As far as I know you cannot have a global color unless you have a document palette. Although, I see from the Help on Global Colors that Affinity will automatically create a document palette for you if you create a global color when a document palette does not exist.

So, look for a palette you don't recognize. If I had to guess it will probably be named "Unnamed", by default.

    You are right Walt!  Thanks!

  2. Hi,

I do not want the color to just be used for the pen tool.  I went to the swatches tab, clicked on the little menu on the top-right and selected Add Global Color. Now I cannot find it.  The palette choices all seem inappropriate (Add Application Palette, Add Document Palette, Rename Palette, Delete Palette, Set as Default For, Create Palette from Document, Create Palette from Image, Import Palette, Export Palette,...).

I followed the instructions from https://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-create-a-stylish-magazine-layout-in-affinity-publisher--cms-31847

The person simply creates a Global Color (step 6) does not use a palette and simply selects the color from the character tab but I do not see mine there unless it is a recently used color.  I thought it would be visible somewhere with a little folded corner on it as I read in a Google post I found (but the author does not say where it lives).

    Thanks,

  3. Hi!

Thank you both for your help!

Good points and Wosven thank you for that diagram!

The printer sent me what she needs for a PDF document, including bleed and margins,  but I need to look it over and see if I can relate it to what AP can do in document setup.

I do not understand how these examples I follow, whether from Affinity-Sefif, or on YouTube, automatically adjust the page setup to an older version and how the page set-up has changed so much that makes it so hard for me to learn.

  4. Hi!

The only tri-fold example in the welcome screen leaves a lot left out, as are the YouTube videos that I have watched.

They ALL are using an older version than myself (1.83).

For instance, that sample and the videos I have seen do NOT use the same Document Setup that I have!

There is not a New Document setup in those that has the new interface about selecting A5 and the *actual size* size of the document, ...!  NONE that match the version that I have!!

It is very confusing to a newbie like myself.  Sure  I can pick the sample document apart but it does not tell me how to set up a new document that matches the example that Affinity supplies or the YouTube videos that I have studied.

I just want to make a tri-fold brochure for a friend.  The specs from the printer told me this:

    page is 8.5x11inches
    margins=.25 inches
Margins between columns = .5 inches
Bleed= .125 inches if you have a bleed, the red line indicates the bleed

I have the only workbooks from Affinity: Photo and Designer.

Why is there not a one for Publisher?  Is it too easy to not have one??

I have spent countless hours watching and studying the videos for Publisher on their website, and also Photo and Designer, and especially others concentrated on Publisher.

  5. Hi,

SquareSpace.com - lots of artsy stuff there

    Wix.com

    Weebley.com

The above are drag and drop.

    Flikr

FotoMotocom (click the Designers tab).  Designs and Illustrations can be sold through them

Those are the ones that I know about, but I have not tried any.

For some reason (s), I have stayed away from WordPress even though it is available through BlueHost (where my website is hosted) and GoDaddy (where a couple clients sites are hosted).  I use Adobe Dreamweaver CC and extensions that I have purchased.  DW CC is a monthly subscription.

I am not sure if Adobe Creative Cloud is a paid subscription, but their Portfolio product is free (https://portfolio.adobe.com/).  This looks very easy to use and may be perfect for what your daughter needs to do.

See the screen grab Fig.1 below, set the layers to look like they do in the screen grab, the erase brush layer is actually your relighting layer and as you can see in the screen grab I've set it to blend mode: overlay and opacity to 35%. This gives you approx the effect you should have. You need to neaten the Erase brush layer up to follow the path better so it doesn't show those overlapped edges.

Set a Basic Erase brush up like this in Fig.2 and tidy the erase brush layer to look more like Fig.3

Fig.3 I've changed the blend mode and opacity to show you how it should look, just change it back to Overlay and 35% opacity after you have done tidying it up. It should now look more like Fig.4

    Hi,

How do I get from fig 3 to fig4 (not have the erase brush effect show)?

Because if I export it to jpg, the path is highlighted like it is in your figure 3.

In a previous reply, I said it exported correctly but I did not use the erase brush on the sides of the path and probably did not do the "Brushing over the stone path to brighten it." step correctly.

    Thanks

I did the tutorial again (https://affinityspotlight.com/article/jump-into-affinity-photo/?utm_source=SpotlightEmail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter) but this time I did not erase the sides of the path because I did not have to (I was more careful when highlighting the path) and it looks like the export to .jpg is the same as the .awphoto file.

I saved the image after each step so I may go back and mess up the path touchup so I have to erase the overflow onto the grass and see if that change shows up on the export.

    Thanks you.

    No luck.

Retail (1.7) says it's an unsupported file type. Beta (1.8) says it can't be parsed.

I'm not sure if that means it uploaded incorrectly, or if it means it is corrupted. If it still opens in your copy of Photo (or if you still have it open in Photo) try File > Save As under a different name, and upload that. Also, if you have an account with DropBox or any other file sharing site, you could upload there and generate a sharing link to give to us. Sometimes that's the only way to move such large files around successfully.

Sorry this is being such a problem.  Thank you for hanging in there Walt!

I cannot open your file, either with the retail or beta version of Affinity Photo. The error is 'filetype is not supported.' Are you sure you uploaded an actual .afphoto file & not something else with just a renamed extension?

ACDSee Photo Editor somehow took over the association of the Affinity Photo .afphoto file.  I changed Win10 to associate it with Affinity Photo.  But I was able to open it with Affinity Photo regardless

Let's see if this works now.

Can you attach the finished APhoto file, because that should not be happening

Okay, attached is the .afphoto file

    Thank you.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, Paul.

    What tutorial did you follow?

  11. Hi,

I just completed the Photo tutorial.  When exporting the file to jpeg, the relighting, erase brush, HSL adjustment, curves adjustment etc... all show in the  jpeg.  I can see the erase brush and relighting (?) after touching up the stone path in the jpeg file.

There are no instructions in the tutorial, search engines, help file, etc.. to not have them display in the exported file.

I have attached the jpg file.
