any chance of a full-service PDF creator that would create fillable forms, edit PDFs, embed fonts, etc., etc. For me, this what keeps me tied to the subscription model at Adobe and all the products I would rather be using Affinity for. With this hook that Adobe has in my work flow, the value of the three products you offer and that I love is rendered moot.
I have looked into other PDf creators by other companies. The closest replacement for Acrobat would be PDF Element but it is pretty buggy and their support is non-existent. It's not even fully clear what company is really behind the app. It smells of piracy to me. Other apps I have found don't edit or create forms.
I am hoping for salvation from Serif. :)

    Hi @Mark Ingram,
the problem was already solved for me.
But I did some more tests with the latest beta (1.8.1.610) today.
The program starts as expected without further crashes.
    Best regards

    Hi Mark,
    your assumptions are right!
It was, indeed, a Font related problem.
Last weekend I deleted some more fonts from the system folder,
with the result that all three apps started as expected, at least in most cases.
Unfortunately I was a bit too ambitious.
I deleted a bunch of fonts and then I tried to start the app.
Normally I would delete the fonts one by one to isolate the “bad guy”.
Nevertheless, all three apps still crash from time to time.
Even everytime when I activate (via Fontbase Fontmanager)
somewhere around 100 Fonts and above.
I will definitely test the next Beta to support you by identifying the problem.

These are some of the deleted fonts (at least the ones I remember):
    Adobe Asian fonts
Albertus (MT, MT Lt, Extra Bold, Medium) - TT - Monotype
    Baskerville Old Face - OTF-TT - Microsoft
    BodoniPS - TT - Monotype
    Coronet - TT – Monotype
    CoronetPS - TT – Monotype
    Giddyup Std - OTF-PS - Adobe
    Giggi - OTF-TT – Microsoft
Gloucester MT Extra Condensed - OTF-TT – Microsoft
    Haettenschweiler - OTF-TT - Microsoft
    Mistral - OTF-TT – Microsoft
Stempel Garamond Roman - TT – Monotype

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks @TOB, there's nothing in the log file unfortunately. In the next beta we're going to add further logging around font enumeration at startup (that's where we think the problem lies), so it would be great if you could try the next beta version (I don't know when that will be available) and report back to us again? Once again I thank you for your patience while we try to sort this out!

    Hi!
As Mark mentions in this post:

I installed the latest Beta - 1.8.1.595 but the problem still exists.
The app constantly crashes at the start.
I didn´t try the Beta Versions of the other two apps because
I read somewhere that they are all based on the same code.
Here are the crash reports from the beta.
    Thanks for your help,

TOB got a reaction from Mark Ingram in Affinity Photo 1.8 won't run up (split)
    Hi!
As Mark mentioned, it could be a font problem, so I made some screenshots of the installed fonts on my PC. I guess most of them came with some software like the Lexmark printer driver or LibreOffice, … …
After nschalls post I also deleted all fonts I definitely don´t use.
(The red ones in the screenshot) I deleted even more like Asian, Arabic, … Fonts which came with Adobe. Also somewhere around 20 Noto Fonts. (I guess they came with Google Chrome) Unfortunately, not all of the deleted can be seen in the screenshot.
I also used Extensis Suitcase Fusion 6 for my Type1 Fonts.
But for 2-3 years, after a bigger Windows 10 update, it hasn´t worked as expected. So I deinstalled Suitcase Fusion to check if it causes any problems with Affinity.
I also use a second Typemanager www.fontba.se for all the other fonts.
After all those trial an error, the problem still exists. All three Affinity apps crash seconds after I start them. I can´t even open them.
At the start I see the Welcome Screen and the message “Schriften werden geladen…” (reading fonts…) and seconds after this font message disappears, the apps crash.
    Interesting fact:
After I deleted the fonts which are marked red in the screenshot all Affinity apps worked as expected. But after a reboot of the system the problem still occurs and working is not possible.
