What do you mean by "2D string" and "a repeat logo" ?
For instance you can let vector text follow a path or use a pixel image to create a Vector Image Brush that also follows a path.

So, I am trying to arrange copies of an object evenly in a circular pattern, and I thought "wouldn't it be a huge time saver if there was a button you could click to do this," but then I figured why stop there?  I realized how Affinity has a huge selection of custom shapes and it would be neat if we could use these to distribute objects evenly as well.  As I see it, it would work like the "spacing" button under the "align" button where you would drag a slider and the number of evenly spaced objects would increase.

If you get the yellow triangle that should indicate that you're trying to change that shortcut, and you're trying to use something else that is already assigned. 
Have you tried just deleting that shortcut, by clicking on the x button?

Personally, I have no problem with dots to indicate Activity and Visibility, I would just suggest using solid and hollow dots to indicate ON and OFF status, not brightness of dots.

Solid/hollow dot is a visually understandable and unambiguous, and also saves space in the Layers panel (thanks for that).

I've noticed that affinity photo is slowing down a lot, and I've downloaded lots of fonts from google and I want to remove the ones I no longer use, but I can't. I can't find any information on this at all and simply deleting the file doesn't do anything. Can anyone help me please? 

The steps I took were: 
Use selection brush tool to select only the grey material, you could further refine this to remove the metal studs from the selection.  Create a new pixel layer Use colour picker to select darker grey shade from chair.  Use paint brush to tool to paint over whole of selection area. I used a basic brush with hardness, opacity and flow set to 100% Set blend mode of pixel layer to 'Darker Colour'  Adjust Layer opacity to desired effect. I set the opacity to 30% in the example, but you can go as far as 50% before it becomes too obvious.  I would also add a Brightness adjustment after this, but again this is personal preference.

I'm running into a similar problem, except that none of the applications open, even after resetting account data. This seems to have happened after updating to 1.10.
The splash screen appears, then disappears, then nothing. There are no events in the system logs and no error messages anywhere that I can find. I may reinstall an older version to see if anything changes.

Unfortunately as you've mentioned this isn't a supported feature in Affinity currently, though it has been discussed by our developers previously in the below thread -

This is a strange one, I have been trying to understand why this is happening? With me it is very random and when the picture is reloaded the problem goes away, are you also finding this? I also have a feeling it has to do with the amount of time the application is open along with multiple files open, so I wonder if it is some kind of memory leak.

While @Old Bruce is otherwise occupied: you just need to rotate or skew the rectangle so that its top and bottom edges are sloping.

Duplicate the text, offset it and then mask the layers.

Should the text be editable? I doubt this will work even in Illustrator.
I tried it, because I was curious and you can do this even in AD. Of course there will be better ways, but I am no AD expert at all.
1) Convert the text to curves and ungroup it.
2) Draw and rotate a rectangle with no stroke and fill colour of the text, where the split has to be.
3) Expand stroke of the rectangle.
4) Select all layers and use Divide on it.
5) Tidy up the produced layers.

Here you can delete the fonts (maybe some can only be removed as administrator). Close the application and restart. Now the fonts should be not available anymore.
