  1. For the next upgrade there should be a feature upgrade in the Affinity publisher preflight feature. Specifically turn off the spell check and just see any other potential problems. This would be helpfui if your original text has a great many proper names, location names and technical terms that are not found in the standard dictionary Affinity Publisher uses but have have already been checked by editors and copy editors prior to importing the text into Affinity Publisher. Otherwise you have to scroll through all the spelling to find potential problems thanks RR
  2. I never did get a reply to my private message. However, since your last issue I saw the advice you gave on the new text wrap issue and grouping. Unlike the user in the Text Wrap Issue thread who apparently created the photo caption text box first and then tried to surround it with a bigger text box. I am creating the main text box first and then added the second caption text box later Creating a new text frame outside the old one is very awkward (which is why there should be a dedicated caption option in future release) but finally I got it to work--somewhat. But when I tried to add the caption, whether by typing or copy and paste. the result is backwards as you see from the attached screen grab. Could be a settings problem but not sure what
  3. Proper captioning should be a priority. Even if photos are pinned to a paragraph it doesn't really help. If you're making corrections and updates, then you keep losing alignment of the photos and captions. The current beta of Scribus has a more powerful pin called "weld" which was helpful but not a complete solution to joining images with captions. I switched to Affinity because of other limitations in Scribus. There should be a choice of using IPTC data or writing your own caption (captions are often bulk added to photos and have to be rewritten for publication) thanks
  4. Thanks. The dictionary is in the right folder. Unfortunately, there is a major problem....likely this is not the fault of Affinity. The Canadian dictionary says every word in the file is misspelled. So I switched to the UK dictionary and that is working as normal....only misspelled words and names etc are flagged RR
  5. Still not working. I downloaded the .dic file from github. It doesn't appear in the character drop down menu When I then tried to point Affinity to the Program Data....Dictionaries folder where en_CA.dic file is you get the message "No Items march your search." The dic file looks right at 9.39 mb The aff file is a file that is just 103 KB . RR
  6. I have been following the threads on the preflight dictionaries. Preflight is asking me for a Canadian English dictionary. Not sure how but perhaps Affinity knows from my online location or the registration. So I have been trying to find a compatible Canadian English dictionary., So the previous advice on the Forum is that there has to be a .dic file. So you recommend using Open Office, Libre Office or Hunspell The Open Office dictionary has the suffix .ext (and compiles US, UK, Canadian and other dictionaries.) I already have Open Office on my computer and copied the dictionary with that wrong extension over to Affinity as recommended. It wasn't recognized. The Libre Office dictionary has an .oxt suffix. the Hunspell dictionary has an .sox suffix. So where do I get a compatible Canadian English dictionary? thanks Robin
  7. I uploaded the Affinity and PDF files for Dwright a couple of days ago when that helped me solve an earlier problem. If you still have those files available, you will see I do use text box captions for the larger images but the problem is the intext captions. Our files are now out with beta readers who are noticing problems that our copy editor missed so things are still changing. Thanks RR
  8. I tried that but the original text box then disappears. I am working with photographs that I have to reposition frequently as design progresses and want to be able to pin the captions separately in their own text box rather than pinning directly to the relevant paragraph as the rest of the text may be changed. When I worked with a previous project using Scribus that is how I did it.
  9. Is there any way to create a text box within a text box? I was able to do that in Scribus before I switched to Affinity Publisher but if I try to do that nothing happens. Or is there a work around I am not aware of? thanks RR
  10. The PDF is in dropbox already for my collaborators. Send me an email and I will share it
  11. Thanks but unclicking facing pages didn't work in this case. Again probably because it is a PDF import. 1. It merged the facing pages 2. It crashed Affinity publisher (twice) RR
  12. I have been working with a file that was an imported PDF. Affinity publisher is displaying the pages in pairs (either in landscape or portrait), probably due to the import. This doesn't appear (at this point) to be a problem for a printer but I will have to reconfirm before the file is finalized. However, in trying to export to PDF and then import into Kindle software, the pages are still doubled up and so the display in Kindle (given the limitations of PDF import) do not display well--that is not as individual pages as in ebooks but as those double pages. For exporting Affinity Publisher does recognize separate pages. So is there any way in Affinity publisher to split up the double pages? Or would I have to export individual pages and then reassemble them? (Realizing that affinity is aimed mostly at print publication but given the state of the book market today some form of export to HTML and EPub would certainly help in the future. thanks RR
  13. My current project has color-coded headers with the page number and section name. However, I can't get them to be consistent. As you can see from the attached file of the master page On the left side, the setting is flush left and I added extra spaces to add space between the end of the header and the page number. No problem. On the right side, however, which is flush right, adding extra spaces doesn't work, it extends the page number beyond the text box rather pushing the page number symbol backward as it did with left. I have also tried using backspace to move it backward but that also doesn't seem to work. Solution please RR
