Absolute legends, thank you all! Some really good techniques I’ll be adding to my toolkit here.
    Appreciated, guys.

Before you start animating, might I suggest that the design is altered ever so slightly to avoid cutting the ‘legs/tentacles’ at the ends (where the red circles are in my attached image)? This might make the overall effect more pleasing, but it could just be my personal preference.

multiple themes, starting with just cute little blinking eyes opening
    - turn into a jellyfish and undulate away, bobbing slightly as if floating
    - unfold wings making it clear that some of the arcs are on wings, and fly off.
    - dance off with plinking music, like a cute centipede, with all the bottoms of arcs working as legs
I loved the recurring story arc in the old BC comic Clams got legs and it's at the back of my mind constantly as I think of these animations.

    That was a fun one.
Yes it is possible and not actually difficult, but not obvious
Select one of your background oval shapes Choose Layer - Convert to Curves Use the Node tool (little arrowhead, shortcut A) to click on the intersection points where your selected oval crosses over and you want to cut it Click to add a node there Select the added node Choose Action - Break Curve on the toolbar - see help Repeat at the other side of the intersection - now your curve is all still there but has been cut into two pieces Select the bit of the curve you want to delete and just hit delete.

As always you give me ideas Garry. What about making the gradient a symbol so that it can be changed en masse and make the symbol a child of each fingerprint curve.

The nature of a gradient is to be a mass of variable colour, all a rectangle or any shape does is contain it much like these curves all they do is mask the gradient to the fill area., You could just use the fill tool to fill each fingerprint curve with a gradient but it's no different to having a gradient in a rectangle, in fact a rectangle will make it easier to position a gradient in sync with every other gradient fill.
If you want to just fill each curve with this gradient and do away with the rectangles containing the gradient, first select the rectangle and go to the Styles panel and make a style from it by clicking on the burger bar menu icon and clicking on Style from selection, now you can delete the rectangle, now select all of the fingerprint curves and apply that style.

It might be an idea to find a good animation app and export a bare bones SVG and add whatever colour scheme you want in the animation app.

This is as far as I’ve got after a bit of experimentation – attached file and GIF.
Just have to try and figure out a way to split the curves while keeping the gradient applied.

The method shown by firstdefence above is a good one but it requires a lot of editing and you are then quite limited if you want to adjust the curves later on.
Another method – see attached file, image and video – gives you the same result but leaves you in a position where each part of the design can still be easily modified.
The technique relies on using the Erase Blend Mode on filled duplicate shapes.
I haven’t checked what happens when this sort of thing is exported so it’s probably best to do some testing before you use it for production work.

    Hey guys,
I'm not quite sure how to achieve this. I'd like an objects fill to be transparent, but remove all the intersecting paths/lines behind where the fill of the front objects would otherwise cover up. You can see below (attached image), the desired outcome is on the left, but when I make the fill transparent, you get the result on the right. This is probably simple but I can't think of the right tool or technique to use. So I'd like to keep the strokes shown on the left but have the fill transparent without any strokes behind appearing.

    Any help is much appreciated!
