Wow. Lots of great information. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I'll play around with these suggestions and ideas but i may go the simpler route of making the letters embossed with a rust style so they look like raised metal. Thanks for all the ideas and info.

Styles! Aha. The workbook has only a single mention of the Styles Panel so I missed that. I guess Styles do what Photoshop Patterns do. This is helpful. Thanks very much.

I love what you did with the rust effect! That's going to be very helpful. Also, the offset to create the dip in the lines is a thoughtful tweak. But your image still looks EMbossed to me more than DEbossed. Thanks very much.

Thanks for these suggestions. I'm a former Photoshop user and I used to know how to do these kinds of things in that app. But it's been several years and I just recently started working with Affinity apps. Photoshop has Pattern feature that would do what I want but I don't see anythign like that in Aff. Photo. I'll try both of the methods suggested above. I enjoy tinkering and experimenting and these suggestions helpful.

In the attached image I would like to make the embossed lettering match the look and feel of the rusted metal hinge. Any ideas on how to achieve this?

I've been trying to use the Emboss Effect to create a Deboss effect without success. In the attached picture, I'd like to create the effect of the letters being carved into the wood. I've searched the book and the online tutorials but haven't found any help. Any ideas how to get this effect?
