You can use the ctrl/cmd+C and ctrl/cmd+V keyboard shortcuts to copy layers or groups between different Affinity documents, regardless of it being Photo or Designer, says Dan. Maybe YOU can, Dan. When I tried ctrl/CMD/C, it brought up the crop tool and placed a fibonacci spiral on the document. Just to make sure it didn't copy anyway, I tried the ctrl/cmd/C in the second document. Nothing happened.

I grouped layers from one AF photo doc, then duplicated the group since the program seems glitchy, then dragged the whole group to another AF doc. When the group got to the second AF doc, a green plus appeared, so I released the drag. I've done this over and over, but instead of moving the layers from the first doc to the second doc, the result is that an unrelated layer in the second doc duplicates itself. Is this a defect in AF, or is the deranged hacker who has wasted hours of my life making the program not work as it was designed to?

Wacom Intuos Pro Medium pen and tablet, model pth-651K. I make greeting cards on Affinity Photo, as I formerly did on on Photoshop cs6 till Mac disabled it with an upgrade. The pics include text and pics that I draw with the Wacom pen. The open file jumps around at random as I'm working on it. There's no one task that triggers it. I've also done photo editing but not lately and don't remember if the files stay put better when they are photo files (I doubt it).

Thank you, Walt and RC-R. No clue how the small caps got checked in mysteriously accessed menu (via "a" or "fi") in a new doc but I'm grateful to learn how to uncheck it. Can you point me towards a help topic that addresses why the canvas jumps unpredictably left, right, up, down, and usually halfway off the screen in any of these directions while I'm working on it? Cannot find a "j" for "jump" on context screen so I can uncheck something that says I would like this to happen.

It did not show up in the folder I saved it to. This is extra disturbing because I used to (????) have a hacker who did senseless destructive things and could never do anything about that so I never know what's going on. What do I do to get capital letters? Affinity will only make capitals that are smaller than the lower-case letters even if there is no "small caps" selection. I've been trying to make a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence ALL DAY!!!!!! Really, why is this so difficult????!!!!!

Please help. No large caps available on Affinity Photo 193. Am using Mac's Catalina 10.15.7. Previous Affinity Photo versions allowed capital letters not just small caps.

The document on the right was supposed to have its own tool panel? Somewhere? (I gave up and just opened the docs separately.) Also, thanks. Do you by any chance come in a clickable, animated, voice-equipped desk icon version? (Please suggest this to developers, if you don't mind.)

I managed to get 2 Affinity Photo docs displayed side by side. But Affinity will not let me use any tools on the doc on the right side. It will let me work on the left side, but I can't, for example, select from the right doc and move the selection to the left doc because the tool just turns into a hand when I go to the right doc. No other tools are available, except for use on the left doc only. Clicking the title of the doc doesn't change this. Sorry if I am not asking this in the right place but I couldn't find where else to ask it. Also searching various permutations of question got zero responses. (Please advise on more efficient ways to find how to do stuff. I wind up doing trial and error for forever without getting anything but errors.) Thanks.

There is no "absolute dimensions" on the crop tool menu bar. There is only unconstrained, original, custom, or resample. None of them allows px to be changed to in (if you change it in one dimension, the change reverts to pixels when you try to change it in the other dimension). The menu has a specifications option ('units') but it's grayed out and doesn't function. Going to the tool gear icon allows you to select a dimension like 4:5, but this makes no difference to any of the above useless non-options. So I give up. How do you specify inches instead of pixels?

To insert Apple emoji in Affinity while using a Mac with an up-to-date OS: Type the emojis in either Pages or a Text doc. You can access the emoji keyboard from the keyboard symbol in your Mac's menu bar--top right. If it's not there, go to Keyboard prefs and put a check next to the option to put it in your menu bar. (Use the text-size thing to make them as big as you'll need because otherwise you'll have to resize in Affinity and it can go blurry.) Capture the emoji using a Screenshot. Access this by holding down Shift Command 5. Click the dashed rectangle in the app menu bar. A big dashed rectangle with handles appears on your screen. Drag the handles to select. When you release the handles you'll hear a click like a camera shutter going off. Go to Affinity. In the Edit menu, select Paste (or just use Control-V) and voila! The emoji appears as a layer in your document. If you don't like remembering keyboard shortcuts, you can put the Screenshot app in your dock. Locate it with Finder and drag its icon onto your dock to the left of the first vertical line in the dock. You can use it to capture anything on the screen, including images that you want to make use of in your Affinity programs. Method is the same as above. If you have an old Mac OS that doesn't yet have the Screenshot app, you can capture emojis or any other image on your screen by holding down Shift-Command-4-Control, at which a crosshairs appears. While you continue to hold down the 4 keys, drag the crosshairs to create a selection rectangle over whatever you want to paste into Affinity. (It's really hard to do this with only 2 hands, but if you happen to be an octopus with fingers on multiple tentacles, it's a piece of cake.)

Since I'm new at Affinity Photo, I've tried for a bit more experience with it before responding. The good news is, I've discovered that accessing the adjustment options from the B&W moon icon at the bottom of the Studio panel allows me to go directly to the manual tools window of a selected adjustment--that is, I do not even see the thumbnails of the presets. This is fine because the bad news is that the thumbnail presets still do not respond to the Wacom pen. I've tried the tapping with the pen many times since you wrote--once this worked for a very few seconds after I opened a document, then stopped working. The rest of the time it did nothing whether a document was newly opened or not. The documents I've tried this on are all "Affinity" documents converted from jpegs or Psd. The thumbnails have continued to respond to the Mac Bluetooth mouse, but since I generally do not even keep the mouse turned on, using it for this sole purpose is not a great option. As mentioned before, I'd removed and upgraded the Wacom's driver hoping it would work better with the Catalina upgrade and it has, but not before I reset all the Wacom preferences to the defaults--this was before the problem emerged with the AP thumbnails so I didn't mention it to you. I'm not including the screen snapshot of the preferences because there's nothing to see, the preferences being the default ones with one exception: Since you mentioned the Wacom Preferences as possibly related to the non responding AP thumbnails, I added both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer to the apps listed in the Wacom Preferences (the default was "All"). I discovered these additions did not help the nonfunctioning thumbnails in any way. Although the presets are useful as indications of how a doc could be changed, I still wonder if it might be a good tradeoff to remove the adjustment presets since they do not work with the Wacom pen and since they may hog memory. DO they hog memory? My iMac is 21.5" late 2013 with 8 GB memory in two 4 GB slots, each DDR3, 1600 MHz (ok status). ECC "disabled." This Mac's memory is upgradable only by a qualified Apple Authorized Service Provider. Of the 8GB of installed memory, the used memory totals over half--4.25 GB. Affinity Photo tops the list of operations that consume the 4.25 GB. AP uses 755 MB of memory, which is way over twice its memory-eating runner-up, which is Affinity Designer. How much of the AP memory consumption is due to its display of thumbnails for adjustment presets that don't work? Is it enough to make it advisable to remove the useless adjustment presets? If so, can that be easily done by a user (me) who is by no means a tech wiz? And if so, how do I do it? And, also, how do I undo it if an Affinity upgrade makes the thumbnails functional and worth using? Thank you for caring how well your product works! Truly.

I posted this on a pre-1.8 thread, since that's where the problem was posted by another user. There the problem was acknowledged as caused by a software glitch. If that's still true, the bug persists in the latest Affinity Photo version--so here's its description again. I have Wacom Intuos pen tablet PTH-651 with newest Wacom driver 6.3.38-3, newest Catalina 10.15.3 Mac OS, and newest Affinity Photo 1.8.1. The adjustment layer presets do not respond at all to my Wacom pen, except one preset that twice turned my document red all over, with no functioning alternatives. The preset thumbnails do respond to my clicking with my Bluetooth mouse, but not to anything I do with the Wacom pen. I bought Affinity after the Catalina upgrade trashed my Photoshop CS6. I removed and then upgraded Wacom's driver so it would play nice with the latest iMac upgrade. That helped. But the threesome of Affinity, Catalina, and Wacom still have the functionality issue described above. Is the malfunction due to unresolved incompatibility between the OS, Wacom, and Affinity software? If so, will Affinity resolve it, maybe in tandem with Wacom designers? Apple upgrades may have caused the glitches experienced by Wacom and Affinity, but Apple seems only to shrug off the messes it makes of nonproprietary apps, shifting the burden of functionality onto the app designers. If I'm experiencing the result of a software bug, I look forward to Affinity and/or Wacom upgrades that make everything work as intended. If what I'm encountering user error, please advise how to correct it. Thank you for your help!

THANK you, EVERYONE!!!! Both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer installed glitchlessly once I followed your directions and installed them correctly! It's good to know that this is "a common way of installing self-contained Mac apps into the Applications folder" though I don't know how long I will know it since I don't anticipate doing this often in the future, if at all. I understand that since you have users from all over the globe, it makes sense to use graphics rather than words to depict installation procedures. Not everyone speaks the same verbal language. But though your pictorial language may be instantly apprehensible by you, not everyone speaks that language either. You know what your pictorial instructions mean because it evokes, for you, "a common way of installing self-contained Mac apps into the Applications folder." But to people unfamiliar with this procedure, the pictorial instructions may be a foreign language, as it was to me. Thank you for the excellent and in my case indispensable translations!

I got Affinity Designer and Photo software on a Black Friday sale after an iMac update unexpectedly and irreversibly disabled my Photoshop CS6. I delayed installing the Affinity software, but tried to do that tonight. The install doesn't seem to have worked correctly. I clicked on the downloaded Designer file, which was located in the DOWNLOADS folder of FINDER. This brought up a graphic showing the Affinity Designer icon with a curved arrow pointing towards an icon of the APPLICATIONS folder. I clicked and poked all over this graphic and at last the program opened and appeared in the dock, but the program did not show up in the APPLICATIONS folder of FINDER. The graphic with the arrow pointing to the APPLICATIONS folder remained open on FINDER with no apparent usefulness. When I force-quit the program and relaunched FINDER, the application disappeared from the dock. A similar graphic appeared when I opened the Photo software, which would open only after I right-clicked and chose "open." The second program appeared in the dock but like the first program it did not appear in the APPLICATIONS folder of FINDER. When I searched FINDER for the missing programs, they BOTH appeared in the dock and ALSO materialized in a FINDER list called LOCATIONS, along with only one other listed item--the iMac itself. Clicking on either program in the LOCATIONS list brings up the useless graphic with the arrows pointing to the APPLICATIONS folder. Clicking on the Photo program in the dock opens nothing. Clicking on the Designer program opens Designer but there's no way to close it. Bringing up the Force Quit list shows both programs are open even though the Photo program is not anywhere to be seen. Selecting both programs for Force Quit removes them from the dock. The Affinity programs are still not in the APPLICATIONS folder. I have iMac Catalina 10.15.3 and cannot go back to an earlier version. I have Affinity bundles I bought to go with these programs--fonts and brushes--but am concerned they will not install correctly since iMac does not seem to recognize the Affinity programs as applications--it does not list them in the applications folder and is unable to open and/or close them. Please advise. Thank you for your help.
