Problem with Clone Brush Tool on Mac

Clone brush worked at first, then consistently not at all. (Affinity Photo 1.6.7 on iMac OS 10.15.5). Affinity Photo 1.6.7; clone brush works on a laptop MacOS 10.13.6. If the operating system is the problem, do I have to buy a new version of Affinity, or is an upgrade available? Or, is it a bug in the program?
